So if this game was called "Jimmy's little Adventure" would you think of it as a potential purchase or is it just because it has deviated from Fallout 2 that you don't like it?

Personally I avoid all gaming media these days as its complete lies and full of sh1t, I see from a thread here that fable 2 got a 10/10 review for fcuk sake. The game is far from perfect, stupid loading times alone = not a 10 game.

So if you think that Fallout 3 (of which I have seen one game play clip, downloaded from xbox live) is a bad game that's fair enough, if you're not buying it because some older game was better, well then you must not buy many games at all.

    my 2 cents

I am not buying it now, becouse its not what i expected. And dont need to explain me about marketing. You wount call sandwitch - stinky pile of poo,by trying to sell more of it. So your comment about name is usless m8. Its just anather game that borrows name. Atleast here they try to make sequal.

Look at far cry 2, what does it have to do with original? Nothing at all. they just gave a known name to sell more copies.

Now example specially for you, when you sow some good movie, you were really looking forward for "X movie" 2. But we know from experiense, moust second parts are just pure crap.

Now fallout 3 is not pure crap, hopefully, but its not what moust people expected. And now, just a question to you, did you played fallout 2 when it was launced back in the day?

There's no way in hell though this kind of arguement would be happening if the game wasn't called "Fallout 3". Not a chance. Oblivion fans would have got excited, it would have sold itself a fair few copies & the world would have carried on its way. Instead you got argy bargies about "standards"

Look, don't get me wrong, I got worried about the announcement of Deus Ex 3 & I know what it feels like to have a sequel poop all over the legacy of former glories, but in the defence of Fallout 3, it's a legitimate distanced departure from the previous 2 games. What's wrong with doing something a little new anyway? Did "Fallout Tactics" engender the same ire in its day? Sure it wasn't a "good" game, but is that the point?

Bethesda are in a no-win situation, creatively speaking. They could have made a carbon-copy sequel, even down to the old-school graphics & yet still people wouldn't be happy

I'm sure the DEVs of Fallout 2 would have loved to be able to make a fallout game like Bethesda are doing/have done.

Well Black Isle did start on a third fallout game codenamed Van Buren before interplay decided to shitcan it.

Probably because interplay were staffed and run by lunatics.

Allegedly. I have no idea how legit that video actually is. Though it looks kinda like a few of the stills that got released.

Sequels are judged based on how they differ and improve on their predecessors. I don't know whatyou're trying to say here, that the previous games don't matter, or is there something else? If the games don't matter why not do a bioshock and rebrand it entirely and if they do then people can judge it based on how it measures up to the last game in the series.

fair enough if you buy games based on their prequels, me I just buy them if I like them, regardless if a previous game had a similar name or theme
And yeah, i don't buy very many games, i've been playing for long enough to not be as easilly impressed. And i see how you're trying to imply it's some kind of bad thing, but really?
Last i heard having standards was a pretty good thing.

Yeah because I am mister happy go lucky who buys every game that comes out.

Not being easily impressed and avoiding new titles because there are older, better games in a series/style are 2 completely different things.

The former is fine, I am overly critical at the best of times, its in my nature to do so. So as I said if you think Fallout 3 is a bad game because the controls are bad, stlye is poor, terrible production quality, crap storyline, annoying characters etc etc that's fine.

The latter sounds very like what the musician said above
"they dared touch our sacred ground and didn't get it 100% right so I 'aint touching it"

So has anyone played this yet? Might give it a go tonight as Far Cry 2 is becoming a struggle to even start up.

Also you seem to have come to the magical conclusion that because i don't buy many new games i'm just avoiding them, well done.
However what i said is that i don't buy alot of games, because i have fairly high standards and specific tastes.

You're mistake is assuming that's a bad thing. Why is Fallout 3 exempt from comparisons to previous games in the series? More to the point why is it an automatic leap to "HURR DURR YOU'RE A FANBOY" when people decide that they don't like the direction that the game has taken.
I'm calling bullshit. Not liking fallout 3 because it's essentially oblivion 1.5 and that's not what you wanted to play is perfectly valid.

So how did you come to buy Fallout in the first place? The reviews for it whilst good fell short of the reviews for Fallout 3.
How do you know a game is good until you play it?

Well, it really helped that Fallout 3 hadn't been announced all those years ago. Seriously though, what are you blithering about?

And to take your second question, it's fairly easy.
Let me make it simple. How do you know that the next Adam sandler film will be an unmerciful heap of ****? That's becuase having sat through one of his pervious films and having looked at the trailer of the next one, i can see it'll be more of the same.

Don't give me this "you won't know until you play" bullshit, people make these choices about games all the time. People discount games because they read about it, see who the developer is, they don't like the style of game, they're mate told them it was rubbish, EG gave it 10/10, whatever. Nobody kicks off untill it's something like fallout 3 and then it's all "Ohh you're a fanboy".

Why not just release the game with two different box covers?

One called "Fallout 3", and one called "Oblivion with Guns".

Then those who object to it being related to Fallout 1/2 can buy "Oblivion with Guns", without compromising their integrity.

And people who didn't like Oblivion can buy "Fallout 3".

    Problem solved.

You're missing out the third box cover that's called "Nothing To Do With Fallout or Oblivion", just to make sure they cover everyone.

Well whatever, it's in the post right about now whizzing it's way from play.com. Fúck the recession, I aim to spend a lot in November!

Can we agree from here on in to simply talk about the game as it's now released (sorta), as it's 19 pages in & we have barely touched the actual playing of the damn thing.

    you're awful at this.

Perhaps an overlong title but "Don't play if you suspect it is nothing like the original Fallouts based on 2 or 3 80% reviews" may be appropriate too. I understand if people don't want to play it if it doesn't live up to the previous Fallout games as that is what they wanted/hoped for but of the people here who have decided to give it a miss what has convinced you that it doesn't? I would genuinely like to see the review or comment that is so indisputable it has made your mind up.

Its clear the guy had his mind made up from the day it Bethesda were announced as buying the license. Certainly the biggest fanboy I've ever met online.

I'm with pixelburp, can we bin this rubbish about reviews and fanboys, its getting old! If you don't want to play/read about fallout 3 then just get the feck out of this thread and let the debate about playing the actual game begin.

    Bring on friday!

Well I got involved in the arguement, but it's a totally circular one at this stage & serves nothing

Anyone known how long play.com takes to delivery to Ireland these days? It posted my copy yesterday so hope I'm not waiting over the course of the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,385 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Man I think your looking at Tuesday or Wed to be honest. Defo not before the weekend. It has to go through England first I believe.

Bad idea to order it online. You will have only saved about €4 and have a weekend of torment ahead of you.

True. Gamesnash might be different but i might just go to Dundrum on friday. I don't mind paying a bit extra to get the weekend into my fallout schedule.

I got Spore off both TheHut and Play. Both shipped the afternoon of the release Friday. The one from The Hut arrived the following Tuesday. The one from Play arrived a week later. Don't hold your breath.

European release date is 31/10 - this Friday. I'd imagine you'll be able to get your hands on it during the day in shops. If you're too lazy for that, there's always steam where it's released at 6pm Friday (curse releases being done on pacific standard time :?)

Playin this at the moment and don't know what to make of it yet, not that far in2 it so too early to judge. I wasn't a fan of Oblivion, 2 much dialog, this appears very similar. Graphics are very good, what I expected as Oblivion was beautiful, runs very well also, as its only directX 9, I can enable 4x AA @ 1920x1200 and still get great framerates.

    Some screenies
