I never said the average was 80%, I said its rare that EG give a score ABOVE the average.

Please read the post properly before replying.
You called it an 8/10 game and seem only to concentrate on the 3 reviews that give it this score.
    let alone 8/10!

Anyway, i sow one review made by a just gamer. Non magazine/website review. Which was really good. And unfortunatly he said, what i was affraid of...

Fallout 3 = If you are a fan of oblivion, you will love fallout 3.

They blew it... I knew they wount come even near fallout 2 perfection... I was really looking forward of getting this one, but now i have doubt. i think ill grab Red alert 3 first on friday, and i will wait untill fallout 3 will drop price :(

Btw interplay still got rights to make fallout mmorpg. So there is still a hope lads!

Has anybody played the actual Fallout 3 as it was intended? It wouldn't work on my machine but it wasn't too far off being finished supposedly.

ok ok, i don't want to off-topic on this but all i was saying that the scores aren't universally outstanding. I'm hoping that more 9/10 and 10/10s appear. I didn't say it was an 8/10 game, I'm hoping that its not.

I was making a separate point about EG. It is unusual for them to be the top-scorers on a metacritic list.

Anyway, we'll all fans here right? :) I'll be buying it regardless of the scores.

Yes but there are "fans", and then there are "fans". If you get what I mean.

Oh the horror NMA would infest every server and demand you to leave if you didnt have their stupid views. Fallout mmorpg would be a waste anyway the game is supposed to after a nuclear holocaust how that has can tie into MASSIVE MULITPLAYER would be beyond me.

Seems to me that the only issue is just how good it is. Is it awesome, brilliant or just very good? That's a debate I'm not really interested in; I'm really looking forward to playing this in a few days time.

Have you played Fallout 2 ? It is a savage game, vanilla has its bugs like every other game but the mods are brilliant !

I knew it'd be Oblivion set in a different world with guns ! Oblivion was a good game but had its really annoying problems, hardware compatibility issues, terrible leveling system, horrible variation in voice acting and predictable NPC routes etc So I'm hoping they've at least sorted those problems when it comes to Fallout 3

Wow, friday can't come quickly enough. I was even thinking of blowing off a halloween party for this, how sad am I? :pac:

I'm still unsure on prices for the PC version. Play.com seems to be cheapest, but that means I can forget the weekend and wait a while, which is a no-no! Steam is a 15 euro premium for a weekend of gaming, worth it? But even then I can't activate it until friday evening. Direct2drive is 38 euro if i live in the UK, but bizzarely is 44 euro if you live elsewhere in europe (a strange internet shipping cost maybe?).

I'm thinking I might chance dundrum on friday and see if I can get it cheap in Zaavi or maybe be swayed by any stray collectors editions hanging around.

Anyone wanna offer an opinion and cure me of my indecision???

I guess that must be it. Nuts anyway! I don't get why if I buy goods from an internet company based outside of ireland do i pay irish taxes tho, but I guess thats for another forum!

Just read the IGN UK review. Sounds exactly like Oblivion with guns.

I guess a lot of people here won't be happy.

    *shakes head*

Fallout 2 is still one of the best RPG's ever made, i have no idea why you'd put that in quotes unless you're actually insane.

Not regular pants-on-head-insanity but actually not on the same plane of reality as the rest of us insane.

Uh, we're here because I called a person who dismisses a game because it isn't 100% like their idol & haven't actually played the new game a "fanboy". I have no quarrel or disagreement with those who say Fallout 2 is the dog's bollix, just those who are dismissing Fallout 3 because it doesn't meet some ambiguous level of greatness that they demand.

    Doesn't everybody do that?
Everybody has expectations of any game with this amount of hype, some people will be happy with what Fallout 3 is, and for others it's not going to fit what they wanted. It's hardly unfair for someone after reading a few reviews all of which pretty much say It's oblivion with guns to go "well fuck this bullshit".

I'm not impressed with how Fallout 3 has panned out, and i have no intention of picking it up until it's bargin bin fodder. It doesn't mean i'm a 'fanboy', it means i just don't think fallout3 has delivered what i want from a fallout game.

IGN PC Video review opening line - "This is not Oblivion with guns!". Who knows? Some people have been waiting in the corner to pounce with the "Ha knew you wouldn't live up our expectations. So there!". Either way the impression I got from reading the PC Gamer review is that it will definitely split opinion down the middle. I expect to love it.

M8, thank you. When they just give us an average game with legend title name, like fallout, we just have to bend over and take it in?

You can call me a fan boy, but fallout 2 is still the best rpg i played. And it made a such huge standart, that this fallout 3 looks like average oblivion in the future...

And yes, ill wait for bargain bin on this one aswell. And i still dont understand why oblivion have such good reviews. its not an rpg, its an advanture game.Lvling in oblivion usless, becouse every sewer rat will be same lvl as you... Oh boy... Some poeple should play old school RPGs, proper RPGs. Then they will understand why "older" gamers hate such oblivon/oblivion clones.

Mods fixed the Oblivion levelling, as has been mentioned a thousand times already. In fact, I have not played Vanilla oblivion pretty much since installing the game for the first time all those moons ago.

So if this game was called "Jimmy's little Adventure" would you think of it as a potential purchase or is it just because it has deviated from Fallout 2 that you don't like it?

Personally I avoid all gaming media these days as its complete lies and full of sh1t, I see from a thread here that fable 2 got a 10/10 review for fcuk sake. The game is far from perfect, stupid loading times alone = not a 10 game.

So if you think that Fallout 3 (of which I have seen one game play clip, downloaded from xbox live) is a bad game that's fair enough, if you're not buying it because some older game was better, well then you must not buy many games at all.

    my 2 cents

I never read games reviews. (I know myself if I like it or not)
    I've never played Oblivion.
    I love the fallout setting.

I'm in for a treat on Friday :D

A lot of guns in that clip :)

Perhaps we should repeat for those of the hard of reading. Most people agree that the leveling in Oblivion was bad, some of us enjoyed the game despite this, some didn't. Fallout 3 does not have the same kind of leveling. I suspect there might be a few games out there that while admittedly don't use the fallout name might claim to be an rpg and also might not be as good as fallout 1/2 in the eyes of the nostalgic here but they may also be enjoyable games. Theres a whiff of "they dared touch our sacred ground and didn't get it 100% right so I 'aint touching it" to this.

Sequels are judged based on how they differ and improve on their predecessors. I don't know whatyou're trying to say here, that the previous games don't matter, or is there something else? If the games don't matter why not do a bioshock and rebrand it entirely and if they do then people can judge it based on how it measures up to the last game in the series.

And yeah, i don't buy very many games, i've been playing for long enough to not be as easilly impressed. And i see how you're trying to imply it's some kind of bad thing, but really?
Last i heard having standards was a pretty good thing.
