    Great news. :(

I can't even find out where the company is based they don't say on their website but it's more than likely not Irish so maybe they won't suffer the delay with the Irish stock.

There's no promises anywhere on delivery.

I've had loads of trouble with CD WOW in the past (Waited over 3 weeks for CoD4:MW back in the day) and dont think they have improved since. The main problem is they ship from Hong Kong.
Zavvi/The Hut have it at a good price and you will have it in no time.

I'm stuck using sites that can accept Irish laser. No credit card.

Iv played it on the PC, love it, Firts mission and half the second one,

Much slower than COD obviously, but that is the point, and i like it that way

Co op should be good, aint had a chance to try that yet

Is it silky smooth using your rig? I've only got a 8800GTS so I hope its at least playable.

Ya its running perfect on 1920 x 1080, id expect it to in fairness.. put a good few €€ into this rig so no jitters are allowed!!

Exactly. There are going to be literally thousands of people who will pick this up and think it's utter sh1te, simply because there is genuine brains needed to play and be successful at the thing.

Even the mixed reviews were of no surprise to me.......some loved it, some didn't.

The Original OFP was incredible, and that only averaged in the mid 80's in terms of reviews iirc. It's a bit like marmite as someone else touched on, you'll probably either fall in love with it, or you'll want to beat it with a stick.

I was expecting a lot more out of this tbh, it feels more like a tactical Call of Duty than anything else....that is all, nothing more.

I was a fan of the original OF and after playing ArmA II for a few months, I am more than a little underwhelmed when playing this.

Your location says Carlow. How do you have this game ? I can't wait to play it. Has it been released early ?

As above. How do you have this game ? I loved the original OPF. Played the crap outta it. ArmA II is a bug ridden mess. Helicopters landing in trees and exploding, landing on squadmates, mission points not triggering I could go on and on. Call of Duty MW has it place for run and gun fun but I'm hoping OFP:DR is a bit inbetween leaning more towards OFP

    I got the demo. ;)

    First thoughts
Gameplay is very good, enemies are tough and not killed in a single shot. Its what I was expecting, its too early to call though, not played enough yet. Not really impressed with the graphics at all, its just all a dull shade of orangey brown and looks shíte IMO. Very hard to pick out an enemy in the trees, harder than Arma II. Squad controls are clunky and very consolised. I'll report back later when I've played a little more. Here's a few screenies of the game completely maxed with 2xAA

The bland and mono toned graphics put me to sleep.
My team mates have big chunky angry faces.
    The movement feels off.
No mouse dead zone like classic OFP.
No similarities to OFP at all.
    The enemy are dumb.
The weapons feel off, no recoil.

It just feels like a bog standard shooter in a big open environment.

It actually makes me want to give Arma II another chance.

Ok, after a little play of this game my thoughts are that this is just ok. Its an ok shooter, its just not as amazing as the trailers led us to believe.
I've got some major gripes with it:
    * Graphics are shíte for a pc game, I was expecting something glorious with it using the GRiD engine, but they're just bland. Looks better without AA as it turns everything a greyish tinge. Textures sometimes look dreadful, worse than the first Operation Flashpoint. Arma has better textures, effects, environment etc
    * Enemy Ai is totally predictable and run out of cover. It seems like the enemies can only be active when the player gets near them. In theory, this could work well to save system resources, but it makes sniping too easy as the enemies won't react to bullets. Pathetic
    * Giving commands is totally annoying with kb & mouse, its aimed at consoles but the stupidest thing is that after giving a command the menu doesn't close itself and You always end up proceeding with play and pressing "w", therefore cancelling that command and ordering them to move instead, fúcking retarded.
    * Ordering Your teamates to move in vehicle makes them move to the point in an exact straight line, not to follow the nearby road like in Arma.
    * No realism to the weapons, maybe I'm just playing Arma too much. No bullet drop either
    * The map totally lacks any detail, trees and cover arent mapped and the detail is shíte, see for yerselves, zooming in doesn't give any more detail.

I played it there for a couple hours, Quite enjoyable. But does have its drawbacks. I just played the first mission a few times over

    - Command system was definitely designed for consoles. In order to issue a command you have to stop, select the command, execute, then move again. Quite irritating, Especially during a fire fight.

-While I will always class the original OFP as a 'Military simulator', im not sure about this, it seems like a fairly linear FPS so far. But you wont get away with being rambo. You do need your team mates and they are quite effective when they want to be. One review did talk about the enemy getting lucky shots on you (headshots etc) and I think he was quite right. Its hard to explain but there does seem to be an element of required luck I haven't experienced in other games.

-graphics aren't as good as id hoped, but my gfx card is an 8800gts, so no surprise I guess.

    - Checkpoint system gets a thumbs down from me. As you can see from PogMoThoin's screenshots theres a little yellow symbol telling you where to go, In fact it almost tells what path to take, On Normal mode they turn up every 100-200m meaning you are following a path the game tells, there wasnt any "Hmm what about this way?", though theres nothing to stop you trying a diff approach.

-I havent really been able to form a final opinion on the AI (obviously), but its not bad. They will take cover when being fired at, use suppresive fire when moving, run like muthaf**s when artillery is raining down, (see screenshots). But they didnt seem to work together much, from what I could tell they were quite independent.

-Weapons dont seem too enjoyable, in fact im still having difficulty trying to figure out how to switch weapons properly and have yet to be able to change firing modes, a tad confusing.

-One thing that really pissed me off was disappearing bodies, I hope its just set that way because of my poor gfx card. When I finished assaulting the village I had no ammo left (Ammo is easily used up and I can imagine a lot of missions will require foraging weapons, just like the original). I thought id run down and loot corpses but they had gone and I had great difficulty trying to finish the mission.

Im looking forward to trying Hardcore mode as I think its really the only way to go with this game.

Didn't have a NES to play Conflict, but Conflict Desert Storm & Global Storm were a pc games, this isn't, with its consolsed controls and lack of "q" and "e" lean. Its a good vast open slow moving Fps, just not as great as they led us to believe and certainly not a mil-sim or even worthy of the OF title. I don't know how they made their trailers, the graphics on pc certainly don't look as vivid as that

I'll probably play through it once on 4 player coop in hardcore mode but after borrowing the demo I'm glad I didn't buy it. The only 2 things going for this game are that it runs very well and that its hard, very hard

Its a bit crap tbh, will try it online.

runs well on PC everything up on high and a steady 50fps

Just launched the game there to tryout the MP, seems its much worse for us pc gamers than I first thought. Here's what I've learned after a google:

    * Limited to 3 modes - Co-op (up to 4), Annihilation (deathmatch limited to 16v16), and Infiltration (16v16, one team holds a defensive position, and the other must take over)
    * No dedicated server and/or server browser; purely peer-to-peer console shíte ala Xbox Live.
    * No support for joining multiplayer game in progress.

You combine all of this together with a rather short 11-mission single-player campaign (only 6 hours of gameplay) and it's really disappointing. Another crappy console port, this years FarCry 2. It even prompts You to press enter to start the game at the title screen, this is needed on consoles as its not installed, but why do we need it on pc, WTF? Obviously ported without any work or thought. The only plus for us pc gamers is that it includes the mission editor.

PC Zone UK - 90% and Classic Award

    Have they gone insane?

For a console it's ok compared to the any other mil-sim on console (very few)

But for a PC magazine to give it 90% is nonsense.

More like a urine'd down version of ARMA II :pac:

If there is one good aspect to OPDR, is that it has re-enthused me to install ARMA II again.

Rubbish! The one good aspect is that it got me to install the original Flashpoint. :D

Mine arrived today and I really have to say it's pants so far. Well, maybe that's a bit harsh. Technically it's not a bad game, but it's just not a sequel. It's like they got Modern Warfare with bigger maps and less excitment.

And why the hell can't the radial command menu turn off after I choose an option? Having to keep on pressing Q is getting on my tits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭Soby

Any console owners played it yet?.You's have me doubting whether to buy this or not now
