Would this bike go better with a red or white wine?

White, but from Aldi not Lidl. Mmm, Liebfraumilch.

These german guys seems to be the main wholesalers for the stratos in germany land
    It's sold here too

It does look like an ITM Visia but with Visia replaced with "Stratos" (fork manufacturers do this a fair amount, matching to a frame.) Where did you find confirmation? 7005 aluminium is a very common alloy for bikes.

I have an ITM Visia cross fork on my tourer, there is also a road version without the canti mounts which Lumen has. ITM are a perfectly reputable bike company and the fork is fine, as Lumen says it indeed keeps the head tube off the ground and I would add, being carbon, it is laterally stiff but vertically compliant :)

Not from me - I'd still get a Decathlon Bike before a Lidl Stratos ... then again ... lidl sells very soft toilet paper

Looks like the Irish price has been dropped to match the german price....

If you buy this bike and avail of the Government Cycling scheme, you would end up saving a pretty penny.

I might just have to go out and get this one...

With tax back and that price ... I would buy it ... and get a carbon frame and built it up with all Ultegra ... surely you can't get a full Ultegra groupset cheaper than that.

Also, sell the frame on ebay for 100 quid.

    €510 for the groupset.

€800 -> €470 equiv at 41% tax rate (will probably get "better" this afternoon).

Plus a shed load of free parts.

€510 for Ultegra SL Compact in CSS (discounted.) Lidl bike is still a good deal, apart from the wheels stuff like seatpost/saddle/headset/bars/stem/pedals all adds up.

€480 on the cycle to work scheme for the 40% tax bracket - probably cheaper after a tax hike in the budget - €455 at 43%

    Mmmm lidl chocolate ....

For the cycle to work scheme the employer has to buy the bike, not the employee. Can't see many HR departments sending people down to Lidl to check if their special offer is still available.....though for the self employed it should be much more doable.

Looks like 799.99 is the Norn Iron price......
    still 899.99 in the republic

    Dammit, he's right...

Sorry folks, I just used yon google and it came back with that page. It's pretty ambiguous without the currency though eh?

Self employed can't avail of scheme unless they are PAYE employees of their own company.

Gone very quiet on the Lidl bike thread, I'm not surprised, I dropped on to my local Lidl this morning hoping to view the bike but no luck, they don't even have it on display! You've to sign an application form and pay for the bike and just hope you like it if and when it arrives at your house..

no different to buying a bike from any online store and like any purchase you can return it if you don't want it so no big deal.

I don't disagree with you Stuf but maybe I'm old-fashioned and prefer to see in the flesh, so to speak, what I'm buying bike-wise, lidl have plenty of stores in this country to display the bike and putting a display model or two in each shop shouldn't be beyond them.

Are you sure about being able to return it if you don't want it? If there's something wrong with it, or not as described then fair enough - but if you just decide you don't want it?

Yes - Lidl have a full 28-day money back guarantee:

    http://www.lidl.ie/ie/home.nsf/pages/c.service.au.sl.ser

I honestly can't believe the amount of times I seen statements of the type "I bought X from Lidl and it didn't work/was sh!t - serves me right for going to lidl/aldi"

All their electronic equipment generally has 2-3 year comprehensive warranties and I've never had anything from them that didn't work

There seems to be this idea that aldi and lidl are rip off merchants but in reality they just sell some good stuff for cheap and some cheap stuff for cheaper. Their prices are based on bulk purchasing not ripping people off. Might not be the finish or quality of more expensive branded stuff but it does the job. The HRM on my bike computer works as well as my Polar - strap's a bit clunky compared with the Polar but it's not uncomfortable.
