Will the 02 shop in the north sell you an iPhone without signing up for a contract?

No apple stores up north - just o2 shops / phone shops.

@madmoe - They're all restricted to the particular country and to use them you need to signup online at home via your Mac/PC you can't signup in store AFAIK. But you may have to sign something for direct debits etc.

Why are they charging for voicemail? How will that work with visual voicemail? I thought Apple require unlimited data from the operator before they agree to give them iPhone?

Don't know if anyone is interested but I made a very basic little webpage to send texts from your O2 webpage over Wi-Fi.

It's basically sitting on a PHP script from Donal O Connor (http://killarneyonline.eu/o2text/) who posts as WebMonkey on Boards. I've just made a page which it formats for the iPhone screen.

It was a 10 minute job to simply roughly design the page, grab and image or two.. it doesn't do any validation and redirects to a page on Donal's website which displays a status message but will add in some validation and further develop it later this evening.

Go to the following page on your iPhone: http://www.basquille.net/iPhoneText/

It won't be an on-going project as I'm planning to develop an app when the SDK is announced.

Apple are opening an Apple Store in Belfast they have already advertised for staff

That is only if you want to sign up for a contract you can use them anywhere if you Jailbreak Activate and unlock

I'll look into it cdebru. I'm working on the same script that AFT uses and AFT hasn't worked for a few weeks on Meteor.

After the rip off announcement this morning, im looking to have a family member pick me up one in the states.

Just wondering what is the best way to buy them without getting tied to a contract? apologies if this has been asked before but the thread has 101 pages.

    Cheers

Go into an Apple store, hand them a credit card and give them an e-mail address to send the receipt to.

Try and avoid AT&T stores as they're more curious about contracts etc.

Here's hoping the O2 shops in Ireland do as they did in the UK, and AT&T did in the US, by not making you sign a contract in-store.

    Sounds Easy, Cheers :)

anyone know how to set up the voicemail button on meteor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭cri

I've read about 30 pages of this thread so apologies if this is already answered. I used to live in states and had iPhone. I came back a few weeks ago and yesterday unlocked my iphone with ZiPhone and inserted an O2 Sim. The phone works perfectly but I can not get emails or Safari and the error message is 'can not activate EDGE'. Does anyone know how I can overcome this, my O2 SIM does have data capabilities as it was originally in an Irish Blackberry. Any ideas?

    I assume that's for me..

.. I can if needs be but it'll use another one of your webtexts. Is that OK?

Possibly.. but don't know whether to just wait for the SDK announcement in a week's time so I can develop something which runs on your iPhone as an app (as opposed to a website).

It's fine on my end - server has been troublesome lately though.

It's changed slightly since the screenshot above. New buttons and a white panel underneath displays the status after sending your message (how many you've left etc.). Didn't implement in validation (for empty textfields etc.) though.

Yep, it'll still require an active Internet / EDGE connection but will implement in your phone's contacts and save your login details. The basic webpage above is simply a "temporary" project until I develop an actual app.

ive never actually used the edge on the iphone, would using an app like that cost much?
edit; as opposed to sending a text
