I've just updated my iphone firmware to 1.1.4 and unlocked it using iPlus. It's a very simple, hasstle free way to unlock your iphone.

Yeah used it last week on the mac but it was not putting installer or SSH on the phone probably fixed now easy enough to fix anyway just jailbreak with Ziphone.

People with 1.1.2 to 1.1.4 otb ie 4.6BL should know that Iplus also downgrades the bootloader to 3.9. Although it uses the fake blank so it is possible to go back to 4.6 should you need to.

There is still risk in messing with the bootloader but not as much as Ziphone.

I was able to order a 16GB on Friday from the Apple store in the US, all went through fine. I was getting it shipped to my brother who lives in San Fran.

Came in this morning and had a nice e-mail wating for me that goes something like this....
    "Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for your recent order.

Unfortunately, we do not accept credit cards from banks outside the US
and Canada. Since we were unable to process your order with the
information you provided your order was cancelled.

To place a new order with a credit card issued in the US or Canada or
inquire about using a different payment method, please visit our web
site at <http://store.apple.com> or call our sales team directly at
    800-MY-APPLE (800-692-7753), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Sincerely,
    Apple Payment Processing Support"

The card I used was a BOI credit card. My partner has an MBNA Gold card that I am now gonna try, I hope it works....

iPhone isn't on the Irish online Apple store yet, wasn't it up on the others before release for preordering? I just have a sneaky feeling they might not sell it online, O2 and Apple haven't exactly committed to Ireland big time on this, not even bothering to support visual voicemail for example, and just redirecting to the UK iPhone site rather than making their own page...

I gave the bro the $500 the time I bought the 8GB in a bankers deaft from AIB and when he got it over there he had major hassle getting it into his account. Was trying to avoid that this time by paying for it myself and just getting it shipped to him.

sorry if this has been asked before but if i did send the money over for somone to buy it for me in the states what would be the chances of getting caught for customs on the way in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,409 ✭✭✭madmoe

I done that back in September and my bro sent it to me, had no hassle at all with customs. He took it out of the original box and only sent me the iPhone and charging cable.

no you didn't miss anything they left out mms, message forwarding and the Bluetooth is pretty non exsistant! They just seem to have stuck a phone on to an iPod with an Internet browser shoved in!!!

Ok, so I got a new iPhone from the US. I tried the instructions here http://www.hackthatphone.com/114/iphone_114_true_unlock_3946bl_mac.html
but fell over at step one. When I press the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for 10 seconds the phone appears to turn off - no popup appears.

I also tried the instructions here http://iphone.unlock.no/ to bypass activation and prepare the phone for software installation but when I press 'decline' I get sent back to the initial screen, not the 'Normal Dialer' with a contacts button.

My firmware version is 04.03.13_G. Anyone have any words of advise?

You are following instructions for 1.1.4 on hackthatphone.com if your baseband is 04.03.13 then your firmware is 1.1.3

You can update to 1.1.4 via itunes just so you know if you use the Iplus unlock it will downgrade your baseband but it is possible to go back if you use iplus

On iunlock that instruction is for 1.1.1 firmware phones and will not work on your phone

If you want to keep 1.1.3 then the tutorials are here http://www.hackthatphone.com/index_113.html

They are long and you will need to be unlocked on 1.1.2 first for most of them

Do not use the Nate true method

Alternatively you could use Ziphone but make sure you use the 2.4 version NOT the 2.5C version

You can download the 2.4 version here

    Thanks for that cdebru.

I downloaded ZiPhone (PC) and it couldn't find the phone. I tried iNdependence (Mac) and it gave me a couldnt download firmware file error. And I kept getting a No Sim error in iTunes on the mac.
I connected it to iTunes on a PC and managed to get to the restore screen. I did that and the phone started up, unlocked and all.

This is all good except I have a 2nd phone to unlock and I think it would be wise to take a more measured approach to it. Would you suggest using ZiPhone (the one Do it all! button looks quite appealing) or shall I try iNdependence on the Mac?

Do not use the Do it all button on Ziphone it will downgrade your bootloader to an unreversible version if you want to use Ziphone make sure you use 2.4 then choose advance options and then activate jailbreak and unlock if it is 1.1.3
Make sure that downgrade bootloader is not ticked

Do you know what firmware is on the other phone

    cdebru..

Did 2.4 downgrade your bootloader as well? Cos I'm convinced I ran the 'Do It All!' function on that.

    :(

EDIT: Yeah, just googled it and it did. Am convinced I clicked the three checkboxes on the main form and didn't go near the advanced options.

    3309-500.png

EDIT: Actually the above is for Mac. I used the Windows version but convinced I clicked the 'Do It All' button unaware.

It did easy check is what is your baseband if it is 04.03.13 then it downgraded your baseband if you are on 04.02.13 but on 1.1.3 then it didn't

If you have done it then there is no point in panicking the worst part is if it does not work then you are screwed but if it is working then its not the end of the world.

Ah doing it on the MAC changes everything nearly positive MAC version did not support bootloader downgrade so your fine

Double check if you want the baseband

Just re read your post you did not use the MAC version sorry

    Well.. shit!

What exactly is the problem with this.. I still don't understand it fully.

Could this brick my phone in the future? If I avoided any future upgrades, surely it'd still remain a working phone, right?

EDIT: Never mind.. read it here (http://acujo.com/bootloaders/dont-use-ziphone-to-downgrade-your-bootloader/). Majorly pissed off now!

Ah. I think it was ZiPhone that did the work as there is a link to Zibri's blog on my fone now. So I guess I downgraded my bootloader too. Is there any way I can check if I did this or not? What do I lose by downgrading it?

    Yeah that explains it

The good news is that yours is actually working so no point in worrying about it now it is not ideal but what is done is done.

Ahh right. So what you're saying is be wary in future upgrades as this could do some damage.

Simple check is if your baseband is 04.03.13 on 1.1.3 then yes your baseband is downgraded if the phone was originally 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 or 1.1.4

The main downside is the risk when you are actually doing it but you got through that

The other downside is that it is not reversible and it is not a true 3.9 possible it might bite you on the ass in the future but no point worrying about that now.

    Yep... 4.03.13_G here on 1.1.3! :(

There is a possibility that apple could do a check on the bootloader and prevent an upgrade but even if that happened then it is more than likely that the new PWNED could get around that.

The other thing is that it is possible that Zibri had modified the bootloader that it may not support future features i have heard that the modified version that Zibri used does not support locateme don't know whether that is true.

Just keep an eye out when 1.1.5 or 2.0 comes out and see if there is any reaction to Ziphones 3.9
