It says on paypal that you can start a dispute but that it has to be within 45days of ordering and "When you pay with PayPal, you gain access to a forum for dispute resolution called the Resolution Center. Through it, you can file a claim against:

    * A physical good that you paid for but never received.

    * A physical good you purchased on eBay that is significantly different than what was described in the listing."

So this situation would fall under the first one. I'm hoping against hope that it wont come to that i.e. i'll get my happy ending - my iphone!

    Hi,

Thankfully, I just received a confirmation email from unlockthatiphone.com. Panic can subside now. I was informed that due to the new updates on the phones they now need stealth sims to unlock the phones and thats what the hold up is. Supposedly receiving them Friday & phones should be shipped the same day. Fingers crossed

Hi Moorele, sorry to put a dimmer on things but I ordered my iPhone in late October and hung around until the end of November waiting for it, I've heard nothing but excuses from Stephen, and it was always 'you should have it on friday' there customer service used to be great but they offer nothing but false promises now. I even ordered an apple headset from them on the same date and never received it even though they had them in-stock, again excuses. In the end they refunded my money.

I would encourage anyone who has ordered to try and retrieve there money, if they truly are genuine they wont mind giving people refunds until they have resolved there issues. They should update there website to reflect the problems there having instead of taking peoples money.

Thanks for letting me know that... I appreciate it. I will wait & see if I hear anything Friday. If not, like I said, I will go ahead & try get a refund...

i was wondering, can i just walk into the apple store and buy an i-phone and not have to sign anything? can i then turn the phone on and start using it (not for phone functions) for use as an ipod, camera, wifi etc.....

    thanks again

My understanding is you cannot just start using the functions, ipod wifi etc, you have to perform a jailbreak on the phone. Google it, I don't know much more about it. I also believe you don't have to sign the contract in the store, its something you do later via itunes

Thats correct, you dont have to sign any contract in the apple store.Your ment to do that via itunes to get the phone up and running but by passing it via jailbreaking it allows you to use the phone, but in order to use the iphone as a phone you need to get it unlocked so you can still use wifi, ipod etc till then.

Here is an interesting method that has been proven to work for 1.1.2. It's much cheaper than TurboSIM and StealthSIM and works in the same way. It involves copying the serial number and IMSI cards from the AT&T card and copying them to a MagicSIM and then placing your own SIM into the MagicSIM. I'm going to give this method a try, just ordered a MagicSIM and a SIM reader/writer from ebay. Bought together cost only €20 delivered.
Let us know how you get on jester I see a bit of discussion on whether this can actually work or not.

It tells me to connect to itunes for account info, but when i connect nothign happens and i cant find any settings for this????

Have you upgraded the phone back to 1.12 after you did the jailbreak in 1.11

Yeah, I'm following that discussion with interest. What hasn't been figured out yet is if IMSI switching will work on the MagicSIM like it does on the TurboSIM. Plus I'm after finding out this morning that my SIM card is a type n3 SIM card and these don't work with TurboSIM right now. So I might hold off for a bit now and see what happens as this may also be an issue for the MagicSIM. I fly home on Friday for xmas and probably won't receive the MagicSIM before then, so my first chance to try this out will be in the new year. Might even be a software unlock by then!

Hi I got a second email from unlockthatiphone.com today apologising & explaining for the lack of contact & updating me on the situation regarding the phones. Just wondering did any of the rest of you receive the same & what do you think? I feel a bit better especially regarding the option of a refund if it doesnt progress by next tuesday!

    Moorele,
What is the situation re phones from unlockthatiphone? Are they still shipping with firmware 1.1.1 or is the delay caused due to firmware 1.1.2?

    Cheers,

Delay is due to 1.1.2 - they need stealth sims to get around the problem! They are in the process of making a deal with stealth sims to be the european suppliers & are hoping to receive their first batch of the sims on friday. Thats what the email said anyways! So fingers crossed i'll have my iphone next monday or tuesday!!!

it will be interesting to see how much they charge existing users for StealthSIM, I found the following link to buy it in the states (expensive enough)
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Unlock-iphone-1-1-2-OTB-with-StealthSIM-Easy-to-Use_W0QQitemZ200183440746QQihZ010QQcategoryZ64355QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

is there any sign of anysim 1.1.2 version for unlocked 1.1.1 users?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

I actually applied to be a reseller for the stealthsim but the fact unlockthatiphone have been in contact i think i will back down and leave it to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

At the moment if you buy it from the only official reseller, it costs €100 delivered of which €40 is for postage. So at least with an Irish seller you would be looking at around €65 delivered. Still a bit much though when you consider what it is!
