I have never heard of an Irish person in Ireland, playing the race card. Strange comment.

    I'm talking about Travellers.

set up trade unions that didn't allow any black people to join. Imagine that happening here
    .
sorry, is this a joke, or do you genuinely not know of this happening here? genuine question?

Anyway, corks Taxi driver union wont let "non-nationals" join.

I was talking about imagine if lets say Nigerians did the same thing here in Ireland today. Africans had been in the Americas(USA and Brazil) for probably just a little under two centuries before the Irish arrived there en masse.

One major difference is America was asking for immigrants while in Ireland there were many people entering the country and seeking refugee status when they could apply in the first country they got to within the EU.

From some countries the people making it to Ireland are from the rich classes. On entering this country they were provided for by state money unlike America. Stories are not very comparable and I would guess the feed back on the ad would probably have shown it was not very effective in conveying their message.

I personally wouldn't blame any person for trying to improve their life but am annoyed that the situation was left as it was when it was obvious there was a cost to the country.

I'm sick of this "you can't generalise" argument. It's weak and pathetic imo.

Does that mean you can't say the Nazis were cruel and inhumane because "you can't paint everyone with the same brush"? I'm sure some of them were nice deep down and were only doing their job to feed their family.
    /liberal BS

What do you mean by Nazis? The zealous believers or do you include the people who took up membership of the party because it was a useful thing to do in Germany at the time?

So you can tar Irish people with the one brush? This is your argument? Strange days.

now then, remind me where racism comes from? is it from uneducated bollox being posted on internets cat forums by any chance?

    ah no not degsy

Degsy has quite a valid point. If people don't like it here let them go home. I find it disingenuous for non native people to come here and start lecturing us on our society and our opinions.

I would never dream of going to another country and ranting "your country is **** etc...." if I did I'd be expected to be run out of town.

But what most people fail to see if that foreign people rarely suffer racism in Ireland.
Here it's do-good , hand wringing lefties at a loss for some to do till the next abortion spate with Youth Defense blow out of proportion, any situation with a smell of "racialist" (thanks jady goody for that word) about it.

so next time you are in England and someone calls you Paddy you won't be complaining then? Obviously it is accpetable if you are in "Their" country.

In your opinion maybe, but you might think differently if you were black/asian/eastern european.

Take a look at the politics forum once in a while and see how many threads get opend on there about uncapped immigration and how all nigerians get a free house/car/swimming pool as soon as they set foot in the country.

BTW, how many Swans have we lost to Polish Barbecues?

sometimes it takes an outsider to tell us their perceptions of what we are for us to consider our own perceptions. To disregard them would be myopic.

any of it is unacceptable, imo.

i don't really find "Paddy" offense tbh. its only a name.
But i've been called "paddy" and I didn't bat an eyelid.
Although admittedly if i had it screamed in my face I'd prob be pissed off.
In your opinion maybe, but you might think differently if you were black/asian/eastern european.

    Would I?
My friends is married to a Thai and neither her nor her mates get any stick. In fact it's my mate who gets the dirty looks when he visits thailand with his missus.
I worked as a doorman with a polish lad for 3 years who I'm still great mates with , he never encountered racism here.
He did mention some friends of his being ripped off by employers but sure that happens whether you are white, yellow or brown.

Admittedly these are anecdotal but I can only go on what I hear and not the rants of Rosanna Flynn (and her ilk) whenever she gets airtime.
Lets be honest , she would make you racist.

BTW, how many Swans have we lost to Polish Barbecues?
Polish don't eat swan. Romanians do.
I dunno for sure but I read that in the UK the swan population has taken a tumble.

    to disregard them yes,.
To take it as gospel and go about the "we are terrible" routine on the back of it is just stupid.

any of it is unacceptable, imo.
    #

It is unacceptable but it is a small problem and way down the list of priorities this country has.

It is funny how racists are pillored and abused to high heaven and a peado will get only a fraction of the attention and abuse.
Just check the ranting and raving against jady goody and compare that to any attention a peado has received. Only Gary glitter gets much stick in the press and honestly it's hardly anything Goody had to endure, post her session on Celeb Big Brother.

We (as a nation) have our priorities arseways. Only Ireland and the UK has this fascination with racism. Where we beat ourselves up over it.

although it has to be said many black people in usa would have irish ancestry due to living side by side Irish in slums.
does that mean 'Irish' is an STD? :pac:

    do we?

i would rather racism is constantly debated and highlighted than live in a country that ignores it and considers it acceptable to make monkey chants at black footballers.

ive watched the advert and i think its clever. so kudos to them on that.

However im never comfortable with the paralells made between the Irish in america and the Nigerians in Ireland.

The 2 experiences are very different

I constantly find it fascinating that Irish people seem to think they are racist and are hell bent on repeating it until they actually believe it to be the country’s biggest problem.

32,000 foreigners out of 90, 0000, which I think is quite high actually, have free accommodation from the state funded by the majority i.e. Irish people

80, 0000 plus foreigners are in receipt of state funded welfare, their children are receiving the same education as Irish children, they receive the same health cover as Irish people. What other country can you work for 105 weeks and 100% get welfare and accommodation?

Of course by playing the race card it can cover many unsavory aspects of a person behavior and immediately put any queries Irish people have the back foot. Maybe I should give it a go start throwing around the racist card when I don't get my way.

Instead of shouting racist, maybe foreigners should start appreciate what Ireland has done for them, rather than killing the gooses that lay the gold egg

The only racist behaviour in ireland is against the Irish, they can't say bo now in their country

Racism in Ireland gives me break
