Man, that album is a joke. Dont know what all the fuss was about in the first place when this was the result. They should pack it in before they destroy their legacy any further.

On that note cant wait to see Megadeth next Feb.

Thats an "I lulz" moment if i ever i saw one! Cos all of Megadeth's later albums are deadly!

Seriously tho, its pretty pointless saying you dont like something without giving your view on it. Why do you think it is a joke?

The video doesnt fit with the video at all by the looks, seems more like Hey this a pretty cool film clip im gonna ruin it by placing music on top of it.

I thought a I Disappear sort video of a number of bad things happening in in between the Your Luck Runs out would of suited better

I agree I was completely let down by Death Magnetic......it just didn't live up to the hype :(

I just think the Death magnetic is really boring record,

and lyrics specially in Unforgiven III song are really afwul.

It is a shame really to say this, since I have listened Metallica over 18 years and I do even like St Anger:)

But with the new record, songs are long but there is nothing interesting to hear.

Are you sure you have been listening to Metallica for 18 years? Since when has Hetfield been inspirational with lyrics?

    From Kill 'Em All:
Leather and metal are our uniforms
    protecting what we are
Joining together to take on the world
    with our heavy metal

    From Ride the Lightning
Time is like a fuse, short and burning fast
Armageddon is here, like said in the past

Ive never listened to Metallica for the lyrical content. Ive listened to them because the music great!

As for DM, now that the dust has settled, Ive dont listen to any tracks beyond Cyanide. The first 6 songs on the album are great but the rest are weak IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

Yep. It's a pretty good album but the last few tracks slouch a bit. But most Pantera albums are the same, and they're still great, so it's a forgivable crime :)

I think suicide and redemption is a really good tune... great solo's... i don't think there is a bad song on the album but at the same thime there is no instant classic.

dislike the lack of variation in the guitar sounds, very samey, meh some of the songs are alright but its quite boring, made to please the fans, retreading familiar ground

That's a fair point, but for me it works in the albums favour.
It better helps to keep the album as a complete piece.

And not some SOAD style mess of left over demo tapes.

    GRAMMY AWARDS

Not only did "Death Magnetic" pick up four Grammy nominations, but we are excited that the album won Best Recording Package and My Apocalypse won for Best Metal Performance!

Congratulations to Rick Rubin, who picked up the Producer of the Year Grammy. In addition to working with us on "Death Magnetic," Rick produced Neil Diamond, Dancing For The Death Of An Imaginary Enemy, Jakob Dylan, and Weezer.

    loooooooooooooooooool

Or the fact that there's more to bitch about Death Magnetic than there is Chinese Democracy.

Not agreeing or disagreeing, but your statement doesn't exactly hold any substance, in fairness. :)

ah, but if you count all the negative and positive reactions, then work that out as a ratio and compare it to the chinese demo thread there will be scientific proof that DM is better than CD.

Its better than Load, Re-Load and St. Anger. Thats enough for me. Its going to be interesting to see what the next record is like.

Although the release date was set for September 12th, the album was released on September 7th in France due to a leak.

Since then, we have seen the album hit the number one spot in almost 20 countries, be nominated for a countless number of awards, and stimulate a US/European Tour, which has seen a variety of raritys, and the great unplayed utilised by the band. Unlike St Anger (with a grand total of 5 songs), 9/10 Death Magnetic tracks have been played live.

However, what do the fans feel one year on ? Has the album improved your view of Metallica, which was on the wain since the St Anger debacle ?

Having seen 8/10 of the songs live, I can vouch for the fact that they rock live, and get a great crowd response. That Was Just Your Life is as good an opener as one is likely to see, while End of the Line is a great follow up.

I think many fans would pick BBS as their favourite on the album, while The Day That Never Comes is easily the best epic Metallica have created since The Unforgiven.

My Apocalypse and Judas Kiss are songs to be heard live, while Cyanide and All Nightmare Long is a rocking classic.

So, what do all ye Metallica fans think ?

Is Death Magentic a Winner or a Loser?

One year on i regret giving this album so much praise. At the time i guess i was just so happy it wasn't another st.anger debacle. Now though i prefer load to it....the album is ok at best.

Chinese Democracy is quite possibly one of the worst albums I have ever heard.... ever.

Some catchy riffs but overall I find the album impossible to listen to. The songs just grate. Buckethead is obviously a fantastic guitar player, but I hate his sound/style or whatever the **** it is that he does, just irritates me.

but its pretty decent all the same

I probably like it more now then I did then. Great album I think

Still listen to it constantly. Some excellent songs on it :D
My favourite being My Apocalypse but That was Just Your Life and All Nightmare Long run it close.

Also starting to like the songs at first I wasn't fond of such as The End of The Line and Cyanide.

Can agree with that. That Was Just Your Life is still easily the best thing they've done since 1991. All Nightmare Long is a cracker too. The rest is ok but if it wasnt Metallica that did this album I'd probably like it a whole lot more.

If metallica didnt do this album i wouldnt have given it the light of day more than once.....im sure most people would agree, even based on the production alone. Its just a terrible cd to have to listen to.

eh no not really its far from terrible in my opinion not saying is fantastical but its not a disaster.i quite enjoyed listening to it..but sill rather listen to MOP but that will never change its just such a kick ass album

I dunno i reckon if any unknown band came out with it and there was no hype about it no one would have given it the light of day in the first place imo anyway.

I'm struggling to think of a metal album (by anyone) that I could say is not better than St. Anger.

I'd like it more if the guitars didn't sound so samey

...and drums so tinney and some solos...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,180 ✭✭✭nyarlothothep

The solos were a step in the right direction imo, back to the more exploratory style prior to when Hammet went all bluesy. The drums were a bit lame though, the snare is wrong again, its too round and still has a barrel-ish sound.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators Posts: 40,345 Mod ✭✭✭✭Seth Brundle

    what solos?
