I don't have a problem with your posts - I rarely read any. I was just highlighting that you have an agenda. That's all.

    I don't have a pro-IRA agenda. I think you'll find that I support the peace process.

How come you won't address my post with the correct statistics, rather than an attention grabbing thread title to your own ends?

In parts of West Dublin, immigrants make up the majority of the local population.

    Figures? Data?
And if so, what exactly is the problem with that?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 932 ✭✭✭PaulieD

    Where do you live?

In parts of West Dublin, immigrant children are the majority in the local schools. This is Ireland, not Poland or Nigeria.

The cheek of them to complain that we are racist for not building schools for them, how the hell where we suppossed to know hundreds of thousands of them would arrive in Ireland? Instead, Africans who were just off the plane were allowed to accuse us of racism, unhindered, for not having school places awaiting their children.

It's last years stats, up to December 2008. They were published this week and are the basis for the article in the Independent that you linked.

The cracks are already beginning to show. No country has absorbed the number of immigrants per capita Ireland has, without major problems. Ireland will be no different.

Yet, the media is always on the look out for an opportunity to scream racism. Instead, the media should be asking the big question, 'Why are we still admitting hundreds of thousands of immigrants?'

It is not a drop in the ocean, immigrants make up 15-20% of our population yet they make up 33% of our prison population.

From the last census in 2006 which would be the most recent reliable statistics we have for this, about 3.5% of the population were born outside Europe.

14.7% were born outside the ROI in total, with 6.5% - nearly half of all immigrants - coming from the UK alone.

Feel free to continue with your Durrteh Furrrners spiel if you like, but at least get some sense of the numbers.

The census was a joke, even the government admitted they vastly under estimated the number of foreigners in the country.

63,000 Poles? More Germans than Chinese? Did you hear Christmas was cancelled, you would swallow a brick if you believe them figures.

That video says between 1/4 and 1/2 of the population in those areas is made up from ethnic groups.

It seems to me from that video, that it is the immigrant children that have got the short straw by being sent to a segregated emergency school.

Anyway, I still don't get your point? What is it that you have against immigrants? Surely the fact that there isn't enough schools is the government's fault, not the immigrants?

How where the Irish government suppossed to know that hundreds of thousands of eastern europeans and africans where going to arrive in Ireland? Not once was it asked, what was the real reason for the africans and eastern europeans not having places in schools? Answer: they had only just come here.

It is a simple numbers game, mass immigration has been an absolute disaster for the country. Not once have the Irish people been asked if they wanted immigration. In fact, each and every opinion poll on the topic, suggested they do not.

Ehhh no, why is it the governments fault? Do they have a crytal ball?

The foreigners choose to immigrate here, it is their responsibility to organise their childrens educational needs in advance. Should the government have built extra schools, just in case more immigrants arrive?

The problem is the age groups that are coming into the country imo, up here in Newry most of the foreigners that have come in from poland etc are in the 20-30 age group. Its actually pretty noticeable when you go into newry courthouse and 8/10 of the defendants are foreign nationals (I was in the court because my 18yr old brother and sister were attacked by a gang of them while coming home from a night out). They tend to cruise about drinking and looking for locals to jump and beat up. Just listen to the news and you constantly hear of forgeiners involved in motor accidents.

Call me a racist or whatever, but for me... i'd rather not let them into my country so that we can sort our own scallywags out first.

How can they extradite if the crime is committed in Ireland? Otherwise they wouldn't be in prison here?

They should certainly deport any criminals, especially drug dealers. For some reason, I think the OP's motives go a little beyond criminality and is a pop at the non-national community of Ireland.

If there are issues, we should tackle them. Anyone drug-trafficking here should be immediately deported. If they don't respect the lives of us and our children, then they have lost their right to stay here.

Still - we shouldn't use this as a means of creating hysteria. I've had the pleasure of working with some great foreigners, and I think this may be a pop at the entire community - although I could be wrong.

Are you suggesting that the OPs stats are wrong?
