I think this may be my biggest pet hate. It REALLY F&*king annoys me. I see it happen at least once a day while driving. If I see it that often I can only imagine how many people actually do it. What the hell is the ashtray for in cars anyway? Loose change? How many of you smokers do this and do you have a reason in your head why you think it's ok?

I do it, why stink your car out with old cig butts?

Do they have ash-trays in any new cars anymore?

I usually flick 'em at passing petrol-tankers, or when I'm driving past a tinder-dry forested area, cause I like arson about.

But that was before that Lenihan guy put 'em up 50 cent. Sob......

    +1.

    I detest it, scumbags mostly.

I've a work mate who came in one day complaining that she'd received a fine for doing it, bitching like it was someone else's fault SHE was caught.

    Fvcking filthy disgusting habit.

**I was getting into a taxi in town recently, when I was getting in I noticed the driver fvck a cig out the window, the smell in the car was disgusting. I should have reported the fvcker for it but didn't (so I'm complaining about him to boards).

I drive a motorbike as do many other road users, and a lot of us drive (from time to time) with an open face plate - a few times cigarettes have nearly gone into my helmet - if that was to occur, the owner of said cigarette butt would be missing a mirror off their car a few seconds later.
so to answer your question, you would either "stink your car out" because (a) it's your filthy habit, why should the environment have to suffer (b) It could be dangerous to a biker (c) in case of something with point b, you car mirrors (or other car parts) could be forfeit depending on the biker who you hit (d) littering is illegal, throwing a butt out the window is littering, hence throwing a butt out your window is illegal.

Try working in a petrol station.

The amount of people I saw flicking cigarettes at the pumps!

One landed at my feet! When I shouted at the guy, his face turned white, he had no idea what he was doing.

once a car behind me flashed me for flicking my fag butt out the window,
so i lit up another one straight away and made the best attempt i could
to bounce that one off his windshield when finshed.

It's harldy an eco complaint. Just manners really not to flick a lit cigarette out a window with no regard for where or who it could hit. Like what if I'm wearing my brand new pair of Diesel jeans - they'd go up in a shot!!!!!

It's cool to smoke and even cooler to flick the butt out the window, so there!

Why smoke if you don't like the smell? For some bizarre reason, lots of smokers who would not normally litter feel that cigarette butts are in some way exempt - that throwing your cigarette butt out the window or on the pavement doesn't count as litter. I am not anti smoking, i smoked for 15 years and still smoke a spliff. But litter is litter.

Wow that's amazingly sound of you - I hate it when people call me on something irresponsible and ignorant that I have done too! Best way is to get back at them for trying to make you feel like the douche they think you are, as soon as humanly possible -especially good if done in a stupid and illegal fashion that shows how manly you are!

It was always fun, being followed by some guy in a convertible, flicking the butt out of the window and watching his gelled hair explode in my rear-view mirror, before he careered up an embankment and disappeared in a cloud of smoke and flames.

That Lenihan guy really screwed up my motoring fun.

I do use my ashtray for loose change actually. It's handy.

I reckon it's a lot safer throwing em out the window.. The ashtray is on my left hand side in an awkward spot, so trying to put out a cigarette in there would be a nightmare and probably end up with me swerving all over the road. Plus, all me loose change would be smelly and covered in ashes.

They'll probably end up banning smoking while driving anyway, as it probably is fairly dangerous.

How dare they? How F*cking Dare They!!!!!!!?????????

HOW F*CKING DARE THOSE B*STARDS EVEN THINK ABOUT FLASHING THEIR LIGHTS AT YOU FOR LITTERING!!!!

I hope you gave them more than another cigarette out the window. I hope you slammed on the brakes, got out and used something large, blunt and heavy to smash the sh*t out of their miserable excuse for a car. Those hippie commie nazi bastards.

I've gotten out of the habit of doing this recently. But sheesh, I had no idea people's vaginas could get so sandy over it...

I don't think smoking in cars should be banned myself - I don't care WHAT people do in their cars, as long as it doesn't interfere with their driving.. But littering in a way that can be dangerous for me on the road (cigarette butt inside helmet in the face) is a factor... if you have issues being unable to put a cigarette out in your ashtray, then maybe YOU shouldn't drive and smoke - don't see what other car driving smokers should be affected by a law, when they are happy to use the ash tray provided in the vehicle. Personally I find my trouser pockets a good place for change as opposed to throwing them out of a moving vehicle..

Yeah exactly, what sad patethic bastard flashes his lights at someone for throwing a fag out the window? What ****in business is it of theirs?

Common misconception there. If they were Petrol, yes, but not Diesel :D

    Call Anti Litter Hotline

    Freefone 1800 201093

Give them the reg plate number. They send out a fine automatically.

If the fine isn't paid their ma gets thrown out the window of a moving car. :P

Yep I hate that too. Plus whatever about looking messy the butts aren't biodegradeable and carry a load of toxins that end up being washed into shores and from there into the water table.

Tbh it's just laziness to drop them.

the main reason has nothing to do with the environment. It's just plain disgusting, ignorant and shows very little regard on the part of the smoker to those around them. Would any of you smokers feel ok about throwing a burger wrapper or the cigarette box out the window?

I do think though that a lot of smokers just don't see it as littering. Like they have some divine right to throw their butts on the ground because they are afflicted with a decease and shouldn't be held accountable for anything they do because of said disease. Kind of like the druggies who use their addiction as an excuse for being scum, or the alcoholics who use their addiction as an excuse for beating the wife or crashing their car into someone while drunk.
