Hell no, Atheist, Understated style with a tinge of rust.No Fun fur, overstated Chrome or a pair of stuffed dice hanging from the rear view mirror to balance the nodding dog in the Rear Parcel shelf.
Must admit that the girls do look and wave when I drive past but that may just be pity.

Great to see someone using a 912, brave parking it in a carpark! Looks like a shopping centre too, damned shopping trolleys...
I haven't see that one around before.

That Transporter is a very early one (78 -80 max), as the air intakes are steel and part of the bodyshell and not plastic inserts as in later ones.

That would also make it one with an aircooled engine and it wouldn't have the second (lower) grille on the front

    frontlargelw3.th.jpg I'll get me anorak :D

Saw this '87 Toyota Carina II yesterday in Castleknock. It was in good condition. I know it's probably not a 'classic car' so to speak, but they are considerably rare now these days.

Agreed, its amazing how many once common as muck 80's cars have dissapeared so quickly.

 I see lots of Carina II's around and quite a few of the previous model that came out around 84/85. I didn't think they were worthy of snapping! :)

I've no idea if this is going to work, but anyway - saw this vw in Dundrum SC recently. Love these!

Fair point on the carina II's,i agree there is alot of them still around, though im sure some one someday will be collecting them, manys the early RWD carina(who remembers those?) that was scrapped because no one was interested, now it would be interesting to see one of those on the road:)

I was attacked a few months ago in this forum when I said a RWD Carina in a tesco car park looked pretty cool. I was basically told it was a worthless piece of crap, and they should have all been scrapped.

The Classic definition is being stretched to breaking point again! ;)

Well im with you maidhc, the reason they are interesting is because they were nearly all scrapped! My 100A cherry is the same,no notice taken when they were in every street, now every time i take it out someone always comes up to ask me about it,either to ask what it is or tell some story of someone they knew owning one, to my mind that makes our hobby interesting:) apologies if im stepping on someones toes:o

Well in fairness, a 100A Cherry would be a lot more interesting than a Carina. Give the Carina another 10/15 years and it may get interesting.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I was surprised as many to see a Carina at the Terenure show during last summer (the one with the 'HIV' reg.)

I myself prefer to see old 70's/80's everyday cars (such as those that were common back in the day but are virtually extinct now) rather than supercars and what not on the roads. They are the vehicles that bring us back down memory lane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Maybe the carinaII will have to wait a bit alright, but id say a RWD carina is as interesting as my cherry, but im a sucker for any 1970's motors anyway!:D:D

It has an original red irish number plate, which is pretty rare, lets face it!

    Perhaps we need a - "Today I saw a 1980-87 Potential Classic" thread! :D

I have a nice few pre '87 pics but there's nowhere really to post them.
