I scrapped my level 20 character because things were too easy and started all over again with different specializations. I'm having a blast sneaking within range and making a kill with the hunting rifle. Hopefully it'll be more fun this time around since I'm going to be evil (well kinda).

My Fallout 3 decided to martyr itself today, just as I was about to complete the game

I downloaded it off steam and everything was fine. But the game was crashing more and more frequently each week. I was taking my time with the game doing all sidelines. Then I decided to finish it off today, coming up to the last part and it crashed. So I tried to reload it which resulted in an immediate crash. Then I tried other saves and got the same crash. Ended up having to watch all endings on youtube

Regarding the run up to the ending -
I loved the big-f***-off-robot rampage. Thought it was a great addition. Although the ending fmv was disappointing, then again it was almost similar to the previous fallout endings. I just wish there was a bit more info given as to how the brotherhood progressed in the capital wasteland, stuff like that

Wait for the add-on packs early next year, first is set in Anchorge where
Omega Prime (is that his name?) was destined to go, lets hope for more stompy stomp
    and the third one
follows after the end of the main story with you joining the Brotherhood and wiping out the Enclave

It doesn't need them and to be honest, they would probably ruin it. Are the
    super mutant behemoths
    not enough for ya?! :D

with the very pointy exception of the temple of trials.. fo2 will never stop being great.

fo3 aint bad either, but i doubt that ten years from now ill still be enthusiastic about it. looking forward to the dlc though, hopefully they will pull off the lvl 20 cap for the console versions too

In fairness, in a years time, I would say most people would not be playing "vanilla" Fallout 3 but would instead have the game jammed full of mods. Certainly that's the case for Oblivion. I can't speak with authority, but it seemed like Fallout 2 lacked a pervasive mod community.

think it be worth getting for xmas even though i rented it for a week when it came out and finished it??I really only played the main quest though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭c - 13

Well I got about 75 hours play out of it doing all the side quests (which are better than the main one IMHO) and could probably squeeze another 20 hours exploring out of it too. So definitely worth buying in my opinion.

    Oh but what about that
total epic battle with Colonel Autumn at the end of the game, it took me 2 shots to kill him! :D

Or if you took the other option -
very quickly get him to change his mind and leave

fallout 1 and two both have extensive mods and a large community actually. just skim through duck and cove or no mutants allowed forums.

there are mods still coming out all the time and this is for a ten year old game!

Ah yes, No Mutants Allowed. I skimmed through the NMA forums looking for some answers to modding questions but am only now beginning to reclaim my belief in humanity. I knew Fallout 1/2 fans might have been a bit rabid about Bethesda's work, but they're openly jumping on & being plain aggressive with modders who dare to make mods that aren't "lore friendly" or non-canon.

Fanboyism boggles the mind sometimes & frankly, it's hard to retionalise the .. "enthusiasm" against what was, to my mind, a good game (Fallout 2), but that's about it.

NMA has one of the most hardcore gaming communities around. I think some of those guys play Fallout every hour they are awake.

Still playing this and I got it a week after it came out.

Exploring is so rewarding, even if its just to get the unique weapons and gear, the DLC will hopefully make it worthwhile.

Hilariously, I had 5 followers the other day
Sydney, fawkes, paladin cross and the two kids from bigtown, having the kids in enclave power armor was hilarious, nothing like a small army to slaughter everything in the wasteland.

CHANCE OF MISSION OBSTRUCTION....ZERO PERCENT *BOOOM*

Haven't gone back through the whole thread, sorry, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced glitches in the PS3 version.

On two separate occasions the game has 'crashed' on me while in the Citadel with the Brotherhood of Steel. I can approach characters but then I'm just frozen on the spot. I can hunch down but no other controls or buttons will work.

The first time I fixed it by going back to a save game just a little bit back in time, so to speak, but the one that I'm suffering at the moment means I'd have to go back to ages and do stuff again I don't wanna!

Anyone experienced this or got any hints?

Can you save at that moment and then reload that save? Might free you up?

Not sure how the saving works on the consoles.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 148 ✭✭landmonster

I went back to the old save (read somewhere it's a good idea to save lots, as opposed to the autosave), went into the Citadel to get the rest of the mission and the same thing happens.

So I figure I've got to play the whole game again to continue the main mission. What a pain in the arse.

They're releasing patch to fix these issues. Not sure when though.

I think this is a known issue on the PS3 version you need to turn off messenger and notifications is your system settings.

To be honest, bar inferior PCs, I dont know how people would preference playing this game on a console because the dozens (hundreds) of mods to become available by the GECK are just going to pass them by.

The best of them will become available through DLC. Also some people (like me increasingly lately) flat out prefer to sit in front of a 40" screen on their couch and play away.

But the Console vs PC debate is for another thread for day.
