    Great thread.

Apologies if this has been covered before. I used the ZiPhone batch file to unlock/jailbreak/activate my OTB 1.1.3. It's now running 1.1.2 with the 4.3 bb.

I have a few quick questions:

1 - Can I use iTunes to update to 1.1.3 without locking the phone again? If no, is there a method which works?

2 - Is there a Windows app which allows you to manage programs on the iPhone in the same way the Installer does on the phone. I have installed a load of apps and I can't access the Installer app on the phone any longer as it's too far down on the dash.

I doubt you have 04.03.13 baseband it should be 04.02.13

if you update via itunes it will lock your phone but you can just unlock it again via Ziphone or similar method.

Not sure what you mean by manage your apps and you cant access your installer what do you mean its too far down too far down what

After a little scare (didn't run using verbose mode first time and got the apple logo only :o) she's up and going!

Mucho appreciated, any time you are in the Limerick direction I owe you a few pints (or a dozen).

    Good stuff

Bad design on the windows GUI that the default setting is to downgrade your bootloader something risky like that should not be the default choice luckily it failed on yours though.

Looking for some help with my iphone please.

I bought a new 8 gig iphone in the North last week and went home and tried to software unlock it. I found the Ziphone Gui 2.4 and proceded to use it. As I was not aware of the bootloader downgrade I clicked on "Do it all" Everything worked fine and I was very happy with the lenght of time it took etc. It was then the problems started:

Each time I tried to make a call I would press to go into the dialer and it would automatically go back to the springboard on pressing the second button.

Same would happen on opening the SMS automaticaly going back to the spring board

Phone did not register the phone ringing even thoough when I rang it from my work phone It was ringing.

    It also had no reception.

I then restored it to 1.1.3 and hit the "jailbreak and activate button" which worked I then downloaded anysim for 1.1.3 and unlocked it that way. Everything worked fine but I had only one bar of reception and sometimes none at all.

At this stage I was ready to throw the phone out the window but decided to do some reading up on the subject. I found that the way to sort out the reception problem was to go back to 1.1.1 and jailbreak and move up through the firmwares. I sucessfully restored to 1.1.1 and jail broke it then used to oktoprep to update to 1.1.2. I downloaded the zip file and opened it and as per the instructions opened the windows.bat file but nothing happened.

After this I used ibrickr to kick the phone out of recovery mode thinking it was the problem but still no good.

I now have my phone in the activation screen of 1.1.2 and cant get any further. Can anyone help?? I still have the turbosim from my old iphone which I dont mind using. Just want to get this baby going as I miss my last one.

I took the plunge and restored my wife's iphone to the "real" 1.1.3 via itunes and then ran ziphone 2.4 batch file "do it all" and after 4 long minutes I now have a working iphone again, this time without the iphonesimfreer chip inserted.

Excellent piece of software that ziphone.

    Anyway, what next?

I want to fix the number recognition problem (I believe I need appsupport) but that I first need to install the BSD subsystem. When I try to install the BSD subsystem via the installer I get the message: "Package download failed" - my wifi is working fine (I can surf in safari).

    Any ideas?

Update: looking at iclarified, the instructions they give on installing BSD uses version 2.1, I'm nearly certain the one I was getting last night was 2.0.

    Anyone else come across this?

Ok, am back. Got a 16 Gig phone from the Apple store on 5th Ave. Absolutely no problems buying it. They ask for a credit card and an email address (for sending your receipt to) and that's it. No stock issues, plenty of phones available.

Customs on the way home was no problem either. Have unlocked phone onto O2 pay as you go, am currently throwing on a few tracks.

try clicking on the jar file in the folder 1.1.2 rather than the bat file

    BTW
You should have tried to restore all settings on the 1.1.3 first before going into the downgrade jailbreak method

I had the same problem, I installed iWorld from the installer menu and it worked fine, I then managed to lock it by installing a stupid app, I restored it using iTunes, ran the Ziphone again (clicking the first 3 options only) and it worked a treat

Anyone find that since they loaded 1.1.3 their battery life is diabolical ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yeah, my battery life ain't great alright. But then again, I have no comparison as I went straight to 1.1.3. But my battery lasted from last Thursday night to Saturday evening. And on the second charge, from Saturday night to this evening (it's currently in the red). Didn't make that many phone calls either really.

But only have my e-mail checking every hour, my brightness on below average, always locked when not in use and keep it on Airplane Mode at night.

Have you tried making calls with it is the signal actually affecting your calls

In the UK there are numerous reports of signal issues on the o2 network since firmware 1.1.2

Try a different sim in it and see if your signal strength improves

If you have openssh installed install Bossprefs and turn openssh off when you are not using it

make sure bluetooth is off as well

Don't have OpenSSH installed actually.. was meant to. Yeah, Bluetooth is off.

Actually, I was just thinking.. what's the iPhone like with processes? What I mean is if I launch YouTube / Safari and I press the 'Home' key to exit it. But then when I go into Safari or YouTube, it always opens at the last thing I was it.

Is there a way to actually close them after use, as I assume pressing the 'Home' key simply dismissed them into the background? And surely this is a battery hog.

    Just re read your post
restoring the phone via itunes does not overwrite the baseband so the previous unlock will be there.

Going back to 1.1.1 will still leave you with the 04.03.13G (1.1.3) baseband firmware updating to 1.1.2 will still leave you with 04.03.13G (1.1.3) baseband as it is newer than the one that comes with 1.1.2

If there is a problem with the baseband then you have not changed it

There is an app in the installer that will downgrade your baseband downgrade it to 04.01.13 or ideally to 04.02.13 as you are on 1.1.2 then don't bother unlocking it
Just update to 1.1.3 that will give you a fresh 1.1.3 and a fresh (now locked again 04.03.13 then either use Ziphone and advanced and select AJU or AJ and use anysim 1.1.3

Thats assuming that you are on 3.9BL now

I dont think they are running in the background the way windows mobile does if they were then the iphone would quickly grind to a halt after a couple of apps the way WM does

    Yeah, probably.

I just assumed it behaves similarly to Mac OS X - simply dismissing an application (using the X in top-left) sends it into the background.

    Hi,

Some reason today my installer isnt working right. Anything I try to install, it downloads it first but then as it starts "checking package" it comes back with "Error - Package Download failed". I am running 1.1.2. Any ideas cos it was working fine yesterday.

As for battery life, seem to get about 2 days max outta it. Thats with only a small bit of safari and youtube usage.

That's all. Very efficient, no checkout even, just a guy with a handheld console that I swiped and then signed on a digital screen. Checked my email (on the IPhone!) this evening and the email had arrived about 20 mins after I bought the phone.

Holding the home button for about 5 seconds closes any applications that may be still running like you do if an application hangs.

Ahhhhh.. so you're saying simply tapping it may just send it into the background.

Try reinstalling the installer and the BSD subsystem

Have you many apps installed possible that you have no room to install anything else try uninstalling some see if that fixes it

I think it depends on the app and what it is doing at the time it may close it or it may allow it to continue what it was doing and then close it. I don't think it keeps them running like WM because it would grind to a halt the way WM does.

But to be sure to be sure holding the Home button shuts downany app running .
