lidl road bike

If I wanted to spend 900 euro on a bike ... why would I spend it on something I don't know ... which has no online reviews and which I won't even be allowed to test ride.

People on this forum love value for money ... even though they spend truck loads of money. Planet X and Focus did not just happen overnight ... bike magazines reviewed it ... websites were searched .. a few people bought it .. others tested it and then they were declared good enough to join Boards bang for the buck list.

Regardless of what bike I buy, upgraditis will set in sooner rather than later .. in which case I would rather have a frame I know is good rather than something I have no clue about.

This has got nothing to do with my bike riding ability what so ever. I have the money .. I shall buy the best I can .. and I don't think the Lidl bike offers what most people who are into cycling want.

And the very fact that you bought a Trek Madone for 300 quid .. makes this look a not so good bargain ... after all its 600 more.

Would you put 900 euro on something with a guaranteed 5% return or would you rather spend it on the blackjack table .... your choice ..

Lidl seems to have gone for a market which doesn't exist. People who buy standard Halfords bike will not go for this as its too expensive .. and people in the know would not spend 900 euro on a frame which they know nothing about.

i'd like this bike, but i already spent all my money on a cheaper trek bike. i think this bike will be very good, especially for under a grand. i'm sure the frame would not be as good as frames that you would normally get with an ultegra groupset, but so what? it will probably be good enough to get me from my house to meet up with a group of people and put myself through some sort of punishment involving struggling up the side of a mountain for forty minutes in the granny gear just so i can fly down the other side in about a tenth of that time.

i think sales will be slow though. people willing to spend that much an a bike will proabably go to chainreactioncycles or wiggle, or even take the hit on an lbs (though after recent reviews, avoid the quays...). people willing to buy a bike in lidl won't understand the price mark. the thing i can't imagine is the market for this bike. although having said that there do seem to be an awful lot of people getting into cycling/triathlon's and i think this bike would be great for them. if you're one of those people reading this wondering what to do about the lidl bike, i'd say it's probably good value, and if you do get it, just bring it to an lbs to get it set up for you.

i'd also like to say that i think paul hardwick has done a wondeful job of entertaining/infuriating some of the others on this board by being exactly what he claims they are: somebody who is a position to tell people about something they know nothing about. what's hilarious about the whole thing is we know you know nothing about it, the bike, as you said, isn't on sale yet. i know there were others saying the bike was rubbish before they had seen it, but you've definitely made a martyr out of yourself.

all in all, if anyone want to get me this bike, or buy my trek 1200 with a tiagra groupset, spd pedals and a LIDL computer off me for €899, i'd be happy to let some of you test ride my lidl bike at some stage.
