I have done unlocked (to 1.1.2) 3 phones now using the method on i.unlock.no ,although one or two steps had to be added to complete but seems like a good site. Has anyone tried Ziphone yet?

I hate to piss on your parade but that method is not recommended.
Which basically means that developers are not developing for Natetrues (ibrickr) 1.1.3 jailbreak

Yeah , I know , it is a pissy solution , but as Oktoprep has disappeared from the installers it was my only option . Thinking about rolling back to 1.1.1 again as I miss the third party applications .

    Hey Guys,

I need your help, I've had a iPhone for about 2 months now (Running on 1.1.1) I've been using it as an iTouch as I've been locked into a 3 contract which will end this weekend. I think I'm going to stay on 1.1.1 for the time being as there seem to be way to many bugs or unknowns with 1.1.3.

My question is: I want to use my iPhone as much as possible including Edge, but I'm unsure which mobile operator offers the best mobile internet rates and coverage.

I was originally planning on using vodafone as they seems to have a good package 9.99 for 500MB but i believe (from reading this site) its is not possible for iPhone to use this rate.

    Which leaves O2 and Meteor,
    O2 Offers 250 MB for 7.50
Meteor Offers 250 MB for 9.99

Both plans are very similar, but I'm wondering which one existing iPhone users are using and what they of the coverage and speed ?.
I don't anticipate that I'd every go over 250MB a month as I will use it for checking email and coastal weather forecast (for water sports)

I'd appreciate if anyone can offer me advise on how they find 02 or Meteor on the iPhone

Maybe we can add the results of this post into the sticky for future users.

    Cheers Phil

    Hey

I have tried to read up about the iPhone but I really don't know enough about it to be able to answer my dad's questions. My dad's been on the lookout for a new phone for a while. He's in Paris this weekend and is just after seeing an iPhone and has fallen in love with it. He wants to know if it could be unlocked if he buys it over there. He's on Vodafone over here. It's €699 sim-free over there but it's €329 (or something) if he buys it on a ready-to-go.

Would he be able to unlock it if he gets the one for €329 or should he be buying the one for €699, coz would he still have to unlock it if it's "sim-free"?

Please help coz I really don't know what to say to him, and I don't want him going off to buy one if it won't work over here. Thanks everyone, really appreciate it! :)

i managed to get HTTP working over live.vodafone.com. info is here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6365. imap and pop3 still dont work, but 95% of what you need is web based... ive just signed a 12 month contract so im pretty stuck with voda at the moment...

i bought one in dubai for 300 euro unlocked works like a dream on meteor:mad: :)

I'm just thinking about the same thing. Where did you see 250Mb for €7 on o2????

I'm currently on Voda pre-pay but want to move to bill-pay. Voda's data is about €10 for 500Mbs i think. However, I have heard that Voda use an enhanced GPRS instead of Edge. 02 have edge and i think they've updated it in preparation of imminent iPhone launch?

Anyway, just need to figure out which one will suit iPhone better.

Tell him to buy the cheaper one the simfree is not complete simfree and to use third party apps he will have to jailbreak it anyway

Looking around the net generally there seems to be a lot of bugs with ZiPhone.

Tinkerbell buy the cheeper phone. You will be able to jailbreak it
You will be able to activate it
and you will be able to unlock it....

Install "iWorld" from the installer app. open the program and select Ireland from the list and restart the phone.

    Should work fine :D

First of all, apologies if the stuff I ask have been covered but arsed if i'm reading a 194 page thread! :D

I'm in the line for a new phone and as an Apple nut, the iPhone is looking seriously tempting and considering my girlfriend's parents are in the States right now and can get it for about €275, it seems like a good deal.

    Couple of questions for ye..

    (1) The girlfriends parents are far from tech savvy so if they go in wanting to buy an iPhone, will the staff in the store be hounding them with demands for AT&T contracts and such? They'd probably get confused and just abandon it.
    (2) If they bought a new iPhone now (in the States), would there be a problem with the firmware version? I know some of the firmwares are unlockable and some aren't. So would this be a problem with a newly bought one in the States.
    (3) How well are they compatible on O2? Any problems?

    Thanks in advance lads.

Another question for you guys (again, apologies if it has already been asked, I've been searching for a while for this with no luck)...

Currently, if someone buys an iphone in the USA, can it be activated through iTunes in the UK, so that it works on O2 UK (on their iphone contract)?

I'm asking this because I'm thinking of buying an iphone and unlocking it for the moment. But, when the official Irish release comes around, I'd like to just plug in my iphone, reset the firmware and subscribe to an Irish network contract (so that I can use all the features like visual voicemail).

Does you guys know if this is possible? I've heard conflicting reports.

    Thanks.

Just tell them in the shop you want the phone. You could be setting the contract up on line for all they know. Generally they dont care once they get the sale.

As of now all firmware incl 1.1.3 can be Activated, jailbroke & unlocked

    Works with O2 no problems

I just got home from work and had a Brand New 16GB iPhone sitting there waiting for me :) I dunno how the people at iphonesimsolutions even unlocked it, it looks like its never even bee opened.

Everything is working perfectly, i checked the settings page and it is at 1.1.3 Version with 04_02_13_G Firmware so im assuming it is on the 4.6 bootloader, should i download the bootloader to 3.9 using ziphone 2.2 and try and unlock the 04_03_13_G Firmware or should i just leave it alone??

Help would be much appreciated :) Also, anyone have any suggestions for some good Apps to install??

It wouldn't have been opened its a software unlock.
Why would you want to downgrade to unlock.?
Thought you said it was unlocked?

It depends on how upset you would be if you ended up with a brick

    Downgrading the bootloader is risky

I presume he meant the box and packaging not the phone

    koolkid wrote: »

Thought you said it was unlocked?

Downgrading to bootloader 3.9 allows the phone to run the lastest firmware version unlocked which is not currently possible on 4.6

Logistics is your big problem but if you can get it back to america you may be able to bring it to an Apple store.
