Guys i don't post here too often, and i'm prob making a mistake now, but i'm doing it anyway. I'm 24 and have a half decent job but I'm only a collector really and not into skirmishing yet but was hoping to get into it at some point.

For the past 6 months or so i've learned tonnes from this forum from threads written by people who seem to be level headed, intelligent and rightly proud of their sport.

like a lot of people here i was enraged and downright worried about of the possibility of the banning of airsoft in this country and like others here i decided to apply for membership of the IAA, a move which i am confident was the right one.

A lot of my friends thought i was mad at first when they'd see my garage filled with bits and bobs from aegs and gbb's, almost all of em have started collecting on their own now. recently i've been telling em to get on boards and you'll learn a lot there. then they see the likes of this thread here, which i have read in all of it's sad and petty glory. They couldn't get over the amount of sh**e that's being thrown around with mods included by the way but that's a matter for them.

i ask u how do u expect any young sport to flourish and grow with this amount of acrimony within a smallish community of players. i implore both sides to sit down, take a breath, and sort this out for the good of the sport in this country before ye do more damage than a ban by the doj ever could do to it.

As regards your post above doc, i don't really know who u are, but it must be one of the most arrogant i've seen in the whole what 19 or so pages of this sorry thread.

guys happy xmas to u all and best wishes for the new year,

    Mike,
    cork

    I LOL'd

On a serious note I am worried about these guys talking to the DOJ in January.

The IAA has contacted the new body about setting up a meeting.

Excellent. Well done Dave. I'd implore any of the IASRA members reading this to do the right thing for airsoft and take up the offer of a meeting.

Not the right thing for themselves.
Or the right thing for the IASRA.
Or the right thing for the IAA.
Or the right thing for their businesses.
Or the right thing for players.

But the right thing for airsoft as a whole. Do that and you're automatically doing all the above too.
Otherwise, if this thread is anything to go by, airsoft doesn't deserve to be saved.

they would appear to be postin updates on irishairsoftsports http://irishairsoftsports.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33

So they do intend to be a "rival" organisation.

    That does nobody any good.

We need one unified voice to protect this sport, we have that just about now, we need a choice yes, everyone with 30€ and the ability to fill in a membership form could have nominated a candidate, voted in a candidate, been a candidate.

Most countries have one government, several parties, not several governments.

If these people wanted to help airsoft, joining the IAA and voting, offering alternate stances, joining in full stop, would have helped a hell of a lot more.

Now we look petty, unorganised, and weak.

Next time we have to deal with a minister or the DOJ, we are in a much weaker position to do so.

    Thanks.

Alan has replied to myself about setting up a meeting with the IAA in the new year. Hopefully now we can get some real answers, and talk about things face to face in a civil manner. We'll be publishing notes from any meeting that comes out of this promptly.

I personally don't think this thread serves much more of a purpose, apart from some people to read back on in a few months (or in some people's case, days) time and cringe. Unless the mods feel strongly otherwise, it should probably be closed.

I think that with any new sport, group, team, or organisation there will always be a scramble to be the "main " Rep for the project. It looks like this is what is happening here too. Its normal pratice to have this kind of debate. Think life of Brian, The peoples front of judea and the peoples judean front. SPLITTERS. anyway as far as dealing with any Dept of State you can talk to many of the civil servents working in whatever Dept you like but at the end of the day its the minister who decides policy and they have to deal with it. so in other words you could talk to the most senior member of the DOJ who may say yes but if the minister says no thats it. it wont matter which group is doing the talking.
Also he again stated that there is support ffor banning it on both sides of the Dail. it going to be a uphill clime for airsoft going forward. I think that players will make up there own minds who they want to support them in the end the most poppular body usually wins out. again take a look at boxing too many rep groups but sport is going strong.

I think this is the best thing that could have happened.

Unfortunatly the way i see this panning out is the IARSA, lead by you know who, throwing all there toys out of the pram.

For god sake if you have two groups hounding TD's and DOJ about airsoft all that will happen is they will get tired of all the sh1ite, and repeated arguments, and all they will do is say f|_|ck that and take the easy way and ban the whole sport.

They way i see it is the IAA, have set up a relationship with the DOJ and Ministers, they should be the people in contact with them.It just makes life easier.

If the IARSA go off on there own lines they have hinted at, they will have no support from the average player, Sorry i aint giving you that type of info, im all for advertising the sport, ive had people call to work to ask me about airsoft. But if for my own reasons i dont want a list of my AEG's and other details availible.

I have no problem with a retailers setting up there own assoc. There should be set guideline for reputable airsoft retailers, not so a scumbag can go to EIRSOFT be refused and the to "the other shop" and be accepted. There needs to be clear guidelines for retailing.Maybe they should become the retailers wing of the IAA.In all fairness the IAA cant claim to evenly represent both player and retailer, if they are recieving donations from retailers.(not a jfk theroy, its just common sense)

I hope that the IARSA see sense and join the IAA and change it from the inside.

I have not been a fan of the IAA, that can be seen in past, But i do see a change coming with the new committe.

what IAA have done so far with airsoft they still have not got everybody on board, may be this new association will bring the rest of us on board and if there is enough of us in the 2 groups... most of us been of age to vote and future voters that is always takin in to consideration when the election comes up and lets remined them of this fact. how many of us go out every weekend all over ireland i know that when we go out there as lest 10 of us and we have 30+ members in A.T.F i know this is a inpossible Q but how many members are in IAA and if your not in any association how many of there is of you out there let get the numbers ill go frist there is as i said 30 37 members in our team how many is in your team, this way we will let the govament know how many there dealing with, is it 100 or 1000 of us putting our money down to play this sport every week....
