First Gen iPhone Unlock / Sourcing (non subs) [Post these questions here *ONLY* !!!]

Has anyone expericened any issues with syncing if they dont upgrade to 2.1?

I get the message in itunes asking if i want to upgrade which i got cancel cause im guessing that will lock my iphone again, but then when i go to sync my iphone after adding new music i doesnt sync.

i get the first message saying syncing music then it just stops and the iphone goes back to the main screen without updating anything

ive re-installed itunes but still the same, can anyone tell me whats wrong or what im doing wrong?

Only time I've got that is when try to sync too much data to the iphone (i.e. synching greater than 8GB capacity of the iphone)...probably too simple...

BTW you can go from a pwned 2.02 to 2.1 via itunes as long as you update not restore and it will remain unlocked and activated did it myself when 2.1 was released before pwnage was updated

Will this work from 2.0.1 (5B108) to 2.1 ?

it worked from 2.01 to 2.02 so it should do but the phone has to be pwned ie pineapple logo

You lose cydia and installer though

Ive got loads of room on it according to itunes and was only trying to put on 1 album. Ive to tried googling the problem but i cant seem to find the answer

how are people finding 2.1 on the 2G phone. I found 2.0.2 very sluggish. Any improvements in 2.1??

Agreed, response speed is back to 1.1.4 levels. I like it.

out of curiosity, is there a faster chip in the 3G version, or have they just released the same phone with added functionality like 3G , GPS etc??

Will I loose the applications I have installed with Cydia ?

yes you will but there is an app in cydia called (apt back up) I think and it will back up the list of cydia installed apps and if you use the new winpwn which is very easy, then you can reinstall your apps with apt back up.

you can back them up with itunes and then when you update itunes will ask if you want to sync with the backup you have created, just make sure that when when you are backing up that you have the contacts backup option ticked in itunes!

well upgraded to 2.1 last night using quickpwn (Win). great little tool it has to be said

2.1 runs just as smooth as 1.1.4 did, never doubted ye lads!!

Quick question... If I send my iphone off for repair under warranty and they send back a new 2g iphone can it still be unlocked??

Any shops in Dublin that can jailbreak and activate iPhones?

The iPhone that I have was working perfectly well with a meteor sim card. It was reset by mistake and now cant get it back to the way it was. Tried using ZiPhone 3 and iBrickr, both dont work. I can restore it using iTunes and then when I put the Meteor sim in it iTunes says I need to have a proper sim.

Any ideas?

Yes. Do backup in iTunes. Use winpawn (see previos post for link). Follow instructions word for word. When done restore iPhone backup (ie not new phone option). Very straight forward. You do lose any apps that you would have got through installer but excellent to have access to apple apps. Highly recommend!

If you back up the iphone on itunes (right click on iphone device and will give you the option) it will keep your sms messages...remember to restore backup after finished 2.1 upgrade
