I'm going to be careful what I say here, so as not to offend fellow posters on this thread. However, unlockthatiphone.com clearly went through a period of very poor customer service recently, according to posters on this thread. Eventually, however, these issues seem to have been resolved (albeit much later than would been considered reasonable).

PowerHouseDan, a proven, valuable poster on this thread, is now showing affiliation with the company and I'm hoping this is a good thing, for the sake of future customers. Often (but not always) new blood in a company can do it the world of good. Though in reality, of course, we're not exactly talking about a large multi-national.

I am not trying to be baleful here, but I do think it's important to remember that only a few pages ago on this thread, legal action against unlockthatiphone.com was being discussed and considered by some of the firm's (then) jilted customers.

Bottom line, I genuinely hope that unlockthatiphone.com and its' affiliates have learned from their previous experiences, and realise that becoming a reseller of the Stealthsim is a chance for them to make a come back and restore the high opinion that their customers once held.

Quick question lads - how is it that there are iphones on say ebay or adverts.ie that are selling as unlocked? - is it safe enough to buy these?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

only New Iphone ootb(out of the box) cannot be unlocked.Which are running firmware 1.1.2. You want to make sure thats it not that. Jailbreaking allows you to use the iphone features but not the phone. The Older iphones can be software unlocked but the new ones cannot. If you doubt give us a link and and we can give advice.

I have encountered a small problem while activating my 1.1.2 ootb. I downgraded the firmware ok to 1.1.1 and was going through the activating stage and typed in the first URL prefs://1F I then left the phone for a sec and it autolocked. I now can't get past the emergency call stage calling *#307# wont get me back into the phone to add the new URL and Activate the phone. Do I have to downgrade to 1.0.2 and then back up?

    Thanks

Ok saw the above iphone on ebay? - what you guys reckon safe enough to buy?

just one last thing - whats this about: "Use only with iTunes 7.4 "
Like i said before, i'm not really a wiz kid with technology, but really want this phone, look savage, and with wifi, ipod all in one....

one last stupid qusetion, how does one transfer the songs say on my lappy onto the iphone, this may sound stupid, but i never bothered with an ipod, recently bought the nokia 8800 sirocco, only to find that it was bluetooth and my lappy isn't and that i had to buy a cable to transfer the music - would i have to do the same and if so does the cable come with it - or could i just transfer from the sirocco to the iphone though bluetooth...

Thanks for all the help lads

    -Ace-

You can get a bluetooth adapter for your laptop for a tenner try here
I think you'd be better of getting a 16gb iPod Touch - it's the same thing without the phone and the crap camera - still has wifi video etc and it's thinner
Either way you'll need to put iTunes on your laptop to transfer the music - it'll convert it for you when you install it and sync it with your iPod/iPhone
Oh - and I wouldn't touch that phone on eBay - seller rating is too low! Last time he sold anything was August 2006

Panic over. I put the phone into recovery mode and kicked it out of recovery with ibrickr and was able to pick up where I left off. Phew

    right lads see this

"Today that has become a reality, the price has now risen to €599 for an 8GB Unlocked iPhone as the Stealth SIM price has to be added on. On the upside of this, all iPhones now come with free cases and and the e-commerce fee of €20 per phone has been abolished. Even with this price increase, we are still the cheapest Unlocked iPhone Seller within Europe."

    from http://www.unlockthatiphone.com/

Is this exactly wat i'm lookin for(an unlocked iphone that will work on any irish network) or is there a catch....

As it is advertised, it is what you are looking for. It is an unlocked Iphone that can be used on any Irish network (except Three).

sweet - so its safe enough to buy? and if i'm asked to update anythin and i do it won't lock? - right now just have to figure out how i pay for it(as in wat methods)

The thing is if apple update the Bootloader then there WILL be a unlock but if they dont update it then it wont be possible to unlock like now, So why would apple update it if they dont need to and success in blocking unlocking?Thats why myself and unlockthatiphone are looking for supply a hardware version that also wont void your warrenty :)

Dan i don't think that they need a new bootloader to unlock the 1.12

My understanding and I could be wrong is that they need a new baseband firmware as bootloader 1.12 only allows them to rewrite the baseband with a newer baseband not a hacked version of the current one. ( hence the removal of the equals sign)

The bootloader is you are correct unlikely to be updated but the baseband will have to be updated to allow the iphone to be launched in any new countries (such as Ireland). it is why the iworld hack was developed to fix the crashing with sms and phone numbers from countries not supported by 1.12
So whilst Apple may be happy to sit on the current 1.12 if they want to roll it out into any new countries they will have to update and if they want to make their target of 10 million sales they need to roll it out.
Also the promised release of the SDK in February would more than likely require a firmware update.

So bottom line is that Apple have to update it (not the bootloader the baseband) although it could be a few weeks away or months or it could be tomorrow no one knows. (except Steve Jobs)

Yes but you are paying 120 euro to them to jailbreak and fit the stealthsim card ( actually unless you send them your current sim card you will have to fit the sim yourself anyway so it is 120 for a jailbreak)

if you buy the phone in the North ( presuming it does not cost you €120 to get there ) it costs about €400 the stealthsim from Dan will cost you 80 so 480 against 599 if you do it yourself

In fairness that guy is only offering the sale on a pick up meet in person in dublin basis.

If the phone is not as advertised you would not have to part with any cash seems relatively safe as long as you meet in a public place and know what you are looking at

The Iphone will re-lock if you update the Iphone's firmware (or should I say, do so "incorrectly"). Basically, don't update to a future firmware version until you've read it's safe, and how to do it. However, if you do not update the Iphone's firmware, it will remain unlocked.

Apple could update and close the loophole that allows the stealthsim to work anytime in the future and if solutions like the stealthsim become more popular then the chances are greatly increased that Apple will close that loophole.

So DONT update until you are sure it is safe.

Its nothing to do with the firmware. the bootloader at present is 4.6 thats what needs to be updated in order to get the unlock and get the sec pack from it. But if they released 1.1.3 without a upgrade which they will as they have no reason in doing so why would they.

Very True its a very hard loophole to fix though cos your tricking the phone to think its using at&t for us phone and o2 for uk phone, They might eventually fix it but i dont think its going to be any time soon they will be happy enough they have stopped software unlocked.

    Hi Dan / people

Congrats on the Stealth Sim acquisition. My question is, do I need to buy one? I'm happy enough sticking with 1.02 as 1.1.1 & even 1.1.2 doesn't include any extra functionality that I need. When they sort out text/mms messaging, maybe I'll upgrade. I can even put up with no message minder texts as I've set MM to call me instead of text when I've a message (vodafone)

    What do you think?

And by the way people, I've used unlockthatiphone to get my toy back in September & have been very happy with them. Bad PR aside, PowerHouseDan will def help out with the customer service.

Obviously it is not 1.12 that is the problem as I have 1.12 on this phone what is that 4.6 will not allow a current or former version of the secpac to be written the secpac is not the bootloader nor does it require a new bootloader merely a new secpac.
so when they can unlock 1.12 they will not be able to unlock 1.13 as they will need the secpac from 1.14 even though the bootloader can stay at 4.6
again apple will have no option but to update the baseband firmware and with it the secpac when they want to expand the roll out.

The stealtsim only issues the AT&T or o2 ID at particular times that it knows the phone will look for them all apple have to do is change the times it looks or ask for the ID again
simple enough for apple to write into the firmware and will stop the current stealthsims from working
