Yes i have ARMA II, was a release day buy...what a mistake, feels like it was cobbled together, seriously the bugs in this game, how the f**K did playtesters miss them!

You made the mistake of trying to play the single player game. Thats broke and will probably never be fixed. Online is where Arma II shines. There's been 4 patches since release day and lots of issues have been addressed. Doubt OPF2 will get 4 patches

Flashpoint is ten times better, without a doubt.

Depends on what its trying to be. They promised us a mil-sim, but its not, its a slow moving FPS. They promised us free-roam, but its got a stupid checkpoint system. They promised us 40Km view distance, but it looks like a 5 year old game. They promised us realism from the guns, but they feel crap and have no bullet drop.
Have You ever seen anything with as much realism as this?

and this one I made myself

OPF2 might be an ok game, but its certainly not the sequel to Operation Flashpoint.

I don't know about you, but generally the less patches required, the better. You say that you doubt there'll be 4 patches for OPF2, whereas I hope they don't need that many! It's perfectly playable as is, unlike ARMA when it was released.

There is free roaming. If you're playing ARMA, you should be well able for the Hardcore mode - no HUD, no checkpoints, no respawns.

I think it looks pretty damn good. What 5 year old game looks as good??
They promised us realism from the guns, but they feel crap and have no bullet drop.
It's all really a matter of opinion on how they "feel", but I think that the guns are fine. The sounds are great, and there is bullet drop. What game are you playing?

its certainly not the sequel to Operation Flashpoint.
It certainly is not. Codemasters are simply rehasing the franchise name, but then neither was ARMA I or II a worthy sequel to OpFlash. They were the buggiest pieces of sh*t to grace the mil-sim genre. They made the original release of Operation Flashpoint look like a flawless pearl.

Pretty disappointed by this game tbh. It's clearly been dumbed down for consoles. They should have just called it Operation of Duty 4 and been done with it. Having said that I'm quite enjoying the game for what it is. Haven't tried mp yet but I can't say I'm expecting much - though co-op sounds like it might be good.

It's graphically worse than it appeared to be in previews too. Draw distance is not great and the whole look is cartoony like the unreal engine. Doesn't feel like the real world at all. Weapon choice is very poor and the feel of them is not great. Plus the only one shot kills seem to be headshots. AI is pretty retarded.

For all its flaws, Arma2 is still vastly superior as a military simulator and a game (it's buggy single player campaign excepted perhaps). This is just a console arcade fps disguised as a tactical shooter. A real shame.

All the utterly amazing moments I've witnessed in Arma simply couldn't occur in this.

Myself and Pog playing it today but his mammy called him for his dinner tho :D

Game in a bit ? Decent coop game, but level 3? where you defend the village is stupidly short. For such a massive game the levels are very short.

Operation Flashpoint is on version 1.96, Big failure then so

This game can't be played free roam, its the way its written. You have to proceed to the next checkpoint to trigger the next event. Hardcore doesn't work for this reason, loads of complaints about it

    FarCry

This btw is the side of a hill with the game absolutely maxed, lovely textures

Sure. Had to replace my C drive a little while back, so I'll have to get mumble etc sorted.

You're right about the level size and as Pog said earlier, the supposed free-roam gameplay is a sham. Sure the island is there and you can wander off if you want but enjoy your walk because there's no other point in doing so. It's too tightly scripted.

I am enjoying it, im not really sure what im doing just yet :D did the first mission and i dont think i shot one person. There is a lot to get to grips with with the squad tactics etc for a console game they havent tried to dumb it down which i like. Graphically it does remind me of Far cry 2 i was expecting better from all the pics and videos i had seen but its far from bad. I need a bit more time to get to grips with it but the poor reviews are really unfair. It is more or less what i expected.

This is for me what ruins OF2 as a mil sim.

In Arma you can approach an objective from any direction. Scope it out. Plan your attack. Set up your squad in firing positions, assign targets. Then when you're ready, tell the open up. All hell breaks loose and it's just awesome.

If it were OF2, by the time you get your binoculars out, you're told the tanks are already moving and you need to kill the AT. You just have to dive in and attack. The game won't let you plan. It keeps pushing you. Why can't they just let me control the pace?

EXACTLY! Maximillian you hit the nail on the head i have just played through the first level down to the lighthouse and i couldn't quite put my finger on what was bothering me.Apart from the fact that the graphics are the worst i've seen on the ps3,(since when is the ocean grey?) there are hundreds of flickering dots of light in the distance,I turned around to check that my squad were in the formation i had set and the three feckers were 'running' behind me with no feckin legs, for fecks sake i've never seen anything like it on my beloved playstation. But of course I've been keeping up to date on this title and those things were somewhat expected if not particularly welcome. Oh and just one more thing before i get back to Max's point I can't see the bloody enemy, now i know that in 'real' life i probably wouldn't see the enemy either until it was too late, but even when i can see them i still can't really see them.At least with, and i'm really going out on a limb here,Far cry 2,and believe me i'm not a fan of that game, when i was in a fire fight i could make who and were i was shooting at.Anyway back to what Max said about not being able to set up an assault, that to me is the biggest problem so far,and i assume it's not going to get better the AI feels so forced and problematic It's already wrecking my head. Why cant i target specific targets and have my fire team take them down in one fluid moment of perfection.I mean for god's sake even Rainbow six vegas had this mechanic down.Instead i have to worry about what dumbsh#t Miller is doing behind me and if he is in cover (he usually isn't)
I had such high hopes for this title and i dont want to just write it off after 1 level and am not going to.So now all i have to do is keep me bird happy and watch the X factor with her and then i'll be back downstairs to save the world and try and keep Miller alive.Still interested in co-op mode if anyone else is interested PSN is weiland79.

I've given up on this one..on the offical Forum there are 37 pages of Bugs reported !!! I had finished misson 3 on hardcore when I played it again today I was back at the start of level two...the save game system is broken.
IMO this game is about another 6 months from being finished.

I'm so glad I didn't buy this. Long live Arma.

I can wait till my RMA'd graphics card is replaced and sent back to me so I can play ARMA II again. I suppose it would be interesting to see OFP2 on "full wack" and running smoothly but bleh to that.

You cant spawn 3000 Ai vs 3000 AI , game quits to desktop.

I had money on USMC winning that one :D

Whats it like compared to arma/arma2/oppflash point 1?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,874 ✭✭✭✭PogMoThoin

You liked Arma, therefore You'll hate this. The general consensus is that only some console gamers like it, pc gamers hate it, another shoddy console port. The Single player is only 5-6hours long and the multiplayer is completely broke and consolised, no joining an already running game and no dedicated servers. The graphics are very poor.
Big thread in the tactical shooter forum bout it, flick through the last few pages

Well I'm really enjoying it. Its a nice change of pace from the Call of Duty mayhem.
I'm new to the tactical shooter genre so OF-DR is a great gateway drug. I'm considering getting ARMA 2 once I've had my fill with this.

I dunno man, I get Arma II, and I couldn't play it. Gave up after a few attempts. It was a horrible experience. Although from what I'm reading here, maybe I'll give it another shot in multiplayer. I only tried the single player.

From what Pog and Max are saying, the SP in ARMA is broken, so why rag on OPF2's SP? Wait for 4 patches and then see if the MP's playable ;)

anyone on xbox able to play online??

Ive played and cleared the SP campaign in ArmA II when there was no patches.

Its still pretty useful as a refresher to the OPFLASH/ARMA genre and to get your fingers falling onto the correct keys as the whole keyboard is in play. There has been a few patches now and I've watched what they have corrected and it seems like they have fixed the critical bugs in the campaign. Theres no resorting to shooting your own team-mates and then healing them to get them to move anymore.

But yeah, to re-iterate, MP is excellent in ArmA II. In veteran mode, achieving anything feels hard earned.

    Anybody playing this?

I thought there'd be more chat about it to be honest.

There are plenty of bugs in the game and the graphics ain't groundbreaking but it's still a lot of fun. And pretty intense. You do actually dive for cover when the bullets start pinging around you and spend most of the time crawling through the undergrowth.

A lot of people are saying MW2 will wipe the floor with it but it's not really fair to compare the two. It's a completely different experience. Running and gunning is the last thing you want to do with this game.

ARMA's SP was buggy. OF2's SP is designed badly. That's the problem.
