The first minute and a half is scathingly beautiful. Not a bad review either.

About 4-5 hrs of gaming greatness. I enjoyed it as much as Portal.

How can an indie game developed by 1 person cost 180k to make?
Gold plated PC? Artwork hand-drawn by a cryogenically defrosted VanGogh?

Or do Microsoft charge 170k to list a game on XBLA?

Cool. He ain't no fanboy is he?

Seems to hate all consoles equally.

And Pyschonauts / Prince of Persia :D

Very funny this weeks; I wasn't expecting him to latch onto Braid, even if it is the game du jour around the console parts. It's nice to see that he won't spare the lashes for the "indie" crowd just because he's one of them.

The thrashing he aims at the monkies who buy the continuous rent-a-shooters is nicely executed. If only it had a semblance of a chance that it might work :)

Can't really see what all the fuss about Braid was tbh, couldn't be arsed with some of the puzzles towards the end and just found myself heading for the exit instead and had it cleared in less than 2 hours... Might go back to it at some stage, but I'm definitely feeling short-changed right now:(

Probably something to do with lost earnings from not working elsewhere during development.

Makes sense, I guess... it took him 3 years to make, apparently.

His opening rant was inspired - most brilliant minute of pure anger I've heard in ages. Kudos.

And yes, Braid is spectacular. Hit the nail on the head about the satisfaction when you solve some of the more head wrecking puzzles.

yeah definitely one of his better ones. I was in stitches at the line "yes I mean you... Adrian!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,132 ✭✭✭silvine

And his Australia beach tax thing!

I think he liked this game. His criticism were a little week. I liked the plot and though nearly all the puzzles were very well done. I liked it when there was a new twist on an old idea.

He mentions it cost USD180,000 to develop Braid. Any idea where he got this figure from?

Heh. Technically nothing he says is incorrect. But I am rather looking forward to reading about all the Eve players who go "waaa waaa you missed the whole point!"

We've been mocking a friend of mine for a good two years about how eve is his second job.
Thankfully we're not alone in this assessment

As i've said on counting, 4 comments sections now:
"Good review, for a 14 day trial. Sticking to the NPC corp and only playing for 14 days doesn't justify the game wish it did, but the game is so much bigger than that." http://www.aslum.net/eve/LearningCurve.jpg :pac:

Shameless Plug: Anyone wanting further information on Eve online can drop me a pm or ask in the Eve Online Forum. Just don't refer to corporations as guilds and you'll be fine.

Seems quiet over there. They're probably too busy with their second jobs to rise to the bait.

    Not overly quiet.

Another thread in OOP too. :pac:

Tried EVE for a few days a while ago, and would mostly agree with this review. I can see the appeal of the game, but probably not for me (though I do respect the complexity of the thing).

On a Zero Puntuation note, love the dragon hiding behind the mountain.

    Yahtzee ftw again :)

One of the highpoint of my wednesdays :P

people who are slating eve from a few days of trial no nothing about eve,
    and nothing about games.

that includes yahtzee, you say the eve fanboys are silly or whatever, but you have to look at yourself and see that have this thread are fanboys of yahtzee who is a cynical fool, who looks at every game with a completely warped view just to seem like he's intelligent, he actually isn't. He's 100% boring.

Fanbois or not, one cannot appreciate what Eve has to offer in a 14 day trial and especially by refusing to join player corps. Player corp PvP is the main source of fun in Eve.
