Well, when I'm in NZ I'll rely on you to reply to my drunken middle of the night posts (when everyone's in work here) and my sensible posts when I'm at work (when everyone here is trollied!)

Apologies for my absence! I'm terribly sorry. The boys stole me! How can I ever repay you all! I know, martinis on me!

I'm going to Wellington. That's where my bf is from. Seriously, counting down the days!

Da da da dum, da da da dum! (wedding march!)

Only messing, after a year you should be able to get the partnership visa I was telling you about before. You might have to come back to Ireland for a few weeks though!

How's everything out there? We're seriously regretting our timing. When we go in April we're going from the end of one winter to the beginning of another. We didn't plan that out! What the weather like there at the moment?

it's really "muggy" there at the mo... 32/33 degrees yesterday, apparently. im home, actually, since last monday, leaving again on steven's day.

there's a possibility that i may be able to get a company to sponsor me, was mingling at a wedding the other week, and a woman there was telling me her company do it, and the work sounds good to me, so i've been given a number to call and a name to mention, and i guess ill work from tehre.

Go for it! It's all about the contacts! Will she sponsor me as well?!

i think it may be a south island thing... but she's a best friend of one of my b/f's best friends, so of course, had heard about me, etc, and at the wedding, we were chatting and the obvious 'so what are you doing over here/what kinda visa' etc ice breakers were used, and i mentioned how i dnot have a job yet, what area i work in, and how im hoping to avoid the da da dadom, da da dadom option in favour of a work visa.

oh yeah.... that was fun... I was half asleep at the time so I was slightly confused for a moment...

see, the worst thing about that, is that, if you look at it... you'll realise i wrote that post on saturday, referring to friday. though that one was only about a sentence long, due to my being completely incapable of texting. i'd just been talkign to you before the one you mentioend, and absentmindedly and sleepily sent it to you instead of him.

man, someone needs to just take this phone away from me.

Can't you get a 2 year visa for there now?

Ha. thats mad, look at us all with our pet Kiwis :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,367 ✭✭✭✭watna

They do make excellent pets! Good kiwi, good boy! They just come over here and steal all the jobs and women!

I haven't heard of a 2 year visa, think that may be for uk residents. You can get a partnership visa, which you don't have to be married for or anything!

You just have to have lived together for at least a year and prove you're in a monogamous, stable and commited relationship. You have to give them photos of you together and proof of financial transactions (e.g we have a joint account and bills are paid in both our names). You also have to prove you're in a monogamous sexxual relationsihip which I thought was strange.... do you have to show them a video of you doing it or something!

Anyway, it seems it's easy enough to obtain if you are a genuine couple.

God bless the liberal kiwis, my other half couldn't get a "partnership visa" from me to stay here. There'd have to be rings on fingers!

Yeah, thats the Defacto thing, they have it in Oz too. And it's easier to getting residency over there aswell. It's such a pain in the hole here, trying to sort out ways in which he can stay. There are feck all options
We were thinking of saying he's a refugee on the run from the Maoris.

That's a good one! They're after him with their big war dancing sticks!

What does he do for a living? My other half works in IT so he was able to get one of those "needed professions" visas or whatever they call them. It was great. His company flew him home last year so he could renew it. Free trip home for him!

bah, wish i'd known about that two year visa thing, im part english on both sides of my family, so am entitled to a passport. though as far as things go now, i can get my visa extended to 23 months apparently, and im hoping to get jobs in both childcare and elderly care, hopefully one of them will keep me on, and after that, i'll have been there long enough to get the citizenship thing.

where will you be heading to, windsock? i vaguely remember talking to you at the beers over the summer, but that was a while ago, and i was drunk, and im no good at remembering people... ill remember you next tmie, cos i've been on the boards longer and 'know' more people by post.

Yeah, thats him alright. He also moonlights as a murderous flagellating albino.
Unfortunatley there is no need for either of those over here :(

Nah, my time is up in NZ. I was living in Christchurch. Thats where you're headed, if I recall correctly.

yep, sin é :) nice place. i HATE the road system though... they're all too long, it's impossible to orientate myself when i get lost... 'oh, im on kilmore street, that must mean im whereinabout i wnat to be... oh... kilmore street goes on for a thousand miles either direction... i could be anywhere'... then i get lost and end up wandering in waaaay hot conditions for a few hours and get dehydrated and sunburnt and cranky. and then i find the beach, and im happy, and i call a friend, cos he lives near the beach, and he rescues me and bring me home.

    awww.. i miss new zealand.
