I got Spore off both TheHut and Play. Both shipped the afternoon of the release Friday. The one from The Hut arrived the following Tuesday. The one from Play arrived a week later. Don't hold your breath.

Yeah, I get that; it has been a while since I ordered from play so can't recall how good / bad they were with deliveries. Guess I'll play the waiting game. That or copious amounts of TF2 - the great panacea :D

Playin this at the moment and don't know what to make of it yet, not that far in2 it so too early to judge. I wasn't a fan of Oblivion, 2 much dialog, this appears very similar. Graphics are very good, what I expected as Oblivion was beautiful, runs very well also, as its only directX 9, I can enable 4x AA @ 1920x1200 and still get great framerates.

    Some screenies

How does the KB and mouse targeting feel compared to Elder Scrolls?

Also you seem to have come to the magical conclusion that because i don't buy many new games i'm just avoiding them, well done.

    Yes..........and?

What do you define as "avoid", if you don't buy many games would it be not fair to say you are "staying clear", "keeping away from" or "refraining from" buying new games i.e. avoiding them

    What dictionary are you using?

However what i said is that i don't buy alot of games, because i have fairly high standards and specific tastes.

Fair enough, so what specifically about Fallout 3 is not to your standards or tastes?
You're mistake is assuming that's a bad thing. Why is Fallout 3 exempt from comparisons to previous games in the series? More to the point why is it an automatic leap to "HURR DURR YOU'RE A FANBOY" when people decide that they don't like the direction that the game has taken.
I'm calling bullshit. Not liking fallout 3 because it's essentially oblivion 1.5 and that's not what you wanted to play is perfectly valid.

Your mistake is thinking its not a bad thing. Never called you a fan boy.

So for clarity sake what's your problem with Fallout 3, the fact it is below your standards or that it took a series you liked in a direction you didn't like, or both?

Which brings me back to my first point. If its not up to your standards, I can dig it, that's fine. Personal preference and all that sh1te

If you don't like a game because it isn't what you expected then you've only yourself to blame as they were your expectations after all, hardly any reflection on the quality (or lack of) of the game, its sailing a bit too close to spoiled child imho.

Much the same, I had a run-in with a guard and had to use the baseball bat to hit him, It felt similar to oblivion where I had no idea if I was hitting him or not.

Playing this today. VATS is...interesting. It does try to behave in a turn-basedy way but it's decidedly not turn-based. It's also more accurate than real-time but considering combat is stats based that's hardly surprising.

The voice-acting isn't quite as bad as I'd feared but I'm not that far in so it remains to be seen if it goes downhill.
Dialogue isn't bad but again, I'll wait until I get further in to see if it devolves into the usual "Mudcrabs" "Terrible creatures" "Bye".

    I'm enjoying.

What timeline is it set in?

I assume before fallout 2 due to the enclave still transmitting.

Ok, Maybe I expected too much, I'm not a fan of RPG's, I hated Oblivion and this is just as annoying. I thought I might get to like this as its guns but its not growing on me, I've uninstalled already. Anyone who disliked Oblivion will hate this. Dialog just does my head in, actually gave me a headache, gimme some action please.

    infuriates me.

Meh it divides the PC community i can see views of both sides Pog will argue that because their is no demo he had no way of finding it if he would of enjoyed it without spending 50 quid. Those who do enjoy it though should morally be obliged to buy the game though.

I have only one question - who uninstalls games on such a whim? Sure if you're running out of HDD space, but I don't see the point in uninstalling a game, even if you're not 100% sold on it, or don't play it often.

I have 2 gaming pc's, its still installed on the other and my son is engrossed, I just wiped it cos I kno I'll never play it. This pc is also my media server and needs the space.

I didn't talk bad about it, I just said i didn't like it, Its just my own opinion. In fact I did say it was very good graphically earlier in the thread and that it ran very well.
What do you want? fake reviews?

BTW, my son's giving it a big thumbs up, he liked Oblivion and absolutely loves this

lol, so you where trying to goad people into saying that they're a pirate? What a pointless endeavor and to what end? Where you going to give them a virtual slap on the wrist?

@Pog: Crap, I installed this from work on my home PC. I've a feeling I'll be uninstalling it though the same as you. I just couldn't get into Oblivion at all (foolishly trying to like it after hating Morrowind). I'd hoped this one would go easy on the RPG and heavy on the FPS :( I don't mind leveling, exploring and questing, It's the lengthy dialogue sequences that get to me.

It should be a case of:

Me: "Have you seen my Father?"
    Stranger: "No"
Prompt: *Please choose how you wish to kill this person*

    :D

No, i don't want you to say anything, your not entitled to comment on something you stole

Your pushing the thread off topic, this threads about Fallout 3, not piracy.

Well i didn't steal it. I already paid for my license.

I'm enjoying it so far though i did enjoy oblivion bar the scaling monsters. Infact i installed it this morning and have done nothing since. I was a big fallout fan so am really enjoying this.
I nuked a Giant Super Mutant. This thing was huge. Tactical Nuke like out of starship troopers and the monster was down!

That stupid scaling thing in oblivion totally ruined that game for me. Where was the reward??

Same with mass effect. Depending on your level youd find the same sort of guns.

Has fallout 3 got the proper rpg style where in some areas you know the enemies and weapons are way above your level so you could train level up and go back there and wipe them out??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

From my understanding of the reviews, they improved vastly upon the leveling system. Some items you won't be able to use until you're a higher level if you find them.

so far it seems that way.

The further you advance the different types of enemies you meet. Also their weapons improve from ****ty mad max gear to futuristic military weapons.

is it just me or is there terrible mouse lag on the title screens

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,408 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I'm playing it at the moment, and i'm really enjoying it. Now i enjoyed Oblivion (amagad!!), and i dont think its that similar. It feels more like a mix of Stalker, Oblivion and Hellgate London. The graphics are great, even on my below par system. The landscape has a proper 'post-apocylictic' feel to it. Not too sure about VATS though, as it can make it quite easy, but it is kinda satisfying to blow some zombies head in mid air.

About 5 hours in now, and its still going strong.

disable vsync. You might have to go into your graphics cards control panel and force a disable of it.

I'm really loving it so far. The character creation process is brilliant, although I'm wondering if there's a way of cutting it short if I'm going to replay it at a later date.

As Kiith says, it's not too similar to Oblivion, so those who are avoiding the game for that reason will be missing out. It looks great and plays pretty well, but I'm not too far into it to find out if it keeps it up.

My only problem with it so far is that it doesn't have the humour of the original games. This might come up later in the game, and there are a few proper Fallout moments (
the G.O.A.T. test was pretty funny, especially question 10 :D, and the fact that I'm going through the desert in a suit gives it that odd funny Fallout feeling
    .

Actually, another problem, which is prevelant in pretty much every RPG, is that NPC's don't react to things around them unless it's scripted for them to. And example is at one point I was in a gunfight in a building (I won't spoil it with details) and there were a few NPC's standing near by. None of them reacted to the fact that I jsut decapitated a guy right in front of them. As I said, it happens in pretty much all RPG's, but it'd of been nice to have people even say one line of dialogue about it.

Yeah i know what you mean but there is some good little humour parts in it like Super Mutants talking to each other.

    Also there is
vault 112 where you use a seat to put you in a monochrome virtual reality of america.

Here we go, the s*** hits the fan. Vegeta, m8. Heres your answer! We did not whanted "oblivion 40k" with fallout tag on it.

And all what we whanted, was to have fallout! And they needed to go same way fallout did go, not the way Oblivion went.

Now i checked a few reviews on internet. But i dont believe all they say, i just watch actuall gameplay. And it is really really crapy looking. Animation looks terrible, like it did looked at oblivion. Everybody stiff like on viagra.

And vegeta, you did not answered, did you actually played fallout2 back in day?

Bethesda, just buys NAMES and makes clones of same game, using same engine. They just should not have touched fallout name. If you can't make it right, dont do it at all.

I can bet they will buy anather known name and will use same crapy oblivion style/engine for it. They dont have ideas of their own, so they just waste good names.

From a perusal of the NMA forums it appears someone found
a set of T-51b power armour
. Doesn't look good at all. The proportions are wrong but perhaps the fact that it's even in the game means that modders can do something about it later.
