Let me clarify - yes, the phone is official on o2 and works with my o2 sim currently. But I want to give the phone to my sister as a present (to use with her vodafone sim). To do this, I need to unlock the phone, and that means iplus, right?

On a different note, is there any way to receive SMS delivery reports to the iphone? I'm doing some research that indicates if you add a string to the start of the text you can receive reports, but the string seems to vary by network. I'm on Vodafone IE billpay, for reference.

If i buy a phone from play.com which is locked to the O2 UK network will an O2 ireland Sim work in the phonw without me having to unlock it??

No, they are different networks I am afraid. Note that you will have to pay a surcharge to get a prepay phone unlocked, btw.

hi lads, can anyone steer me in the right direction cos i've hit a bit of a roadblock. I bought an otb 1.1.2, 4.6BL iphone in the US and want to use it on o2 IRL. I bought an xsim about a 6weeks ago, but only received it last week. I down graded it to 1.1.1 via the iclarified method and loaded the istaller via jailbreakme.com. I want to put it back to 1.1.2 but, in the install menu, oktoprep cannot be found, whats wrong? what can i do now? Even with the xsim and the modified o2 prepay card it won't connect to the network. my head is wrecked from this phone. I looked back thru this thread but i can't find the answers i need,

Since I upgraded to 1.1.4 I noticed I seem to be missing EDGE from my phone. I tried resetting network settings but to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I am on meteor and when I upgraded I could not get EDGE working again I had to remove and reinsert my sim and that got it working again, before I removed the sim my carrier logo said IRL-METEOR after I reinserted it it said METEOR like before the update so try that.

Oktoprep is still there install community sources and you should see it

Btw you don't need the xsim you can go to 1.1.4 and unlock it with iplus

I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to backup my contacts from the iphone onto the computer? (or update outlook contacts using the iphone contacts?)

I am operating with a stealth sim and 1.1.2 unlocked phone and wish to fully unlock the phone, but want to backup over 300 contacts from the phone before doing so. Also what is the safest and most reliable way of unlocking to the latest 1.1.4 version without having to use a stealth sim? I would prefer a difficult but safe method rather than a quick and easy method.

(I need to operate without the stealth sim as i think mine is faulty, the phone says "NO SIM" very frequently. This is inspite of me ensuring it is correctly aligned, getting a new SIM card and using various methods of securing it in place)

iTunes keeps prompting me to upgrade to 1.1.4, and most of the apps on installer don't seem to work on 1.1.1, so is it safe to upgrade yet? I'm on Meteor BTW so obviously unlocked. Will there be any problems if I upgrade?

Does anyone know how to deactivate the touch screen during a call. I'm on the phone to my gf and then for some reason she's put on hold.

Suddenly it hits me, my ear has hit the hold button.

The other thing that happens is that I end up calling some random number during the call.

I really need to know how to stop this

AFAIK there is some sort of sensor on the phone which is supposed to turn off the touch screen when you have it up to your ear. Do you hold the phone a particular way, away from your face?

BTW another query -- how do I rearrange the icons on the home screen? The apple website says you hold your finger on an icon for a second or two and they all go shaky, and you can move them about then. Mine does not go shaky though ¬_¬ Any clues?

I believe the shaky icons are a feature of 1.1.4 so you would need to upgrade from 1.1.1 to get them.

Also iPlus2.0 is something you download from the net to your PC not from the installer in the iPhone.

I got one of those and tried a 3pay sim in a Vodafone phone and it says sim not valid. I tried an o2 sim in the same phone and it works. The 3 sim works fine in a 3 / sim free phone

Anyone with experience of this working with a 3 sim and anyone know why it works with one and not with another??

Its the proximity sensor turns the screen when you put the phone to your ear during a call probably your case is covering the sensor take the phone out of the case to test if the sensor works properly out of the case

Update to 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 to get the movable icons

If you use o2 pay as you go update to 1.1.3 as 1.1.4 sends a series of 25 cent text messages to o2 uk

I bought an O2 iPhone last week and am very happy with it so far.
Something peculiar seems to have happened though; the top line of information on the home screen is completely white-on-black. Until yesterday (I think) it looked like.....
little "bar graph" in blue, O2 IRL in grey, square box (now has an E in it) in blue, time in black and the battery meter in green.

The fact that it has turned white doesn't particularly bother me, but the battery icon is now essentially blank so I don't know how full it is, and I was caught out the other night, not knowing it was almost empty.

Choosing most options from the home screen gives me the top line in colour again, but the following show it as white too:
Notes
Calculator
Weather
Stocks
Photos

I did search through Settings to see if there's anything I need to change, I'm not being completely lazy. I also tried "Reset Home Screen Layout" to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one??

Thanks for that info cdebru. i'll check it out, but i think i'll go about using iplus cos it seems to be very straight forword.
Q. Will i restore the iphone to 1.1.2 otb status to use iplus or will do i have to upgrade the software to 1.1.4. and if so what is the safest way of doing so?

I downloaded iplus and without thinking (just started following the steps in the read me), I think I began unlocking it (./iplus -u). Realising it was already unlocked, I unplugged it midway and now it appears to be in recovery mode. iTunes is giving me the option to restore it to its original settings..... but that's not something I want to do

Is it possible to just switch it back to the way it was before I f*cked up? I was hoping to upgrade the firmware via iPlus.

quick one on texting....

if i send a text to one of my contacts, the message thread shows up in the main screen with the contacts name, however if they reply, its starts another thread with the contacts number in its international format...kinda hard to explain....any know is there a fix for this??

use ibrickr to take the phone out of recovery mode...

Okay I just decided to try the iPlus thing again and it seems to have fixed it

however it still says that it's version 1.1.1 (3A109a)

ziphone has an option to take the phone out of recovery aswell, i think theres a mac version for that

as far as i know u'll lose your contacts and messages if u restore

Make sure the card is cut enough. I had this also and one card was cut slightly smaller than the other and the chip on the sim adapter wasnt fully coming through. Also, I use a small piece of sellotape or something to hold them firmly together in case it is not aligned correctly
