Ah yes, the difference in living free in Ireland and spending life in jail too are worlds apart so if a murderer denied killing someone in court I wouldn't condone it but I could understand why they did it.

(Comparison obviously makes no accusation of guilt towards her or our fictional murderer till after court cases)

Has Ms Izevbekhai been a victim of FGM at some point in her life ?

If not, then it apparently isn't as rampant as she is claiming.

But is it really? Maybe some are to blame. But first off it takes two to tango so to speak. Neither the government or her should be seen in a good light for this fiasco (the entire stretched out fiasco).

Also the people who claim it is our fault are the one's that will usually be the first to call some one racist for suggesting tougher measures or bring out the "it's the law" quote or mention or hands are tied by Europe. This makes it tough to suggest changing the law so that we're not to blame.

I am not happy about how this case went and would be happy to see tighter rules and larger punishments if people are found to be fraudulent but unfortunately people claim we're a soft touch yet at the same time sympathise with people who have had their claim rejected time and time again.

The worst part is us goons falling for it. It's been widely reported that this FGM is grossly exaggerated and even if it does happen, are we to accept all people based on it?

It's a Nigerian problem that needs to be tackled; but why would they care when the Irish
are more than happy to "fix" it!

no i wouldnt be dishonest - no no no - it always comes back whatever hope you had is totally diminished when it is found out which it invariably does - to me this is the equivalent of a woman who claims to have been raped and then takes back her story when its found out it never happened, leaving the real victims afraid to come forward for fear of not being believed - this lady has probably ruined many other families lives who could be totally genuine in their claim - they wont be believed,its going to make it next to impossible to prove - as pamelas document were believed for years

which does begger how it took the legal profession so long to get to this...

fgm is horrific and should be outlawed which it is in africa but that doesnt stop the traditionlists from illegally continuing this barbaric practise - its their culture but its horrible..

Good and valid point. From experience though, asylum seekers are on a hiding to nothing here anyway. A very tiny minority are succesful in their application and most have to wait years for any progress whatsoever. This has been going on for years, long before this case, I think the damage is already done as regards genuine applicants.

As far as I can fathom, the only winners are the legal reps, on both sides, and the people who provide the accommodation, for years, at huge expense to the state.

But your missing the point. If she has deceived the state she shouldn't be getting support. If say someone was accused of raping someone would you feel the same? Would you sympathise with him if he was deceiving the state? Sure he's only trying to stay out of jail. If the shoe was on the other foot we'd all the same surely?

There are genuine cases out there and they deserve you sympathies not someone whose case has failed at every time at a legal level and who has resorted to tugging on the heart strings of those that are of a more sympathetic persuasion (Dudess if you're reading this I didn't use PC brigade

This is a test case of the Irish society. So many here claim our country has been a soft touch on this issue but will anyone question canvassers when they call to your door about asylum issues? Most won't in fear of the R-word.

The whole immigration issue is on a whole a diaster for Ireland,regardless of what side of the coin you are on,theres no getting away from the fact that Ireland is still a very insular,old fashioned,inclusive and in general a tad backwards society,we like to think we are on a par with England,France,Spain and other large European countries but in reality we are in essence a little island that is very old fashioned and set in its ways,something like mass immigration is not something that is ever going to go down well here,especially if a significant amount of immigrants/ayslum seekers etc are trying their best to scam and steal their way through life here,we already have enough of our own doing that and they dont like any outsiders trying to cash in on our scams,so of course there will be overwhelming resentment towards foreigners.....................................................I think what annoys me most about asylum seekers and immigrants,and Im sure most Irish people,is how unappreciative they are to our society,culture and to us in general,if I was lving in poverty or under threat from my own state,and another country offered me proctection and a good quality of life,Id be extremely greatful and remember to respect the natives of that counrty and respect and contribute to their culture and their society,but to me,alot of immigrants/asylum seekers come accross extremely rude and try not to intregrate,and this contributes nothing to Ireland................So to sum up,Ireland is facing some of its biggest challenges at the moment,and the last thing we need are ungrateful blow ins holdiing us back,if there are foreign people here willing to contribute to this county then fine,they are more then welcome,but if there are those who wish to scam and be a nuisance they should be deported as soon as possible,such as the woman mentioned here
