Hey, i just need some advice regarding what to do with my Iphone.

Last night, I updated from unlocked 1.1.4 to unlocked 2.0.1. Now since moving to 2.0.1 I have noticed it is very laggy and takes much longer to respond to commands, type etc.

Now what I'm wondering is will upgrading to 2.0.2 improve all of this? Or would I be better off downgrading to 1.1.4 again?

Is it possible to jailbreak on 2.0.2 yet? Are there any apps yet for transferring contacts from the sim to the phone? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

2.02 can be be jailbroken and unlocked but it has not fixed the buggy laggy crappy response

It might be slightly better but very slightly

rebooting the phone seems to help

sim contacts is in settings now from 2.0

    Say If I bought a 16GB 3G Iphone tomorrow..If I unlocked it (1) Could I use it on Meteor.
(2)Would they charge the same as O2 for internet etc
(3)Would I have to have a contract with Meteor

    no unlock yet

    so no no and no

There are sim card solutions but they are unreliable and don't allow data so are pretty useless

Downloaded winpwn 2.5 beta and followed the guide here. At the point where it looks for the .ipsw file it says the file has an invalid hash and do I want to search for another file. I have the bootloader files too.
    What am I doing wrong?

Re-download the ipsw, sounds like it's corrupt. And make sure you are downloading the correct 2.0.x file (there is one for iphone and one for ipod touch).

I downloaded the file from the apple website, it's definetly the iphone ipsw file

Have you downloaded it again since? You first try might have been corrupt or else maybe there is an error on your hard disk. Try a chkdsk and re-download.

Do you have any other ipsw files on the PC? Maybe it is picking up an older one first when searching or something silly like that?

I was upgrading my 1st gen from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 and could not get the old style pwnage to work (where you make the custom firmware). In the end I had to just restore with the official 2.0.2 image and then use the quickpwn option from winpwn. I had no problems doing it that way.

The iphone that I'm trying to upgrade to my gf's. I have the 3G model on bill pay. I know I probably should have mentioned that first but would that have anything to do with the problem? I've even used the .ipsw file that was used to upgrade my iphone to 2.0.2 and winpwn is still saying invalid hash.

The firmware used to upgrade a 3G iPhone is NOT the same as the firmware used to upgrade a First Gen iPhone.

The filename for the firmware to upgrade a 3G iPhone is 'iPhone1,2_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw' whereas the filename for a First Gen iPhone is 'iPhone1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw' - notice the difference in the version at the start (iPhone 1,2 for 3G / iPhone 1,1 for First Gen).

is there a different .ipsw file if I do it through a MacBook?

Nope.. the .ipsw file is for the iPhone OS (and isn't related to the OS you're on).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Stephen P

OK I'm trying to do it on a macbook now. I downloaded the ipsw file. When I downloaded the file there's 3 files with a file extension .dmg, I'm not too sure of a mac's OS, its my gf's and I'm used to PC's. When I open the largest of the .dmg files its looking for a password to access it, where would I get the password from?

Edit: found out I have to rename the download from .zip to .ipsw

Now I can't seem to find the proper version of winpwn or quickpwn for a mac's OS that will upgrade the iphone to 2.0.2. Got a links basq?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Stephen P

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've downloaded all the correct files & programs and when I run winpwn on mac and at the step where it looks for the .ipsw file it says it's the wrong one. I can't see where I'm going wrong. I have all the correct files

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,024 ✭✭✭greglo23

winpwn wont work on the mac. go here http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ and scroll to the bottom where you will find 4 mirrors for pawnage 2.0.2 for the mac.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Stephen P

sorry it is actually pwnage that I'm using

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,024 ✭✭✭greglo23

its recommended to download the ipsw file with firefox because safari unpacks the file and makes it unusable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Stephen P

Would the upgrade work if I connected the iphone and restored the phone and then used pwnage? I can't seem to install firefox, I'm getting a "codec overrun" error when I try to install it

in Safari preferences go to General tab and uncheck open safe files after download. this should stop the unzip feature after downloading the ipsw files. right click on the file and select get info, then delete the .zip bit on the end of the filename leaving .ipsw and bobs your uncle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Stephen P

I've done that, and placed the .ipsw file in library/itunes/ipod software updates folder. Where should I place the bootloader files and the pwnage file? Does it matter where these files are placed?

http://www.modmyifone.com/wiki/index.php/Pwnage_2.0_Guide. heres a full guide to using the pawnage tool on mac. its very important to create a new folder on the desktop and put the requisite files into it so the pawnage tool works properly.

Makes no difference really. It's easy to upgrade (or rollback if needs be).

No official apps are available for anything under firmware 2.0 (as in you need firmware 2.0 to download from AppStore). But on the flip-side, there's no Installer available for firmware 2.0 as of yet (but should be available shortly) so there's a distinct lack of 3rd party apps for firmware 2.0 (besides a Quake port, Pacman port etc).

Not specifically.. but it's worth mentioning there is still no way to currently unlock 3G iPhones so if you do buy one, you'll essentially have a nice fancy iPod Touch until that is addressed (and it's inevitable).

    Lads,

Is it still the case that you need firmware 2.0 to use the apple apps store?

    I've a 1.1.2 phone jailbreak/unlocked to 1.1.3. I'm reluctant to change firmware because
    1. It works grand on 1.1.3 and perfectly set up (hate to have to put contacts back on and all that).
    2. Have Touchpad Pro installed on her and its the one application that I love
    3. I'd probably make a b$lls of it unless fairly straight forward.

But...........at the same time would be

    1. Nice to get my hands on some of those apps
    2. Probably something equivalent to touchpad pro available any how
    3. At this stage probably fairly straight forward to upgrade frimware

    Any recomendations/is it worthwhile?
WHat tutorial is best to use (iclarrified?)

    Thanks.

EDIT: Looks like there is an equivalent on apple apps for touchpad (Jadu VNC)...$20

Hey I have an original iPhone currently running 1.1.2. I'm wondering is there any way of updating to the latest version 2.0 ? If so are there any useful guides out there?
    Cheers.

With regard the contacts, Using the pwanage tool on mac it should back them all up along with text messages and that. So when you update they will still be there.

    Hey guys

I got an iphone during the summer there secondhand from America.
Now what happening is the screen start to be unresponsive to my finger.
All along the bottom, I tried that general. fix and I brought up the sensitivity and it worked for a while but its just getting worse now. I thought it also might be the ribbon cable inside connected to the LCD screen but no joy.
Its affecting the keypad buttons now so it looks like I’m going to have to get another screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions or mainly can someone tell me where I can pick up a LCD screen in Dublin?

    Thanks
