Seems like it could be switched on by Mid-August on these transmitters? (Maybe by Tuesday in Cork?)

If they do, should be interesting to see if it's MPEG2 or MPEG4...

Interesting. As Dungarvan is one of the more powerful relays (10 Kw on analogue), what are the chances of other relays of similar strength, such as Castlebar (9 Kw) being equipped for DTT?

One of the other high power relays - Arranmore Island - is being 'surveyed' at the moment. Theres a list of selected transposers/relays to get DTT somewhere online, its most of the high power ones.

    This is big news.
Could we see DTT service from Woodcock hill by August?.
Where do I get an Mpeg4 DVB-T receiver?.
    I can't wait for DTT.

    Patience little grasshopper :)

When the time comes a few people will be recommending receivers. You don't want arrows in the back!

Is there a schedule available on the upgrades or is this inside knowledge? Anyone have dates on Kippure being upgraded?

    thanks

THE RTENL pdf say 13 sites by q2 2009 can't see 2 much been completed
before start of 2009 if licence is only issued in august

The rollout is not dependent on the commercial DTT winner. RTE have their own mux to rollout anyways so some of them will be done next year I expect.

Yes, it makes sense that the forward thinking digital hub of Ireland (well, thanks to Casey) gets DTT!

    Thanks for any info.

There are plans to have DTT transmitting from Mullaghanish by end of 2008.

Mast is being replaced next summer.

No plans for DAB at the moment. DAB MUX2 is not available from Spur Hill or Woodcock.

An word on Cairn Hill or Maghera, I was told that work on both and tests from both were held back some because of potential problems with the Loughrea/Kilchreest deflector and some East Mayo deflector .

End of 08? Or '09? (after the mast is replaced)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 878 ✭✭✭More Music

End of 08, before the new mast.

The new mast is irrelevant. DTT will be combined into the existing feeder, when the new mast goes up the new feeder will just come to the combiner output.

Any work done before the combiner stage is not wasted, as all this will just connect to the new feeder.

BTW, the current tower was installed around 1962. Photos attached...hopefully.
