Welcome Low Rider! Are you playing in the Scramble tomorrow? It will be tough to qualify.

Jesus Kingdom you had me thinking hard there for a minute. That was a long time ago.Couldn't be seen to be beaten by an Inter :D (Think of the stick I'd have got).

Too long! We don't have those type of qualifying scenarios in offaly too often, although there was a superb game on the last night last year between joe mcgrath and Billy buckley last year.
Didn't realise you were out of action Wigertoods. hope it sorts itself out soon enough.
I'll post the scores at our end.

Heard the greens were ok from a Portmarnock player a couple of weeks ago. Cement scratch cup on Sunday should get a good crowd, always a course in good condition. surprised it hasn't had a Leinster or National competition recently/

    Greetings,

It could be tricky to qualify tomorrow with a bit of wind in L'town
Are the greens in good nick

It's a bit scabby on l'towns part by only offering 9 - 4 mon - Fri to practice BTW

Low rider, nothing we could do mate, i told the board when offering the course that we had a weekly competition the week of the scramble and it was ok, there to blame, grrens have picked up really well and they should be a joy to putt some very fast and tricky hole positions

To be fair Hitman, the last time I played a qual competition in Loughlinstown the same complaints surfaced, as they did the time before that when I was an Inter, I'm not saying its gamesmanship, but there's only so much to a coincidence, if you catch my drift. :)
Anyway nevermind the practice, I'm sure if the oitlanders are decent enough teams they'll be decent enough to qualify.

I can understand people not wanting to say who they are, but I think it would be no harm for people to post what club they are affiliated to.
That way it would cut out wumming as such to a certain degree.
    I'm Tullamore.

Good stuff dromcill, never played it (like lots of the cork courses) but hope to get down there soon enough.

Thats John Mannings old club isn't it?

That is correct. Try and make it down for our Open week. Our Scratch cup is on Sunday 11th May. The course is in good nick and we have a couple of nice signature holes

thats not going to be possible dromcill thats a non-pitch&putt weekend for me! I was more trying to organise a few days towards the end of the summer of playing all the cork courses.
You might be able to give some advice actually.....whats this newcestown course like? I've always wanted to play claycastle for some reason too!

Is There really any real standard for pitch and putt?
Surely its just practice for the real game (golf)

Good one, I suppose Gaa is a warm up for Aussie Rules?
I would like to see the best golf amateurs try their hand in our PPUI championships. I really would. I hate this "little fellow" attitude towards pitch and putt.
Did you even bother to read through the thread?

Not a chance GAA isn't even in the same league as aussie rules!!

Its not a little man attitude, I never really thought of Chess as a sport until I got involved in that, now I can't get enough of it... I was asking the question cause I was looking to be enlightened... What makes it a sport in itself? It is a variation of golf, so I just assumed it was an easy version of the gameicon5.gif

Ok apologies. It really depends who you talk to. We (well most who have posted here) are members of clubs affiliated to the PPUI, who have strict rules and regulations, such as handicaps, clubs, course rules, distances, that while are similar to golf, are different.
There are very few commercial courses(if any) in the PPUI, any that I know of are members clubs with their own constitutions.
The PPUI is split up into 3 grades for adults and their is also a Juniors(U/16) grade. Competitions and team events are organised on a National, Provincial and County basis. Clubs also have their own championships. The standard at senior level is excellent, courses range from simplistic to tough and from basic to exquisite. Some courses have to be played to be appreciated, such as my own, Tullamore, Cashel, Glenville in Tallaght and Fermoy in Cork are probably the best example of pitch and putt. Both have a truely wonderful course and facilities (including bar), while Glenville has a membership exceeding 500 if I'm correct.
try www.ppui.ie/ and have a read.
If you let us know what area you're based we would be able to recommend a club to you.

    @Kingdom
i wanted to be anonymous too.Don't know how anyone figured out who i was :D

Seriously though,It's great to see that we now have a few more p&P players coming out of the closet and participating here.I think for so long now we've all been lurking on the golf forum and putting our little contributions in her and there.Hopefully we can keep this up and maybe get a few more contributors and then even "our own" forum.

here gos nothing imo that a golfer would not have a chance playing against a good pitch and putt player off scratch. As i say it does require a lot of skill at that game.pitch and putt players are great chippers and for golf players wounldnt use much chipping onto greens.Id agree that golfers would be great at putting as they play on large greens imo.As for pitch and putt is a fast growing game and i enjoy the craic of it.I have nothing against golf and enjoy watching big tournaments on sky.Pitch and putt is a good affordable game for the young and old.

    well said lads.
It's quite annoying when people be-little our sport with respect to golf.
There are so many uneducated people who don't realize that p&p is a very competitive and skillful sport.
I'm quite certain that most of us in this thread play golf from time to time and I'm also quite certain that the same people here would have a much better short game playing golf than most of the posters in the golf forum.

I find too that most golfers think that Pitch and Putt is a mickey mouse sport which requires little skill and is beneath them to play. Best thing to do is challenge any golfing Pitch and Putt bashers to a game. They will soon change their tune. I play a bit of golf with golf societies and have found that Pitch and Putt definitely helps your golf game (around the greens) but that the standard golfer cannot adapt to Pitch and Putt as the emphasis the majority of the time in golf is to use a full extended swing. This does not work on the 25m to 40m Pitch and Putt holes.

Back from the National Scramble qualifiers in Cork. My team came 7th of 24 so we qualify for the National finals in Dublin. We got a score of 75 and a 1/3rd Nett. The best score was 70 and a 1/3rd Nett. The best gross score was 29 under which is some shooting for 36 holes. How did you all do in your respective qualifiers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Draupnir

I guess it would be easier if we had our own forum, but would anyone have the time to explain the scoring systems for the different competitions and how they are actually played, eg three players on a team in a scramble and how they score etc.

I am going to post in feedback now to request a forum or sub forum as I think we are more than busyenough to justify one

Well done HITMAN. That was great scoring by your team. Should be good fun at the finals. I am expecting some crazy low NETT scoring. Whats the Lucan course like?.
