    Guys,

I have a iPhone that is jailbroken and activated on 1.1.2. I'm now thinking of upgrading to 1.1.4 with the use of Pwned. Just wondering has anyone had any probs with this app so far? And also, should I restore to firmware 1.1.4 in iTunes first before I start the unlocking process or can I just upgrade directly from 1.1.2.

    Thanks in advance,

    z

With any of these you are best to sit tight for a couple of days and wait to see if there are any bugs there are usually a couple let someone else do the testing.

Also the PWNAGE that the dev team released is fairly limited in what it allows you to add to the pwned firmware in a couple of days there should be tools out to allow you to really customise your firmware I would wait and see how things develope .

Quick question n please don't shoot me...

I've an iPhone that I got in the states in Jan, it was 1.2 when I got it.. I had it unlocked in Chinatown.. Has been working fine since..

Anyways, I'm looking to update the firmware... What is the easiest way to do this. All i'm looking for is a link and some basic advice..

I've no idea if i've to downgrade it or if I can just upgrade it as it is... I've looked around a few sites n just get lost..

what firmware is on it now is it using a "stealth" sim or is it software unlocked

And what mobile provider are you with if its 02 speakeasy best to stay away from 1.1.4

If not then download 1.1.4 then use itunes to put 1.1.4 on the phone by restoring NOT updating
Then use iliberty+ to unlock it

Alternatively hang on for a few days and see how pwned is working and if all is well then use that there is a tutorial on iclarified already

Guys, I'm massively impressed with everyones knowledge here but forgive me because I'm not technically gifted. I am heading to Washington DC next thursday and was thinking of getting an iPhone but on reading all the threads I am wondering would i be making a mistake. Is there anywhere in Dublin that will unlock the phone for me on my return? What specification on the phone should i watch out for when i am buying??
    Thanks in advance :confused::confused::confused:

The mistake would be not to pick one up while you are in the US they can all be unlocked very easily.

just make sure you get good advice and DONT use Ziphone or let someone who wants to use Ziphone near it.

Thanks cdebru. I was going to hang on anyway until there some more feedback on PWNAGE. I'm happy enough with 1.1.2, just thought it was time to upgrade so I want this to go as smoothly as possible which is why I will definately hang on for a few days to see if there are any bugs to worry about.

    1.1.4 ONLY:

I just used the BootNeuter app to upgrade my BootLoader back to 4.6 from 3.9 (it was downgraded by ZiPhone). No need to use the PwnageTool app, and I kept all my apps, data and unlock intact. Essentially, I've now got a fully functional 1.1.4 unlocked & jailbroken iPhone :)

Be sure to set the Auto-Lock to Never.

Next, see the 4th post in this thread for instructions: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36528

WARNING: If you do not know what you are doing please don't even try this.

You need to enter the settings from the link above under Settings -> General -> Network -> EDGE.

Then give Meteor a call and ask them to enable ISP internet access. They'll tell you to switch off your phone for about an hour while the account change takes effect (they should work after a few mins though).

If you're on PAYG, watch out of the cost of data though. It'll eat up your credit. If you're on bill pay, you can get data addons which will work out much cheaper.

(This was in response to another thread re: Meteor & EDGE, I guess it was merged/moved)

I went into installer and got BSD installed from there, still no icon on the springboard, must just be the way it is. What is the main use for it guys if there is no icon to access it? Also, do I need to have terminal on my iPhone?

Anyone know where I can find the fix for themes to work on 1.1.4?

    Cheers,
    M

There is a fix for 1.1.3/4 where the themes dont work on summerboard

Also some of the themes just don't work with newer versions even with the fix

BSD installs apps that are used in the background by some other apps.

No, you don't need terminal, unless you want to use the command line yourself.

For SummerBoard 1.1.4 themes, there's a fix in the 1.1.3 Tweaks in Installer.app.

When I used iLiberty + to unlock etc. etc. I chose the advanced tab and told it to move the fonts and rintomes etc. from the system partition to the user one, it did it and I have no issues at all.

When I had my 8GB running 1.0.2 there was an E symbol next to the Vodafone operator logo, now there is just a blue block with no E, does anyone know why the E does not appear? Not a big deal just curious really....

    Cheers,
    M

No E means that EDGE internet access is not enabled, only GPRS. You'll need to configure EDGE and/or have it enabled.

I've used it on 1.1.4, worked perfectly. It's a fairly strightforward operation, just moving some files and leaving a symlink in their place so should be safe enough. Just make sure your phone isn't set to auto-lock and don't do anything with it for the 30 seconds or so it takes to run

Ok well the best way is to update to 1.1.4 via itunes

Then use pwned to unlock it with a custom firmware

    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=893

Just a note to add to the tutorial if you update to 1.1.4 the phone won't be activated so itunes will just keep you at the activate screen so put the phone into restore mode or if you can't do that use iliberty+ to activate it then restore to your custom ipsw in itunes

Alrighty.. Here goes nothing.. Just downloading the update via restore in iTunes now..

You have a mac I presume

Don't forget to remove the stealthsim

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,830 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Yep, took the stealth sim out.. Do I just put my own sim in now or wait till i've pwned it first??

And at what stage do I need to

When I used the restore to 1.1.4 method with iplus2.0b I put my pay as you go sim card in after the "iplus -u" command was finished running, just before step 3 in the tutorial.

Up to that and during the procedure I had the original sim in there.

Right.. That all worked.. What do I do now??

install community sources first make sure you clear the queue

Thats already installed.. I can't install anything.. It keeps saying the same thing.. I've noticed that when I'm in Installer the loading animation is constantly on the go as if the app is downloading in the backround or updating the page.. Is this normal?? I'm talking about the ring u get beside the wireless strength at the top of the screen that rotates when ur loading up a web page etc..

Go back to your custom ipsw and restore to it again or create a new one

BTW did you let itunes restore the iphone from a back up or did you set it up as a new phone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,830 ✭✭✭unklerosco

First thing I did was plug the phone into the mac and hit restore on iTunes.. It downloaded the update and restored the phone.

I then followed all the instructions on the link u gave me and restored my phone with my custom ipsw.

Everthing works perfectly except for installer...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭Prisoner6409

U could also try and load BSD by going into the "most recent updated folder" locating BSD and trying instalingl from there. Make sure you "clear queue before hitting install.
