    Bas,

Used the pwnage method from iclarified.com to upgrade my iPhone to 2.0.1. But it's real slow. Do I use the same method to upgrade to 2.0.2?

Yeah.. apparently the 2.0.1 version of Pwnage works fine with 2.0.2 so work away.

    I'm still on FW 2.0 - I should really upgrade! :o

Hi all. I wasn't sure if I could open a new thread for this question or not.
Basically, I have 1st gen iphone 8GB in my hand. It's not mine, but was asked to update it to 2.0.2 from 1.4.(I've done upgrades & downgrades many times)
All is fine on that end of things, but there is one problem which remains. The bottom line on the screen is non-responsive. An example would be the bottom line of the keyboard cannot be used inc. thee space bar and letters-numbers keys. Slide to unlock is fine, as is the main dock etc. but other wise it's a problem entering any data etc.
Has any one come across this problem?

Sounds a bit odd Obskure.. try a fresh restore to 2.0.2!

just downgraded from 2.0.1 to 1.1.4. On 2.0.1 I found the phone very sluggish when scrolling and sometimes txting, very annoying after what it was like.

having moved back to 1.1.4, the phone acts as it should, nice and smooth, and an installer full of apps!!

think i'll be avoiding 2.x on this hardware anyways...

As it is, I'm working with customised 2.0.1 but, yes, performing a restore now, will keep you posted.
I don't hold to much hope for it being a software problem though!

No joy. still the same problem. I suppose I'll have to check it out for a hardware problem. Unless There is other suggestions?

Just wondering if someone can help me out. If I buy an iphone second hand (1st gen- unlocked) do i need to be aware of anything when plugging it into my computer to sync music etc? I assume i will need itunes installed first, but if I plug it in i have no idea what to expect or if there is anything important i need to know?

Dont want to plug it in and the computer to go bonkers and brick it.

    cheers

Does any one know if it is possible to unlock the 3g version. I've found one online for a good price but I need to be able to use it on Vodafone?

Not with software. It is possible using one of these.

Are these not very hit and miss? I read that it's easy to physically damage your sim-tray using them.

Not if you follow the instructions and use tape. I have taken mine out several times that way. Check out all the videos on the site.

I was looking around the other day for a stereo bluetooth adapter for my 2G iphone - to pair with bluetooth headphones, to allow me to listen to music. I couldn't find one that would definitely work with the iphone's recessed headphone jack.

Anybody got one of these pieces of kit, or any other opinions/recommendations?

im on o2 bill pay and i get 250mb a month for 7euro it seems to do the job for me but i havent tried anything else, you just have to call o2 and ask them to activate it all the settings are built into the phone because they are an official carrier. you can opt out of the data bundle at any time there is no contract. hope this helps!!

Sounds good, Thanks for the help!
I'm tempted by the vodafone 500mb for €10.
Does the 250mb last you long? General use? Heavy use?

this is my first month using the data bundle so I can't answer that, but it doesn't seem very heavy, I suppose it depends on what you are using it for.

I bought an iphone from ebay a while ago. It was unlocked so it could take any sim. But a few days ago the songs disappeared off the ipod and i could not get them back unless i restored and updated the iphone from itunes-which i did, and guess what.....the sim does not work anymore!!

So does anybody have any names/contact details of someone who unlocks iphones? I'd rather take it somewhere and get it done rather than buying a package on-line to do it yourself.

    Thank you!

If you have a 1st generation iphone then i'm pretty sure you can unlock it yourself by just running a programme on your computer. Its not hard and you dont need to open the phone or anything like that.

    Check this out:

Hey animax thanks, am going to give it a go right now........

No problem, but for future reference when you have an unlocked phone and apple ask you to do an official update, don't do it!!

    yea point taken....and lesson learnt!

But the ipod part of the phone was all of a sudden completely unusable and it said the only way to recover was to restore. Any suggestions as to what to do if it happens again?

    Cheers

Hey, i just need some advice regarding what to do with my Iphone.

Last night, I updated from unlocked 1.1.4 to unlocked 2.0.1. Now since moving to 2.0.1 I have noticed it is very laggy and takes much longer to respond to commands, type etc.

Now what I'm wondering is will upgrading to 2.0.2 improve all of this? Or would I be better off downgrading to 1.1.4 again?

Is it possible to jailbreak on 2.0.2 yet? Are there any apps yet for transferring contacts from the sim to the phone? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Go to Settings / Mail Contacts Calenders / and fourth line from the bottom is import SIM contacts.

Well if you follow AnimaX's suggestions to use WinPwn/Pwnage, these tools build a "custom" firmware for you, which handles all the unlocking, etc. So if your iPhone crashes to the point where you need to restore it, you simply put it in recovery mode, connect it to iTunes and then press SHIFT when clicking the restore option in iTunes and select the custom firmware. It then restores via iTunes, does the unlock/jailbreak for you and you're back up and running in minutes.
