    Mod fight :D

    Mods don't fight.
    We all get along.
There has never been a disagreement between mods. FACT.

I agree with Terry on all counts about everything (Except wrestling... that's just daft.)

what are the current strict policies you feel we have that you dont agree with?
Tolerance with comments that used to be just considered typical after hours responses for one.

    You just say "no" Karoma!

IT'S HILLLLARRRIOOOOOUSSSS! LET'S GO SPAM IT EVERYHWERES!

Hail 2 Da Chimp: I say no; but apparently my eyes say otherwise. It is for this reason I 'read' and post to boards with the assistance of a Text-to-Speech-and-to-Text system (but sitting comfortably as I do so.)
Thank you for your concern and feedback. I'll be sure to pass the suggestion on to YORE MAAAAAAAAAA. ahahaha!! It's hilarious. Really.

It's 'illustrating a point' in an obnoxious manner - the "typical after hours" way.
Just so we're clear: "Yore ma" has not been banned; it has been reduced to occasions where it is in context and remotely amusing. It is something that required/s policing. You think that's sad and pathetic? I think that's sad and pathetic; but damn necessary. It's a damned stupid rule that we had to implement and enforce because of "typical after hours". If you people learned moderation (Not naming names...but rather, usernames: i.e. YOU, BINOMATE) we would all have a lot more fun. We could avoid the tedium of excess.

There should be an anything goes policy here when it comes to moderating unless it blatently goes against the charter i.e. porn links, serious personal abuse etc. Locking threads based on a moderators personal taste shouldn't happen. Whether you think it's the content is good or not should be irrelivant and shouldn't decide the fate of the thread.

An example is the locking of all christmas threads that have been posted so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,396 ✭✭✭✭Karoma

Ya see, you're making the mistake of associating 'anything goes' with 'everything goes' as in 'everything goes in AH, even if there's a more suitable forum for the thread and 'everything goes in AH like racism, and 3 pages of petty name-calling'. We give you a lot of leeway. We have to draw the line somewhere. I think most of the threads in AH are shite, so I don't know where you're getting the impression that I lock threads based on personal tastes.
Again, the Christmas thread locking is in response to the amount of bitching in previous years. Try to remember back to the BEFORE TIEM.

can you not just lob all christmas threads into the christianity forum, (all of them, even ones started on xmas eve about times shops and pubs close).

    really?
    says who?

the vast majority of rules in AH have been cogged together from suggestions and opinions of ordinary users. Id suggest that AH is actually the most fairest forum on this site when it comes to be an anything goes policy.
but that doesnt mean we have to have anarchy.

but what if the users dont want it?
    then its ok?

how many times have we read posts by people saying there is too much this rubbish posted, or too much of that rubbish posted.
mods try and moderate to the best of their abilities, and we wont always make decisions you agree with.

i think we manage to keep the vast majority of users happy, the vast amount of the time. We dont always get it right, but the vast majority of the time, i think we do.

although, it would be nice if the other moderators would stop ****ing around on this thread and **** off if they havent actually got anything constructive to add other than 'yore ma' *hint hint*....

youve lost me with that one.
although if Karoma spamming yore ma all over the place is anything to go by, that may be it.

its not banned. i was kind of hoping for some feedback other than a personal gripe over a catch phrase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,396 ✭✭✭✭Karoma

It was a hint and an obnoxious way of illustrating a point. I'll behave.

Re: Christmas threads. Seriously: Each year (This year has seen no change), people bitch about there being Christmas threads way ahead of Christmas. This year, we're seriously cutting them down. We have people bitching about that. At the moment, the majority are being closed while we review the situation.
I'm OK with the AH-Standard Xmas threads (The daft, the stupid, the generic) being left in AH (Created in December.) and everything else being locked but I'd ask that feedback be provided in the thread created specifically for this issue as it may be a long discussion and a poll can help somewhat. We have to find some balance on this one, and some proper feedback in that thread is welcomed.

I have a problem with AH, specifically with the moderator "WhiteWashMan". I remember the days when he was really grumpy and wouldn't tolerate any crap, not hesitating to ban or lock. Every second feedback thread was a complaint about him. Now he's gone all nice and user-friendly, asking the opinions of lowly users and being helpful. Pah.

    :)

i have learned that a forum runs more smoothly and more enjoyably when everyone gets a say on how its run.

as ive always said, moderators are only there to ensure the forum runs smoothly, not to make up rules, ram them down everyones throats or to be some sort of patrolling military police.

having said that, there are some things we do have to keep an eye out for te simple reason that there are certain things we dont allow, or cant allow, or wont allow. and we are always going to get people who dont agree. while i take on board the complaints that people have, and i understand them. hey, i even occassionaly sypathise with them, but again, there are simply some things that cannot be tolerated, and wont allow. so that small proportion of people will just have to accept that we cant change everything to cuit the very very small minotiry of people that get annoyed sometimes

over all though, i think the mods have done a fantastic job on this forum. this forum is run very differently from whe way it was a few years ago. people thought it worked well enough back then, but i think it works better now. sometimes, it goes to prove tht change for changes sake can work. you just have to do it carefully. there have been many discussions in theboards.ie HQ backroom/poker room on how to make this forum run smoothly. it went form the hell on wheels it was, the breaker of mods everywhere, to a rather pleasant place to talk crap. the only thing that hasnt changed is the standard of posting. but thats subjective, and its not the remit of a moderator to enforce some sort of posting standard. so yis are stuck with yer own ****e, so to speak :)

other than that, im happy with the way thing are going, and i get the impression that most users here are as well. i cant ask for much more.

I can certinly agree with that after soo many years of modding in here(granted i had been quiet for a while), there were times ild doubt my own sanity modding you lot, but thats besides the point, what i will say is that the other mods in here do a great job, and have been for some time, and while some may expect me to be as ruthless as I once was, with reagards to enforcing the rules, Ive been following the standard that these guys, particuallarly wwman have set.

However, that said, the one thing this place will always need is stricter moderation than other forums as has been proved many times in the past, give an inch and some of you will try and take a mile. An unfortunate truth.

What I can't understand is the reluctance of the moderators to delete offensive posts or threads... there is a fashion on these forums to just lock the thread, resulting in the lockout of people who were interested in engaging in a proper discussion and also the preservation of dumbass comments by attention seeking halfwits who crave adoration for witty comments.

The offensive and crass comments in the Katy French thread remain for all to see. Meanwhile, someone who wished to leave condolences, like myself, is prevented from doing so because the thread was locked. SO the retards have won, push it so far that you get the thread locked.

How about some moderator actually develops a pair of balls and deletes the f**king thread, instead of locking it and leaving it for all to see... like the recent thread in after hours (taxi driver thread) playing about with racist double entendres, every poster trying to outdo the last with casually disguised racism.. along comes a moderator and just locks the thread??! What is the point of being a moderator if you don't step up and discourage dumbass losers with racist tendencies from having a laugh across a public forum?

    Posts were deleted.

The thread was not deleted to serve as a precedent and warning to the idiots and to outline the policy (No more KF threads in AH) and the reason behind it. I don't want to answer in threads and PM's where the thread disappeared to.
Posts were deleted - about 21 of them in fact.
There were two or three bans as well.
The thread was locked as it was simply too much effort to keep it open. There was another thread on the matter in another forum at the same time that could have been used, but that was a disaster too. This thread may be soft deleted in a few hours.

The taxi thread about the stolen passport? That was clearly tongue-in-cheek the most part. Pfft.

I'm not the Politically Correct Police. AH is what it is - a relatively relaxed forum with relatively relaxed rules. We let a lot slide when it's not harming people and tend to react and pro-actively lock, ban, and delete in an overzealous manner which may I point out we are also being accused of for the actions taken in those threads? We cannot win.

Untwist your knickers and get some facts straight before posting again.

Tongue in cheek? Just retarded, if you ask me.
I seriously doubt the thread a few pages back in AH about the taxi driver serves any purpose, anyone with half a brain doesn't need to read rubbish like that to be discouraged from wearing their racist hat for the evening. Such nonsense. Given the amount of crap that goes under the radar here, I'd hazard a guess that it was left there for amusement. Why can't you delete it? What is the bloody point? Is it because a few regular posters contributed to the racist hilarity? It's a certainty that if that thread was started by someone with less than 25 posts it would be trashed straight away. maybe you should take your knickers off your head and read the thread. I can't understand how it isn't deleted.
