    Hi All,

Just been reading through some posts and this seems like the place for me to discuss new weight watchers journey.

I attended my first meeting last night and weighed in at 14st :( But it can only get better from here right?

I always have struggled with my weight, and haven't been able to stick with anything long enough to see long term results. So here I am, hoping and wishing that I stick to this programme. I am so determined to make it happen. I need this so much, for my health , for my sanity!!

    weight.png

So, I will be taking this day by day, setting small goals as I go along. And having insight into other peoples journeys is going to help me along the way:D

    Welcome Itsmytime.

You will find great support on this thread. We are all in the same boat here....

I am going back to WW tonight, with all the stress of Mum in hospital I know I have loaded back on the weight I lost. At this stage I just cant keep driving a almost 6 hour round trip each day to see and try to keep mu buisness going. I am just to tired so I go every second day. I need to do something for me to keep sane so thats to go back to WW. I feel fat and tired, old, wornout and FAT FAT FAT....

Wish me luck. Going to try to pack a sanbo and snacks to take with me for visiting Mum and keep away from the vending maching outside ICU. I an going tto be kind to myself and not beat myself ith a stick when I fall flat on my face. Thank god for a wonderful supportive husband.

Well done on all the weigh loses and chin up to those who dont make it this week, we can do it next week.

Those who are heading on holiday this weekend have a great time, come back sun tanned (dont forget the sun cream) and relaxed, ready to go again.

    C x x

Thanks for the good wishes barneylou.

Itsmytime - I have been a serial weight watchers joiner (but never completer) for the last 10 years. I would stick to it for the first week and then after that would start to cheat. Then once the weight loss slowed down I'd fall off the wagon. This time I really got my head together before I joined. I was ranting at a friend one day about how people take me for granted etc and it turned into a bit of a counselling session. I started to realise that while I spent my time resenting people for taking me for granted, I was actually the worst culprit at taking myself for granted. I deserve to be a healthy weight and to look well.

I made a conscious decision to turn this into the Summer of Me. I am being a lot more selfish with my time and making some time every day to do something for myself. Once I made that decision, everything started to click into place. I'm on my 5th week of Weightwatchers now, I'm down a stone with just another 2 to go. I am still so determined to get to goal and stay there. I have stuck to the programme rigidly. I don't want to eat crap food because when I think of it I just tell myself that my body doesn't deserve that crap. I haven't had anything remotely close to a "blow out" and it's showing on the scales. I'm exercising for a minimum of 5 hours a week and I have discovered a real love for healthy, nutritious and fresh food. I used to go weeks without cooking a proper dinner. Since I've started WW I've cooked every day and I'm really enjoying it.

I really, really believe that the biggest obstacle to losing weight is your way of thinking. Keep reminding yourself how determined you are, picture yourself at your goal weight, and just follow the programme and you're guaranteed to get there.

As my sister says "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels".

Best of luck on your weightwatchers journey. Look forward to hearing your updates.

(Sorry this post went off on a tangent a little lol)

Thanks Journey for your post. I can totally relate to what you have said about being taken for granted. I have to blame myself for that though, as I have let it happen and have always put other first. That has not really got "me" anywhere. So I basically had a little talk to myself and said enough is enough. So I took the plunge and joined WW. I thought of joining before but felt too embarassed to recognise the issue.

I am sooo happy now I have taken that step. Even today my mood and motivation has completely picked up, and honestly I am a little excited to see what results I get from it. I know that the good mood and excitement might not last long, it's going to be hard but I can just focus on each day.

So here is to us, those who have stepped up, put ourselves first and decided that this is our time, our chance to make ourselves a little happier;)

    Hey All,

I joined weight watchers last night for the first time. weighed in at 14stone 3lbs. Nearly died as I never expected that and don't look that weight but am delighted I joined.

Im going to try the fast track plan and eat 18 points. Its a lot easier than I thought. Had tea, a kiwi and a banana at breakfast. And baked potato with a tiny bit of cheese and some beans at lunch. And an orange just now for a snack.

I think my downfall was not eating much food all along and even though I exercised I wasnt losing weight. Plus its hard because the canteen where I work makes escellent food, hard to always be healthy.

I few things Im wondering about, what bread can I use if I was to make a sandwich? What about alcohol, I like Bulmers light? Also what about exercise do I need to do much of it?

I have a fear this wont work so I Really hope this helps my weight loss I want to lose a stone and a half to be back to a normal weight

Went to WW tonight and nearly died, up almost 11 pounds in the 2 weeks. I feel sad but tomorrow is a new day and My mum was much more important. Now that I am going to see her in the hospital every second day should help. I have packed a bagel with one of those mini tibs of philly for tomorrow, plus fruit. Hopefully that will stop me having to go to the vending machine.

    Hi all!!

First off welcome to all the newbies!!!:D

I've just been reading through all of the recent posts and I have to say they have really given me a bit of a boost this week. I feel like I've hit a bit of a wall these last few weeks gaining 1lb this week and staying the same the week before:o. I got to this same weight the last time I was on the programme and after two weeks of not losing I just packed it in and gave up. But I'm determined to get to my goal this time and reading the posts on here is really keeping me going so thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences. Its good to know I'm not the only one who struggles sometimes:D.

depuylady- I'm not sure about the Bulmers but as regards the bread for sambo's I usually just use my usual brown or white sliced bread. I find most of them are 1-1.5 points. there is always the WW branded bread but I dont real like it I find it VERY thin. As regards exercise I find walking good and have also taken up aqua aerobics and I find that good too. ibarelycare might back me up with that:D:D

Good luck to all this weekend!!!!!!!:p

    Thanks,

I think im very worried about weight loss now because I was eating less in the last few weeks when i was trying to lose weight and I seem to be eating more on WW. So I have a bif fear of putting on weight. Also my leader told me there's no need to exercise

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,184 ✭✭✭neuro-praxis

I can't believe your leader said that. She's certainly not representing WW as a whole. Perhaps she said that you will more than likely lose weight even without exercising which is true, but exercise is absolutely essential for health. it's non-negotiable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 66 ✭✭Depuy lady

    Hey Neuro-praxis

I know I was very surprised she said that about exercise. Im very dubious now about WW. I dunno if what Im eating is going to help me lose weight ive been truing for weeks before i joined ww and im getting nowhere

Technically speaking if you stick rigidly to your allotted points there is no need to exercise on the WW plan.

Your points allowance means you're taking on less calories than you need given your current lifestyle without adding any exercise therefore you lose weight.

You're right when you say that exercise is absolutely essential for health, but a lot of people on WW use exercise to work off any extra points they've used in a moment (or moments:)) of weakness or that they planning to use up in future moments of weakness:pac:.

I exercise a lot and it has really helped with my weightloss- 4 st 9 so far, but I've met people in WW who can't exercise because of knee or back problems who have successfully lost weight.
I think im very worried about weight loss now because I was eating less in the last few weeks when i was trying to lose weight and I seem to be eating more on WW.
When I started WW I found it hard to use all my points but if you eat less your body starts to think it's being starved and actually stores fat more efficiently and you can put on weight so it's really important to eat up your allowance, that's why you're only allowed to save so many points a week.

    Hey Breadandjam

Thanks for the reply. Is it ok to be on the fast track plan instead of the discover plan for the first week?

To be honest I don't know. I'm not familiar with the fast track plan.
The best person to ask is your leader. Leaders are a resource a lot of us don't use. I know sometimes in a crowded class they seem rushed and want to get through the quue but buttonhole oyur leader and ask the questions you want.

If you after a few weeks you still feel iffy about your leader then shop around for a new one til you find one that suits you, admittedly this is easier to do in a big city.

From my experience doing WW you do not "need" to exercise if you want to lose the weight. As long as you stick to your points allowance every day it is possible BUT after a while your body does get used to the reduced amount of food you are eating and eventually you will start to plateau and your weight loss will slow down and eventually come to a stop. This is where the exercise comes in. You need to exercise to continue losing or maintain your weight from that stage on.

Imo exercise is something that should be done from the beginning. You have made the decision to lose weight and change your eating habits so why not add exercise into the mix as well. It can only help your weight loss in the long run.

The fast track plan does exactly what is says on the tin.It fast tracks your weight loss and gives you a little kick but again imo regardless of which plan your following for the first week if you follow it correctly you will lose anyway.

hope this helps and if you decide to stick with it good luck. I know its working for me and many others so give it a try you never know :D:D

hi again, back after a few chaotic weeks. moved house and job within teh last few weeks so i havent been keeping too much on track. missed one weigh in, but delighted to say was down a pound this wk - had been expecting a gain so was thrilled. thats a total loss of 4 stone 5 lbs.

no more excuses from me now, its back on track and off with the weight!

have found my local meeting (and i think i prefer this leader to my old one) and have also found a curves gym and an aqua aerobics class nearby, so im all sorted.

first mini goal is a friends wedding in 4 weeks - want to be half a stone lighter by then.

    Thanks Shelly n Itsallboutme

My problem when I gained the lb was that I had stuck rigidly to my points, I had done dedicated exercise EVERY day,a combination of resistance weights, cardio and yoga(@1hr45mins) that took a bit of juggling to do, I was also doing a lot of hard labour in the garden digging, moving earth, shifting rocks etc. Basically I was on the go at a high enough intensity for 7 days, consuming up to 4lt of water, eating my points, and ............you choose best/worst no alcohol.

So, come wi time I was the most confident I had ever been, in my mind I was gonna match my 3 lb loss from previous week and maybe add a little more, cos I didi'nt eat the extra that exercise would have allowed me.

But, no, after that effort I had actually gained a lb. Now that more than the weeks of -1lb or no change hit me like a tonne of lead., couldn't claim TOM (which ups my weight by 5-8lbs)It made me doubt what I've been trying to do for the last few months. You see, I thought I'd cracked it, with the food, exercise, water intake and tracking..........................now I do love maths and this is one mathmatical solution that makes no sense

I went back through my food diaries and the only difference was I had added 2 sclices of bread/day (small homemade wholemeal) and swoppd out other points to allow for it.

Since I logged out last time not knowing if I would continue I have not fallen off the wagon, I like n enjoy now wot I eat, so I stuck to my points and exercised. this weeks wi no change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tis really doing me haed in, think I'm gonna have to go to d doc n see if theres something else going on in me body, it was mentioned b4 that I cud b suffewring frm hypothyroidism.
Thats my next step. Still not quitting

Welcome to all the newbieesssss, here is a godsend, take part in discussion and enjoy

Well done to all the mega loooooosssserrrrrrs. props
As for those in my boat, stick it out, if you look at the maths of it, it works, be honest with yourself, and rely on those here who are willing to give of their experience

Caroline....................so sorry to hear bout your mum, tis not easy hun to do all, but there are a few things to help you focus on yourself while looking after her. most of it u'v cracked, bring ur own grub, plenty of water, but also use the facilities, In any hosp I worked there was always a quiet stairwell, use that to fit in 5-10-20 mins of cardio exercise, I always found while waiting to see my mum it was the one thing I cud do to literally shut me mind down for a few mins, and even if I was wasted startng by the time I done @ 20 mins mentally I was in a better place to go in n see mum.
I kno its each to their own, but give it a shot, cause the better u feel the better u'r able to cope with onslaught of emotions that land be they good or bad..,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It helpd me deal when my mum was in.
Thinking of you, sending you me best wishes

    Hi felinefeelins,

It may just be that with drinking 4 litres of water a day, you retained more than you normally would. I would advise trying to stick to 2 litres this week and see if it makes a difference

The reason I was drinking so much was due to the fact thay I was "glowing" :p (sweating) a bucket, remember the weather, all you had to do was open the door and u were drenched, well I was. So to balance out my normal intake I felt I had to up the amount I was drinking. it is something to consider though. Thanks :pac:

Something else to consider is that you must be building up your muscles with all the exercise especially the weights and the gardening and muscle weighs more than fat.

There are a couple of reasons why you shouldn't weigh your self. One is because your weight changes throughout the day so unless you're weighing yourself at the same time as your WW weigh in you'll likely get a false reading. Also unless you've synchronised your scales with the weightwatcher's one it'll probably give a different reading anyway.

The most important one is though that if your scales show you up in weight it's very easy to go off the rails and say "To hell with it, where's the chocolate?" Whereas after your weigh in at the meeting you have the support of the leader and the other members to help you cool down during the meeting.

One more thing is to check your tracking and the points for each food you eat. Go back to the book.

As for WW ready meals I never found them very helpful. No great taste and the portions seem too small :). Better to cook your own and load your plate up with stirfried veg to fill up.

Or check out Marks & Spencer Count on Us Range which now show the WW points on the package. More expensive but tastier.

    Hi Breadandjam,

Thanks for your advice, im eating a lot of fruit and veg and salads and the WW meals and ive had 2 WW snack bars since last wednesday. The only different thing im eating is mccambridges bread max two slices a day. i havent been exercising that much because ive been working such long hours. Ill cut back on the ready meals and see what happens. Its my first week so to put up weight would be a real downer

Ladies can I ask some advice please?? Ive been dabbling in every diet imaginable for the past 6 months and havent dont anything properly so hence Im still the same weight. Im getting married now in 7 weeks. Could I loose a stone in 7 weeks with WW? Im about 15 stone 10 at the moment so really overweight. Could kick myself for not loosing it for the wedding!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,184 ✭✭✭neuro-praxis

Yes you could, especially at your starting weight. You could even lose a little more.

Go to the class and sign up. Then follow the plan strictly, eating loads of fruit and veg and wholefoods, and exercise every day. In 7 weeks you are pretty much guaranteed a stone and perhaps a few pounds extra.

Remember to factor in that your dress might need to be taken in the week before.
