just bought an iphone. I am assuming it already has 1.1.4 software right. I cant see restore button on itunes. Please help

I am having problems with an iphone i have at the moment. It was a newer version (1.1.3 afaik) and it was unlocked using the new method. 'apparently' it is a friends iphone. When they tried however to install cyndia on it, the phone bricked! Now when i turn it on i get a black screen with white text (like terminal or similar) and it has:

Singleuser boot -- fsck not done
Root device is mounted read only

If you want to make modifications to files:
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /

If you wish to boot the system:
exit

Then the messages below that keep changing. Cannot exec /bin/sh etc and similar messages.

I put it into restore mode and tried to get ibrickr to launch it, but it couldnt

ANY ADVICE??

I can do a restore for the owner of the phone but i need a guide to unlock and anysim it again (i did a few phones but they were all the easier 1.0.2 firmware)

Is there a simple way??

Yeah use iplus or iliberty+ there is a tutorial on www.hackthatphone.com

sounds like the mobile company you are using wants you to use their SMTP server or they don't have one in which case you will have to direct it to one.

If its meteor they don't have one so use the eircom one

Ta cd. I'm on o2 so that would explain it. Now to figure out where to change the setting.

You don't have to use the o2 one. I think o2 allow some smtp servers and not others. I can send email from my iphone no problem with gmail's smtp server.

trying to use iplus to unlock phone at moment, step 3 asks me to "launch Terminal by secting it in Applications:utilities folder" where do i find this folder?

Those instructions apply to a Mac OS (Leopard, Tiger), not Windows.

Find some Window instructions.

Hey everybody!

Had a look through this thread but didn't come across a solution for my problem.
Bought a 1.1.4 iphone here in Ireland, used iplus to jailbreak, once jailbroken the audio did not work on the phone. I restored and used iplus to jailbreak again, phone worked fine and i put some apps on. The phone then turned itself off and when i turned it back on no audio would work again. Any solutions to this problem out there?!
Also, if any of you can help me with the jailbreak, what apps are recommended?

i've got myself in a muddle, something that is very easy is hard for me as i am new to computers, I downloaded wrong iplus file, mac instead of pc, now i have 2 files and when i type in step 4 "cd desktop/iplus2.0" it does not recognise pathway. I tried to delete programs and start over but i cannot as it says i need permission, can anybody help?

I've been google searching for the answer but can't find it. Can I buy an iphone from a store in the North for cash without signing a contract or will they refuse to sell the phone without signing a contract on site?

A few people have said yes, but I am not sure all shops will do it. They are not supposed to. O2 is actually a better bet than Carphone Warehouse for some reason.

Iplus is mac and windows so there is only one file

Chances are that it did not recognise the path because the file is not on your desktop or the file is called iplus 2.0 not iplus2.0 change the name of the file by removing the space

Go to installer

Add rep.frenchiphone.com to the sources

Then install simport

run simport and it will copy your contacts to the phone

The new iliberty+ has a fix for no signal in the advanced options. There is a theory that the problem is that the phone has not actually been unlocked even though the unlocking programs are reporting a successful unlock.

Iliberty+ attempts to force an unlock even if the phone reports itself as unlocked

Might be worth a try cant hurt anyway

I have a brand new iPhone winging it's way over from the US, I presume it'll be 1.1.4. I've been checking the usefull links sticky and there seems to be a couple of ways to go about activating/unlocking/jailbreaking. iLiberty seems to be the newest and downgrades to the fakeblank 3.9 BL, is this the recommended way to go about it or is one of the other methods preferred?

(I presume they're all more or less based around the same methods anyway?)
