Looking at the Dublin draw of the National Matchplay, there will be some interesting qualifiers. I think in general the final 64 will be weaker this year than previous years.

what club do you play out of DugOut? Are you in the matchplay yourself.
I think you are right with your comment by the way.

As regards the National Matchplay, I'd say Ray Murphy is the man to beat again. He is coming into form and won the Cork Charity Scratch Cup last weekend at the ESB club.

Playing myself this weekend in the National Scramble Qualifying in Cork at Kilmichael. First time playing in a P&P scramble so looking forward to it. 26 teams with 10 to qualify for the finals. Anyone else playing in the National Scramble qualifiers?.

Good mix of handicaps playing in the Cork qualifiers so it will be interesting to see the mix of Senior, Intermediate or Junior teams that get through. I think a team of high handicapers will be hard to beat if they play well enough as any all senior teams would have to hit the ground running and dyke their way around the course to make up for the handicap differneces

Playing in it myself mate in Dublin, should be a good laugh, we won the gross last year in dublin in the county scramble - 1 big plus is the qualfying is in our course, and not many outiders like it, if the wind picks up its very difficult course and will suit the home teams, think only 9 qualify out of dublin

Best of luck HITMAN but by the sounds of it, you don't need it. Home advantage really counts in Pitch and Putt. If our team are lucky enough to qualify (emphasis on lucky !!!!) in the Cork qualifiers, maybe we can meet up at the finals in Dublin.

Welcome dromcill! yes I think everyone would agree that ray is the man to beat, on a course that he seems to do well on.

Nice to see a P&P forum

Our team of 3 for the National Scramble have handicaps of 9/9/7 so we have plenty of shots to play with. What kind of score would be considered a good score in a P&P scramble for 36 holes.

In dublin the scoring we be from 7 under to 18 under think u will need 30 anyway net to qualify, always leave ur best pitcher and putter to last and play in a sequence that ur happy withm with ur handicap 7 to 10 under u would have a good chance to qualify

Thanks for the scramble advice HITMAN. A good strategy is important. Pressure will be on the third man to sink those putts. I suppose the first (weakest) putter (assuming one of the three pitches get on the green) should play safe to get the ball up to the hole. Putters 2 and 3 can then be aggressive with their putts.

The scoring will be hard to work out as I'm led to believe its an all-nett competition.

Gives us Intermediate/Junior players a chance to mix it with the big boys. All the top seniors in Cork are playing so it will be our chance for once to be competitive with them in the same competition.

have plenty of time for non-seniors myself. Thats whats so good about the NAtional matchplay all grades are together. I remember the first couple of years out of adults I took great pleasure as an inter at knocking seniors out of the qualifying and running a couple of others close. Remember Campions Wigertoods? A miracle chip and a miracle putt or you were gone!

Yeah I've gone through a few scary moments in the matchlay qualifiers.
I qualified for quite a few National M/P as an inter.I think the most memorable was beaten Harkins in cy on the final night.(I had only joined the club a month previous and was playing off 6 at the time.)

In a bit of trouble at the moment.I have only played about 3 rounds in the last couple of months.Had a bad sprain in my wrist and still hasn't healed yet.Need to get it sorted quick or I'll be watching from the sidelines all year.:(:(:(

Jesus Kingdom you had me thinking hard there for a minute. That was a long time ago.Couldn't be seen to be beaten by an Inter :D (Think of the stick I'd have got).

Let me tell you, Wigertoods, it's tough on the sidelines!! I hope you get back into it soon.
As for the scramle, I thnk -30 will be the cut off in Dublin but then again as Hitman said if the wind blows and all that. I think its 21 quailifiers in Dublin, is it not?
    Is Loughlinstown in good condition?

    Greetings,

It could be tricky to qualify tomorrow with a bit of wind in L'town
Are the greens in good nick

It's a bit scabby on l'towns part by only offering 9 - 4 mon - Fri to practice BTW
