The price difference essentially depends where you're buying (and the rate of exchange to the currency used):

    Ireland = €399 / €499
    US = $399 / $499

They all have contracts.. think France or Germany are selling them sim-free but they're NOT cheap!

    Hi Lads,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but my buddy is going to canada, I am a regular ebayer and the iphone is coming to Ireland.
Where is the cheapest place to buy one at the moment?
    Nice one
    Gary

Given the exchange rate the States is the cheapest. Also, the iPhone isn't on sale in Canada.

The iphone is a mini computer, correct?

I also know that the iphone stores personal information: contacts, emails, and even apple account information.

Is there a likelyhood of your iphone being hacked using wifi or bluetooth; after all the password on the devices are the same.

Is it possible to change this password.

    Hahaha true!

    but it's also a gadget!!!!!!

Just a note on Ziphone 2.5

As I mentioned before I don't think people should use it to unlock 4.6BL iphones because it downgrades the bootloader to an unreversible version of 3.9.

Well last night I recieved a phone that someone had used Ziphone on and it has downgraded the bootloader.
It has also ****ed up the phone
Everything works except the phone which is kinda of important

I have tried everything on this phone every version of Firmware from 1.02 upto 1.14 in combination with every kind of baseband version and tried every known unlock I have SSHed over files replaced files removed file and the result is the same every time NO SERVICE.

There is no way to get the phone back to 4.6

This is exactly what I was warning people about with Ziphone it is a one way street once something goes wrong with the bootloader downgrade you are ****ed

Also proves that this is not a remote possibility nor was I scaremongering if anyone wants to do a google for Ziphone no service they will find plenty of people in the same boat.

cdebru, afaik you can use ziphone perfectly well to unlock phones without any need to downgrade bootloader to 3.9. that is an extra option in ziphone to do this if you want but not required, correct me if im wrong.

what's the best way of upgrading to and unlocking 1.1.4 without using ziphone.

or is there a way to use ziphone WITHOUT downgrading the BL

This is on a 4.6 BL

    No problem

    Your wrong

On a 4.6 bootloader iphone Ziphone 2.5 will not unlock the phone without downgrading the bootloader to zibris 3.9BL

You can go into advanced options and unselect downgrade bootloader but it just wont unlock the phone at all

You have a couple of options
This is a safer way to downgrade the bootloader and is reversible if you want to go that road
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=760

You can use independence if you have a mac

    Tutorial on hackthatphone.com

Or if you really want to use Ziphone you can use 2.5 to activate and jailbreak and then use 2.4 to do the unlock

or you can get the alternative GUI for Ziphone 2.5 called eziphone that allows you to unlock without the bootloader downgrade

oh so its just 2.5 that does this!? ah thats grand so

I've a friend going over to the US next week. So can he just go into a radio shack or a circuit city or whatever and pick one up without a contract?

I've been told by a few people that you have to give your details over.

This is the way you will download Apps. From an App store on Apple.

    iphonesdka314.jpg

Many will be free. Sega are now presenting at the conference! They have everyone involved it seems. And for business users Salesforce.com...

The Mac Evangelists are getting all giddy saying this makes the iPhone a Blackberry killer....

In the US, you purchase them either at an Apple store or an AT&T dealer. Either way, you just buy the phone; no contract, nothing. I walked in, handed over the cash, no details/contracts/accounts required,. When i started asking the guy about firmware versions and stuff, he knew i wanted to unlock it for another carrier (T-Mobile), and he didn't care.
I wanted one with the 1.1.3 firmware 'coz i knew i could unlock it easily, and so thats what i got (it had been shipped to the store 10 days before they released 1.1.4 firmware ). Any newer ones the stores have now are shipping with the 1.1.4 firmware but as far as i'm aware there are already unlocking tools out for the newer 1.1.4 firmware.

    Standard pricing is $399 for the 8GB & $499 for the 16GB.
Also, remember, in the states that price is before tax, and some states have lower retail tax-rates than others, so it's possible to save a few bucks depending on what state you buy it in.

I'm on 1.1.1 (came out of the box like this), is it safe for me to use ziphone considering I most likely have the 3.9BL rather than the one that gets downgraded? My brother is on 1.02 and I understand this version needs to be virginized first though, does he do this through installer?(I saw a package called 1.02 virginizer).

There is no lock-free iphone in germany. there was one available for one week end of november at 999€ because of a lawsuit.

Thanks a million but the 1.02 thing looks unnecessarily complex. Does anyone know anything abuut the 1.02 virginizer that's found in installer?

Unlikely via Bluetooth, as the iphone only supports headsets via bluetooth and not data transfer. Not sure about wifi though.
