Yeah use iplus or iliberty+ there is a tutorial on www.hackthatphone.com

I cant find this 'iplus' method. This phone was originally a 1.1.3 so if i restore it, do i restore it to 1.1.4? Then unlock using this method?

Can somebody send me a link to the unlocking method please?

    Thanks!

    http://modmyifone.com/wiki/index.php/Install_Rogue_Sources

Thats a tutorial on adding sources to your installer instead of the one they are adding you add "rep.frenchiphone.com"

then your installer will refresh and then go to install and then choose all packages then scroll down till you find simport and then install it when it is installed press the home button on the phone

Then go back into the phone and you will see a new simport icon click that and follow the instructions

I have a brand new iPhone winging it's way over from the US, I presume it'll be 1.1.4. I've been checking the usefull links sticky and there seems to be a couple of ways to go about activating/unlocking/jailbreaking. iLiberty seems to be the newest and downgrades to the fakeblank 3.9 BL, is this the recommended way to go about it or is one of the other methods preferred?

(I presume they're all more or less based around the same methods anyway?)

    Just don't use Ziphone

Iliberty uses the iplus unlock and bootloader downgrade

If you don't want to downgrade the bootloader you can downgrade the baseband instead to 04.02.13g iliberty+ will do that for you as well

    Hi,
I've been google searching for the answer but can't find it. Can I buy an iphone from a store in the North for cash without signing a contract or will they refuse to sell the phone without signing a contract on site?

    Thanks in advance.

Having had the heads up from Bob24 I headed North myself and am now the owner of a brand spanking new 16GB UK iphone:).

Lads and ladies.. if you're using a Mac, do yourself a favour and download DropCopy.

Seriously one of the best things for the iPhone.. you need it on your Mac and your iPhone. You'll see a transparent eclipse symbol on your Desktop - simply drag a file onto it and it'll be transferred to your iPhone over WiFi.

Same goes for the version on the iPhone.. simply select the file in DropCopy and it'll be sent to your Mac.

    Absolutely brillant!

apologies as i am sure this has been answered a million times already.
My sister has picked up and 8gb iphone from the states for me (will have it on sunday), a mate in work said he will jailbreak it and put all the necessary stuff on it. Unfortunately I am not the patient type and would love to do it myself. I will be using an o2 billpay sim (not going to sign up to the iphone tariff) and basically just want all the functionality working (including sms)
Is there a link to instructions on how to do this considering I don't know what firmware the phone will be.
    Cheers.

I have put a small problem with Step 7 of this post in bold at the bottom:
    davkav wrote: »
Okay here it is plain and simple (windows method)
    Step 1: Restoring firmware 1.1.1
Step 2: Jailbreaking Iphone with version 1.1.1 firmware
Step 3: Prepare your 1.1.1 device for the Update
    Step 4: Update to 1.1.2
Step 5: Jailbreak your iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware
Step 6: Upgrade and Unlock to 1.1.3 using iClarified
Step 7: Phone # to name fix

    Step 1: Restoring firmware 1.1.1

    1. Download the 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file from here
and the 1.1.2 firmware file from here

    2. Reboot your iPhone, with cable connected to PC, holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen shows the apple logo) and continue to hold the home button until iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.

    3. Restore your iPhone by pressing and holding the ‘Shift’ key on windows then click ‘restore’ to select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier. The restore should complete with the error at the end with error 1015. The phone will then hang in connect to itunes mode.

    4. In order to kick the phone out of that mode I just had to launch
    ibrickr from this zip file.

Step 2: Jailbreaking Iphone with version 1.1.1 firmware

    1. enter *#307# press call, now use the back button on the top of your screen to remove *#307# , now enter 0 , press call, press answer, press hold, press decline. And you get to the contact list.

    2. you should now be able to acces your contacts list and add a contact.

    3. Now edit a new contact and type in "prefs://" as web-address and "http://jailbreakme.com" as an additional URL.

    4. When you tap "prefs://" you can now select your favorite WiFi gateway.
Whilst in preferences its a good idea to set auto lock to never.

    5. Now press the home button and move the slider to the dial-pad.

    6. Now you can go back to the contact list by Dialing 0, push call, then answer, then contacts, then hit the "http://jailbreakme.com" web address you typed in.

    7. Scroll down to the bottom, click Install AppSnapp. Safari will exit and you'll return to the activate screen. Wait for the phone to reboot (about 30secs). You are now jailbroken and are able to use Installer.app.

If the phone doesnt reboot, restart the phone yourself and repeat step 2

Step 3: Prepare your 1.1.1 device for the Update

    1. Launch Installer.app

    2. Scroll down to Tweaks (1.1.1)

    3. Select OktoPrep

    4. Click Install

    Step 4: Update to 1.1.2

    1. Connect your device to your computer

    2. Launch iTunes

    3. Choose your device

    4. Click shift-Update and update using the 1.1.2 firmware file downloaded earlier.

    - DO NOT CLICK OR SHIFT-CLICK RESTORE: That will wipe the changes OktoPrep made.

    5. Wait forever for your device to update

Step 5: Jailbreak your iPhone with 1.1.2 firmware

    1. Close iTunes

    2. Connect your device to your computer

    3. double click on windows.bat from this zip file

    4. Follow the on screen instructions. also make sure you have the latest java installed else the windows.bat file wont work.

Step 6: Upgrade and Unlock to 1.1.3 using iClarified

    1. Add installer.iClarified.com to the source list of installer.

    2. Scroll down to the System folder and install BSD Subsystem

    3. Press the home button to go back to springboard, when it refreshes go back into installer and scroll down to the iClarified folder and install Soft 1.1.3 Jailbreak

    4. When this finishes (could take anything up to an hour) restart the phone and boot back up just to be safe. Next go back into installer scroll down to iClarified folder again and install Geohot Unlock (1.1.2, 1.1.3).
This will take approx. 5mins to do. At this stage you now have an unlocked jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone. Only thing to fix is the Phone # to name problem with SMS and phone calls

Step 7: Phone # to name fix

    1. In installer scroll down to the System folder and install OpenSSH.

    2. when thats finished, download this program and install it onto your computer WINSCP.

3.Download PhoneNumber Dynamic Library File from here

    4. next go into (on the iPhone) Settings -> Wifi -> and click on the blue arrow beside your active connected wifi connection. This should bring up a whole load of info. The piece we want is the Ip Address, take note of this.

    5. Open up WINSCP on your computer and insert the relevant info:
Host Name: the ip address you wrote down in No.6
    Username:root
    Password:alpine
    File Protocol:SCP

    6. Create a directory named "Support" in /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/ directory
    on your iPhone.

Copy the "AppSupport" and "AppSupport.original" files from the zip file to the
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/
    directory on your iPhone.

Copy the "PhoneNumber.dylib" and "PhoneNumberTemplates.txt" files from the zip file to the
    /System/Library/Frameworks/AppSupport.framework/Support/
    directory on your iPhone.

Optimize the "PhoneNumberTemplates.txt" file on your iPhone deleting all the templates for the other countries in the file other than Ireland.

Thats it your iPhone should now be Unlocked, Jailbroken and regionalised (is that a word??) for Ireland

Obviously I didnt write all this, I aint taking credit I just added a few links and tidied it up a wee bit.
    Hope this helps!!!

I revised this with cdebru's corrections!!
The problem is the folder does not contain a PhoneNumberTemplates.txt file, it contains PhoneNumberTemplates_1.plist, PhoneNumberTemplates_2.plist and PhoneNumberTemplates_3.plist There is no .txt file in the folder, does somebody know the solution to this?

hmmm I got that before and it seemed pretty good, but I think the problem was when I dropped the files onto the iPhone, I didn't know how to access them  Like if I transfer a song across, where does it go? I presume not the iPod... And if I transfer a photo, it doesn't go to the photo album does it?

    Cheers....

edit: Got the NES emulator and a bunch of ROMs :) It's pretty awesome!

And I see in Installer you can download SNES ROMs!!! Does that mean there's a SNES emulator floating about too?!

Following on from the last post I have a similar concern. If you have a brand new phone how do you know what firmware version is installed before you start the Jailbreak\Unlocking\Activation process. If you happen to have version 1.1.4 firmware installed do you still need to Restore the phone to 1.1.4, the guides do not seem to be clear(to me) about this, they all seem to start with "Restore your iphone to 1.1.4", so I'm a bit confused.

If you have 1.1.4 on a brand new locked or official phone then you do not need to restore

Check firmware on a lock unactivated phone

slide unlock then dial this on the dialer

However when I go to run iWorld, I get this message:"Size Mismatch"-Your appsupport framework is not supported, iWorld will now close
The phone works perfectly, except when a phone call comes in that is in my phonebook the name does not show up, just 087*******, I have all my phonebook numbers saved in the format +35387*******. This was not a problem when I had iWorld installed and was operating on jailbroken 1.1.2 with a stealth SIM.

Am currently on bill pay. If I get an iPhone from across the border for unlocking, I will go bill-pay with O2, lowest tariff plus their data add on.

Do I need to be careful about the SIM card they give me? Does it need to be a 3G SIM card, or should it not be a 3G SIM card?

A girl in an O2 shop said they could give me a free phone when I sign up for a 12 month contract (I would have to sign up for a 12 month initial contract anyway to go billpay).

That phone was 3G so would have a 3G SIM I assume.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Cdebru worked a treat, I'm on 1.1.3(4.03.13.G). One last question before I kick off. Is the newest tutorial for iplus where you restore to 1.1.4 at the off applicable to me on 1.1.3 or do I have to use one of the "Deprecated tutorials" that paticularly refer to 1.1.3. I just want to be sure to avoid any misshaps.

If you have not done anything to the phone then you can just update to 1.1.4 via itunes and start from there

The restore to 1.1.4 is for people who have a previous version unlocked and jailbroken as the update leaves the files intact some of them could interfere with your 1.1.4 whereas a restore gives a clean install

As you have not done anything you have a clean install and an update would be a clean install

BTW iliberty+ is available now it is more straightforward than iplus I gave a link to it earlier today

I unlocked/activated/jailbroke earlier with iLiberty. It worked very well, very quick and simple and phone is working fantastically now.

I did run into one little glitch with it, at the start it trys to automatically boot the phone into recovery mode, it couldn't do this but it's a known bug in the software and it prompts you to manually boot it into recovery mode (telling you how to) and you just press a different button to continue.

Other than that it worked extremely well. It was nice to have Installer automatically installed too.

Just like to send a big thanks to cdebru for his assistance. My iphone is now jailbroken/unlocked/activated and all appears to be fine. I used iplus2.0b which worked well but took a bit longer than I had tought it would. Just a heads up for others, in the instructions the guide states to go into recovery mode(to restore1.1.4) you press home and sleep/wake for 10 secs to go into DFU mode. This would just not work for me. What did was to hold both keys untill the apple showed and you here a beep, then release the sleep/wake button but holding the home button untill you here a second beep, then it went into restore mode fine. A simple thing but if you are following instructions to the letter it can leave you stumped. Otherwise iplus was great.

    Sham

It's OK in the way that it works fine and a lot of people did it with no problem (it was the first software to be able to unlock the 1.1.3 OOB iPhones)

The only thing you need to know is that as part of the unlock process the unlock software will downgrade the bootloader of the phone (the bootloader is more or less the same as the BIOS for a computer). If you do it with ziphone it is not possible to go back (ie you can not put your phone back in the same state as it was out of the box) whereas a tool like iPlus uses a different method and will give you that option. Then it is arguable whereas it is useful of not ...
    The 2 main arguments are:
    - if you want to try to use the warranty and the bootloader is the wrong version Apple will know that you have unlocked it. But in my opinion it is not very important as anyway they can tell it hasn't been activated through iTunes, plus if it is broken most likely you won't be able to restore it
    - in the future the could easily detect the unlocked phone remotely by comparing the IMEI number and the version of the bootloader. It might sound a bit too big brother-like though ...

    Cheers Bob,
That explains it quite well. I am new to all this apple stuff.
Have the iphone and a macbook air coming from the states on Sunday so it looks like I will have my hands full over the next few months getting to grips with both.
    Thanks Again.
