Maybe you upset the Rangers Dogging Session with your drive through speed OP?

    14. All members of the public should comply with any lawful instruction given to them by a Park Ranger;
    16. All motorists must adhere to the speed limit of 30 km.

You'd want to check the full bye laws of the park to be sure, but he may have been within his powers judging by the above. Now the OP did say they were told the limit was 50km/h, so maybe the above is nonsense.

also, who knew playing frisbee in the park needed the permission of the Park Superintendent?

(on a side note, can we have the words "high horse" erased from the English language? They seem to be trotted out [pun intended] every time someone disagrees with someone else, but can't be bothered coming up with a coherent argument)

he came up to my window and started saying he had to do 65kmp to catch up with me and said the speed limit was 50kmp

Read again he Said he had to do 65k to CATCH up, my reading of that is OP was not doing 65k probably slower.

    park constable
There have no been any constables in this country since 1921 when the RIC packed their bags and headed north.

I think the point of the OP was that he was stopped by a park ranger who alleged he was doing 65kph. It doesn't matter whether he was doing 65 or 165. That's not the point. Anyway how in the hell did the park ranger know what speed he was doing. Also what legal authority did he have to stop the OP.

+1, whatever about the legal position I have zero sympathy for the OP. It's a park, FFS.

On this point the OP may well be correct. If a cyclist or a jogger or a walker or a child had threatened to report her, they may not have been on solid legal ground either. But we live in a very strange world if pointing out that speeding through parks is wrong qualifies as being on ones high horse.

Why is it that some people never miss an opportunity to try and show off their political correctness?

And I suppose you've never once broken the speed limit either, Anan1? The OP probably knows that she was driving too fast, FFS. What we're discussing here is power hungry dipsticks who have no right to take actions that are only reserved for the Gardai that we pay to do so.

Because he looked at his own speedo and randomly attributed this speed to the vehicle he was pursuing regardless of the laws of physics regarding relative velocity! :p

im fumming with myself that i didnt take his name and reg number and report him for impersonating gaurd!!

How exactly did he impsonate a member of the Gardai? I assume you'd have mentioned that he pretended to be a Gard in your OP if he did.

    There are kids etc.

Those guards are also here to insure the security of the public in the park.

oh ffs I can walk faster than that!

get off my lawn and stop ruining people's fun.

I think what the OP meant was the "warden or ranger" or whatever was insinutating he had power of gardai etc to issue summons for speeding and fllashing lights to pull people over etc.

In other words behaving like he was a Garda when in actual fact he was nothing more than a simple civilian with no authority over the OP what so ever.

And people have been prosecuted before for doing exactly what the ranger / warden done btw

"Report him for impersonating a Gard " implies the actual offence.

all I'm gonna say to that is that Im VERY sure the OP knows what she's talking about here ;)

    30km is a distance not a speed :D

Why not. They can summons you to court and the Warden can state that he followed you at a speed of 65kph or whatever.

Yah... that's standing up in court.

the park rangers are only OPW workers and surely to god have no authority to pull anyone over for speeding, its the same thing as me pulling over any other person for speeding on a public road! has anyone else ever been stoped by the park ranger for something similar??

Roads in the Phoenix Park are State property as opposed to public roads. Try speeeding or dodgy parking on Army property and you'll get exactly the same treatment - they'll warn you and if you're caught again they will call the Civil power ie the Guards.

And that's what that park ranger should've done, and not take the law into his own hands like he did.

sure i could still hit a kid doing 50kmp, and even if i did thats not my fault the kid was stupid enough to walk on the road and not the footpath! get off that high horse there! dont try to tell me you stick to the speed limits all the time! also speed limits are there to be broken

IS the correct spelling blondie7 not Garda being the singular and Gardai plural.

Anyhow, it's always the fault of the driver if s/he cannot stop in time. S/he should have been driving at the speed appropiate to the road and conditions. Just because the road may be 50km/h, does not mean you have to travel at that speed. I try to stick to the appropiate speed limits as they are there for a reason and not meant to be broken.

I agree with this... but in fairness, on the main road thru the park, with good visibility, it's fairly safe driving at 60-65km/h.

they refer to themselves as Gaurds and not Garda's actually!!

are you saying just cos your sticking to the speed limits your less likely to hit someone than me travellin at 60/65kmp??
of course speed limits are there to be broken, all rules are there to be broken life would be boring if we all stuck to the rules!! once again i find myself repeating myself but seriously get off the moral high ground

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

No, VolvoMan, of course I haven't. Never, ever. But go on anyway, tell me how it's relevant.

If that were true then I doubt she'd be here whining about getting a b*llocking from a park ranger.

That's what you're discussing. I'll rant and rave about authority too sometimes, but not in defence of somebody who's upset because they got given out to for speeding through the Phoenix Park.

ah thats b0llocks now everyone at some point in there life has broken the speed limit. get your facts right anan1 i am not whinning about getting a b0llocking over my speed, if a Gaurd pulled me in for it i wouldnt be posting here, my point is that some jumped up little park ranger thinks he has the power to this, so perhaps you should re-read my original post. people like you make me sick always thinking there so bloody perfect!

There are places in the Phoenix Park where you might safely go a lot faster, but that's not the point - it's a park. In any case, given the OP's apparent ignorance of basic physics:

i'd be concerned for the safety of those around her at 30km/h.
