Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

i remember it was a man in a wheel chair that blocked them with some women in the area.it was about 2pm the kids were coming from school and joined the protest placing bikes in front of the van.then the rats from limerick in a hi ace van had a bit of bad luck when they got 4 punctures!the crowd grew and workers from the glass and industrial estate joined the protest.i remember brian o shea returning from the dail that evening to talk to the crowd and it was near midnight when they left the rats go.they drove that hi ace with police escort up browns road on the rims.i remember it now like it was last week but id say the rats will never forget it.
IIRC, they were drafted in from Wexford. It made the RTE news and I remember seeing myself on TV standing on a wall in Lismore Park, while across the road in Larchville, people were hanging out their windows.
It would never happen in this day and age. If they came down to turn off the water, they would first have to find the student whose car is parked on top of the tap

I was at the Lismore Park protest.
Was at the Bordeaux game too. Cue terrace singing of 'Tigana is a w**ker!'
Didn't go to the Man Utd (spit) game, but was at the Arsenal game in '86. A lanky Niall Quinn on the bench. No sign of new signing Charlie Nicholas. Arsenal took the lead through a diving header by Martin Hayes and the Blues later equalised through a Paul Cashin penalty. Finished 1-1.
Kilcohan also saw the Al Finuchane testimonial game where Waterford played Eoin Hand's Limerick side. The Blues paraded the FAI Cup, while I think Limerick had the league trophy (but not sure). All I really remember is the smell of deep heat from the dressing room.
I also took part in a guard of honour walk down the quay alongside a trailer with John Treacy on it just after he got back from winning silver in LA '84.
Another athletics event saw Eamonn Coghlan, Steve Cram and John Treacy run from the RSC and do a road-route. I was a spectator at that.
Didn't see the Fat Sam's blaze, but was in there the night before...and sad to say, was never in there again.
Does anyone remember the Garrett blaze? Now that was scary!
Yeah Remember the blaze in garrett, watching from the graveyeard side, memory might be foggy on this but I remember the way the smoke moved in a rolling fashion, over walls etc.. and the stink!
On that point, remember when the industrial estate used to stink of various chemicals and things being melted and burned?

Also at the Water Rats protest, people in action, sadly the last time I saw it in Waterford
Any one Remember the Coke Lorry over turning behind the Glass Pitch and Putt? We filled a pallett of stuff, I remember the driver saying only take the stuff on the ground and not out of the lorry Cops were stuffing the wagon that day also
I Remember John Tracey's homecoming.
What about the circuit of Ireland Rally's over easter? Or the Nissan Classic Cycling? Tour de France in waterford and dungarvan?
The Beat on the Street and Electric Eddie (or the Beating on the street as it was sadly)?
On a very sad note the Kyle Curran murder was a significant event in the city in the way the innocence of kids carefree playing on the street came to an end, really scared us as kids at the time, god bless his soul.0 -
