    Are there reception issues in the uk? Wasnt aware of that. I no the problem with "Offical Unlocked phones" not working in some countrys because they are not supported but works with iworld.

    No completely different issue it apparently does not affect software unlocked iphones ie 3.9BL
    but low or no signals while other o2 handsets in the same location are getting full signal and unlocked iphones are getting full signal.

    Seems to indicate that it is a firmware issue not an o2 network issue

    Quickly Fix DNS Settings on the iPhone

    * Go to Settings.
    * Select Wi-Fi.
    * Chose a network.
    * Select the blue arrow next to the network you are connected to.
    * Select DNS.
    * Change the IP Address to 208.67.222.222 or else to the ip address of your router.ie
    IP Address 192.168.1.100
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Router 192.168.1.1
    DNS 192.168.2.1

    thats 1 quick fix solution.

    Do you need your sim inserted to use wifi? I'm trying to connect to my wireless network at home (goes through a Belkin 54g router & no password set) and when i try to open safari on my iphone it says it cant connect because it cant find server. Any ideas? I've tried resetting the network settings but no luck.

    in your wifi settings does it show you as being connected to your network

    does your phone have an IP address

    try putting your routers gateway IP address as your DNS server

    would indeed and they are paying o2 customers

    might be why Apple will have to update even if they would prefer not too

    That IP address is wrong it looks like a public IP address

    You should have a local IP address like 192.168.xx.xx

    your DNS servers are from clearwire so I presume that is your ISP.

    I never used Clearwire what way is it set up is your desktop or laptop connected directly to the router via a lan cable or via wireless.

    if you turn on your comp presuming its windows go to start then run in the box type cmd black box will open type ipconfig/all and then hit enter a list of stuff will come up
    what is your IP address is it the same as the one that your iphone is showing

    also note your default gateway and DNS servers

    I have no experience with clearwire but from the detail provided the IP address looks like a public IP and that could mean that your router is in bridge mode where it is just passing on the IP from your isp and not working as a router at all.
    maybe that is the way Clearwire works I don't know did the router come from clearwire or did you install it yourself do you have a separate modem or receiver from clearwire

    Ok so i think i've found a sim free iphone from a seller that i've bought off before so think i'll be getting it, just to make sure on a few things: If i'm asked to update anything, do i just say no? and if i buy the phone, how does one get music onto it - just through bluetooth? or do i have to put some software onto my laptop and also get a bluetooth thing that i can plug into the lappy which will then send the songs to my iphone?

    Thanks

    Have you got the link before you buy?You turn off automatic updating.the music goings onto it via the usb cable you get with it.No the bluetooth on the iphone does not have profiles all you can hook it up to is the bt headset. You will need to install itunes for music etc.

    well its from a shop in town - so no i don't have a link. I emailed him yestersday just wondering about information about when they would be out etc, and he said it will be out in march on O2, but that he could get me a sim free one. I bought the sirocco 8800 off him before so i reckon that it will be grand..

    Hi all, iPhone user from early November currently on 1.1.1 unlocked on Vodafone.

    Very happy with the phone, bought it on e-bay. Thankfully, a 5 series screen so none of the problems many in the UK are having.

    Loving it so far, have customised and everything s great. Got rid of the "call forwarding" alert, did the tweaks to match up the contacts list to al formats, voicemail working, did my own theme on summerboard etc etc. Great phone, useful in so many ways. I love the Stocks apps, have all the irish companies in there and exchange rates etc etc, and the web browser is the real USP for this imho.

    BUT one problem has been roaming abroad....

    Started in Dubai, it was was working fine when I landed and for days after on the local Etislat network. Then turning it off one night, next day "No Service". Everything seemed fine, no IMEI problems and it could pick up the various networks under Settings>Carrier. But could not hook up.

    A 35 Euro phone call to Vodafone from my hotel and they stated that Roaming was off! Even though it been on and working. The iPhone obviously does something and I think it's to do with Data roaming....It was on when I got to Dubai. Turned it off and then the iPhone off and when turned back on the No Service.

    Same think in the UK 2 weeks ago. Immediately onto Vodafone UK when I landed and off Airplane Mode but then switched it off and I think switched Data Roaming off, and when turned back on the dreaded "No Service"....

    I have discussed this with Vodafone, they know I am using an iPhone and have basically said best to take another phone with me in case!!!

    cdebru is correct.

    It looks like your router is set to clone your WAN IP address. Quickest and easiest solution:

    1. Hard reset your router.
    2. Setup wifi security on your router.
    3. Connect your Iphone to the new network.

    well no not exactly - he said that he could get me a sim free iphone if i wanted it. the company have 2 shops in dublin, i don't really want to name the company - cause if i do - i'd say loads of people will be on to him, and i don't know wheater or not he would want that, since the phone itself is not advertised(as far as i'm aware) on their website.

    Greetings all!!

    Again another - possibly stupid - question.

    While attempting to downgrade to 1.1.1 I stumbled on a problem. A message popped up on the screen when I connected my iPhone saying "This iPhoner cannot be used because it requires Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later." My iBook has OS X 10.3.9.

    What do I do?? Can I download an upgrade or do I need to purchase one? Aaarrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

    OK wierd problem i thought i might post.
    Was at home and took a call on the iphone. no issue untill the call ended. The Iphone appeard to freeze on the Screen to "End Call".
    After a few mins it appeard that the creen would update at 2 min intervals??? strange

    I called the iphone and while the phone i used rang out there was nothing on the IPhone???

    I tried to power off and still nothing doing..

    Poped it into the dock and still nothing doing. Then i noticed my router had crashed out. Once i unplugged this the Iphone fierd up and restarted itself in the dock and all was good.
    It looked like that when the router hung this hung the Iphone as it was on the WIFI at the time. This is happend twice and each time i dock the Iphone and restart the router and all good>!!!

    I dont know about the router but your description of the iphone freezing is quite common with iphones. Many times my screen has stayed black when I want to wake it up but it's still on (it rings when you call from another phone but it doesn't "ring out"-just stays looking dead). However, all you have to do is reset it by holding down the home and on/off butons at the same time.

    It's a free update. Just run Software Update and it should pick up 10.4.11 which will do ya.
