There's a film shoot going on this week at Greystones harbour, "George Gently" is the name of the programme, set in 1960s Yorkshire. Strolling by last night there were 3 cars, a Wolseley, a Triumph 2000 i think, the one that looks similar to the Rover P6, and another car. Reg's were A and B, which is '63 & '64. Passing by on my way to work this morning and there were about 10 cars, including a Rover P5.

    It's a Skoda, i'm afraid I don't know the model. Rear-engined, though.

The Skoda is up the road from me in Cobh, it's a Check import and the bus in in Halfway on the Cork road to Innishannon, you can see it from the road, there's loads of other old trucks, cars, steam engines and even a train there too I think.

Here's a few I spotted in Dublin city centre yesterday.

1972(?) Mercedes Benz 280SE 3.5 in a yard on Grantham Place.

Some sort of Dublin registered military truck in the same yard presumably decommissioned as the Army insignia is covered with a plastic bag.

    MilitaryTruckSI328.jpg

VW Beetle on John Street South.

    VWBeetle1300ZV8606.jpg

And another Beetle on Pleasants Street.

The BMW above is a class machine isn't it ??

That 280SE 3.5 has been doing the rounds for well over a year now. Its damaged along the passenger side and was bought in the UK at the start of last summer. It was shipped across to an MB expert who discovered quite a bit more rust than was realised and quoted for the restoration. The owner didn't want to spend the money so it was shipped to somewhere near Naas and placed for sale. It was bought by someone else then and I expect it has met the same fate,i.e its current owner hasn't the funds to start it right now !

Pity as they are a superb car ! ;)

The BMW driver must be talented. He parked a Batmobile true and straight in the wet :)

    Mike.

yep, i nearly got mown down trying to cross so i could have a good nosey :D

And here's where I get Pedantic:)
The Batmobile was the same bodyshape but initially a 3.1 then a 3.3L motor, Ali Bonnet, Boot and Door skins , and the CSL without the spoiler was the roadgoing version , that is a nice one you've spotted It's either a 2800/ or a 3.0 CS or Csi E9 , methinks it belongs to a fellow called Peter , if not then there's another one i did'nt know about in Ireland,
Was the Roof painted or Vinyl??
Parking in the wet?? They're a beautifully balanced car , handle superbly but they dont normally come out in the wet as you can hear them rust!

Forgive the story but they're my passion, I have two, one in SA and one here in final stages in Galway.
    Regards

Yeah I think it is a 3.0CS, I've seen it before. The roof is painted silver as you can just see, probably vinyl originally !

some classics I took pictures of. Picture quality is not good. All of the cars are original Irish regds. Im not sure if they are everyday cars or just taken out for show. I know the Granada is an everyday car.

Spotted this '89 Renault 21 last night is Terenure. It was in excellent condition. A far better car to the Laguna.

    image016ea4.jpg

Crappy picture quality from my crappy phone.

I never thought I'd see the day when a Renault 21 would be regarded as a classic car, standards are falling fast.:)

Great post, I love to see old everyday cars still on the roads. Funny how we don't miss them until they are gone.

    2007_1017First_Pic0010.jpg
A bit of me died inside seeing those 2CV's and the classic Lite Ace van on the way to the crusher. There should be laws preventing people from doing this!

I myself have seen a few original Irish-reg. cars about lately, no pictures I'm afraid:

Daihatsu Charmant (on 'ZG' plates) at Harold's Cross last week.
    Daihatsu Charade ('SI' plates)
    Mazda 323 ('SI' plates)
VW Jetta (didn't catch the reg. fully, I think it may have been 'PZU')
Opel Kadett Mk1 (few weeks back, can't remember the reg.)

Good to see some people aren't giving into 'reg. plate snobbery' and 'having' to buy a new car to keep up with the Jones'.

It could be argued that driving a pre '87 reg is a form of snobbery! After all, almost anyone can run a '07, whereas a pre '87 car could cost a fortune. :D
