Mount Leinster perhaps? Where in south Tipperary are you?

As far as I know, it's only in parts of Leinster right now. They're in the process of starting trials in Limerick and Cork City.

Cork City?? This means transmission from Spur Hill i'm guessing?? I'm about 15 miles west of spur hill, whereas i assume the main focus of any spur hill trial would be Cork City, which is to the north of Spur Hill. Would i still be able to recieve this??

I'm in Cahir town. Do you think I could pick it up from Mt. Leinster If so what equipment would I need.

It's doubtful Cahir town is covered by a small repeater. Which is not due to be upgraded until the 2nd Phase of DTT

Why don't you get an aerial instaler out to sort out your poor reception?

It could be due to any amount of problems, water in co-ax cable, weather damaged aerial, etc etc

(all problems which can affect one channel moreso than others)

Hi Folks. I normally post on the satellite thread but maybe someone can throw some light on what has happened to my terrestrial reception lately.

My set up is tv,2 sky boxes and dvdr. I have my terrestrial aerial coming in through my main sky box and so on. I also feed 2 other tvs from a dist amp behind the tv on the wall. Terrestrial signal on all tv's was perfect on all channels, then last week, suddenly Rte 2 went very snowy and unwatchable and tv3 snowy on the main tv only. The other two tvs are still perfect on all terrestrial and satellite channels. Anyhow I checked connections, all ok. Then I put the aerial cable from the aerial socket direct to the main tv, still the same problem. I thought the socket into the tv might have a probl, but the telly is a year old panny and Rte 1, TG4, and the two satellite coax channels and dvd are all spot on. Funny thing also is if I watch the terrestrials through the dvd on the main tv the reception is perfect! I am baffled. I can manage with the way its working but I am just curious if anyone has a suggestion. thanks a lot.

Nothing major to report. Tests have been running for the last 2 weeks with power levels changing from day to day but no video. Tests were off this evening so hopefully we will see video sometime soon.

That's good to know, still carrier only on Spur Hill at the moment. Maybe we'll get some test channels yet!

anyone know when mullaghinsh will start, thought they would do that before Spur Hill to be honest?

Scheduled work on Spur Hill should be finished now, I don't suppose there's anything other than carrier still?

Nope, still just the carrier, as far as I can tell :(

But, it's probably worth mentioning that my setup hasn't been tested with a proper mpeg4 broadcast, so someone else might be able to give a definitive answer.

Did a quick check last night and still only getting carrier, but still a good strong carrier! Like ash_kay my setup hasn't been tested with an MPEG4 broadcast, but I'm pretty confident that I'd at least get channel names if there were any out there....

There were a lot of outages to analogue TV from Spur Hill during the day time yesterday I am told!
And the RTE1 transmission even went off for about a minute during Primetime last night!

I see a slight change today. There appears to be a carrier on each of the four Spur Hill DTT channels. Up to now, I've only seen it on three of the four.

Hopefully we'll see some video soon.

I have noticed the analog reception on RTE 2, TV3 and TG4 has gone bad since yesterday. I am in Parteen getting signal from Woodcock hill..

Anyone know why this is and when it may be sorted.

    thanks

I'm seeing the same problem with RTE2 and TG4 - signal level seems to be down. Lots of "Sparklies" in the picture.

    DTT related?

I spent Wednesday to Saturday in Co. Limerick and picture quality as good as ever from Woodcock Hill. In the past there have been problems every now and again but that was easily traced to the Mitchelstown txer coming in on the back of the aerial. Channels are a bit close together.

Any pictures yet on Woodcock or Spur Hill?

Certainly seems to be related to the DTT tests, the power level that they are testing at and your own set up... I'm in a block of flats with a shared system in Limerick city and our RTE2 has been buggered for weeks now :(:(

The odd day the reception recovers for a few hours and then gone again - presumably it recovers when the DTT tests reduce their power. The TV guy for our apartment block is saying that there is nothing he can do about it (I find this hard to believe)

Anyone know when/if these test broadcasts from Woodcock are finishing?
I'm hoping that we get RTE2 back before the xmas holdays :)

I phoned RTE about the same reception problem last Friday Tel. 1850584584.They advised me that the tests would be finishing this Friday,19th December.
She also advised that the analog signal would be switched off during 2009.Surely ,the analog system should be working perfectly until the switch over to Digital?? Its a total joke what has been going on. But whats new eh??!!

Analog signal wont be switched off until at least 2012. Either she is very ill informed or you heard her wrong.

I meant it was typical that while they test a new system they screw up the old system. They didn't give a toss that reception was lost on 3 of the four terrestrials. They must think once we have rte 1 we are happy!

If our multichannel supplier started testing new methods and this effected the regular service they would get plenty of complaints and people looking for their money back!

    good man Widescreen :D
I had previously rang RTENL (about 2 weeks ago on the same number) and they couldn't tell me (then) when the trial broadcasts would end :(

Delighted to hear that the interference will stop from Friday  [I do want a snowy xmas but not on RTE2 :o]

As I said before though, isn't it a pity that when RTE do testing on new technology, they screw up the old technology which we are all still supposed to be watching! I give up!

I wonder what does this mean for the starting of actual video transmissions on DTT?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 94 ✭✭ash_kay

:D I expect this'll be of interest to those of you in and around Cork city. I'm picking up video for RTÉ1, RTÉ2, TV3 and TG4 from Spur Hill. No EPG info at the mo.

Fingers crossed it won't be too erratic, but I guess we can't expect much as it is just a test.

Edit: Also radio (Radio1, 2FM, Lyric and RnaG)

Thanks ash_kay, I'm too far away from Spur Hill, but I'm sure this will ignite some interest!

BTW analog RTE2 and TV3 reception from Woodcock Hill are even worse this evening than they have been for the past couple of days - and I have a 14-element Yagi, direct line of sight and only a few miles away.

They must be using miniscule power output up there.

    Glad tests end on Friday.

Has anyone picked up anything other than a carrier from Woodcock so far?

    MtM
