    Found the answer here:

    http://www.modmyiphone.com/forums/showthread.php?p=33107

I have tried this myself and it works. Modified .plist file attached to save you a bit of time. I have added an extra line so it shows mobile numbers and '01' numbers correctly.

Remove the .txt extension from the file before uploading to your iPhone (file should be called "ABPhoneFormats.plist".
All of your phone book entries need to be stored in +353 format for the name to show up on incoming SMS without having to open the sms.

    Hope this helps.

Dan, the file I attached is ready to be uploaded to the phone. I added another two lines to make 01 and 08x numbers display correctly. Working fine here for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

but in the ie text it displays 08 numbers perfect. Doesnt matter they both work.
if you search for ie in the text for thats the way its ment to be for Ireland. Add 01 number if you be just not everyone is from Dub

anyone have an idea what customs would cost on an iphone? would it be the standard rate of tax at 21% or what?
Is it true that not everything gets checked by customs?

For those who’ve unlocked and have a non-functioning Voicemail button, here’s how to fix it:
    1. First, take note of what your voicemail number is with your current provider (for example, in Ireland the Meteor voicemail number is 171).
    2. Click the phone button in your iPhone.
    3. Click the keypad tab.
    4. Type the following code:
    *5005*86*xxx#
Where xxx is your voicemail number, using the Spain Vodafone example, you would be typing *5005*86*171#
    5. Hit call.
    6. Give it a bit, and the code will be set.
    7. Hit the voicemail button, and it will now call your voicemail.

    ENJOY!!!

So ya'll wanna good tutorial?? Here we go, i"ve unlocked 46 iPhones since Monday using this method. this is for Windows users Only!! I'll do a MAC one later.

    1. Download iTunes Ver 7.3.0.5 from Here
    2. Download One Click Activation Tool from Here
    3. Download ibricker Ver 0.8 from Here
    4. Download anySIM.pxl from Here
    5. Download lockdownd from Here
    6. Download PACAY from Here

Those are all the files you need, now lets get started.

    7. Install iTunes 7.3.0.5 (Remove previous version if on computer)
    8. Run Once Click Activation Tool
    9. Plug iPhone into computer via docking station.
    10. Start iTunes and set up the iPhone.
    11. In iTunes, Click on RESTORE, it will then pop up saying restore and update, click ok
    12. Let the iPhone restore and the set it up in iTunes again.
    13. Unzip ibrickr to a folder and run ibrickr.exe
    14. Follow the onscreen instructions to jailbreak your iPhone.
    15. When you get to the screen that says ringtones/sounds/applications/files, click on files
    16. In the iPhone on the right, click on the folder "usr" then click "libexec"
    17. Upload lockdownd to this folder using the upload button
    18. Go back to the main ibrickr screen and click Applications
    19. Follow the on-screen instructions and install .pxl manager on the iphone.
    20. You will have to restart twice during this. Then you will have a screen with browse applications/upload .pxl file etc.
    21. Click upload .pxl file and upload the anySIM.pxl you downloaded earlier.
    22. The iPhone will now soft restart and you will have anySIM on the springboard.
    23. Go to settings->general->Auto-Lock and set it to never.
    24. Click on the anySIM app, slide to unlock and accept the terms.
    25. This will take about 12-15 minutes to complete, when its finished you will get an error message about minicom.
    26. Ignore this, turn the iPhone off and insert your sim card.
    27. Restart the iPhone and its completly unlocked.
    28. Start up ibrickr again and go to applications again, in the iPhone on the right there will be anySIM with a red dash beside it, click on this to remove anysim form the iPhone because if you run anySIM twice, you will brick the iPhone and have to do a virgin restore.
    29. Extract the PACAY folder to your desktop, click the .bat file that says CLICK HERE. Press enter and let it do the rest. It will ask you to turn the iPhone off when done and then start it again. this program unlocks youtube to work.

That is how you unlock the apple iPhone. If you skip ANY of them steps, it will not work. If your iPhone is already version 1.02 and you skip the itunes restore in step 11, IT WILL NOT WORK!!! This whole process will take you AT LEAST 1 hour to complete!!

If anyone has any questions, dont hesitate to ask!!!

The part quoted above would serve well as a sticky on page one maybe.

    Cheerio

does anyone know if you can buy the i-phone in america without singing onto a network, and also if you bring the phone back to Ireland will it work?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,208 ✭✭✭✭aidan_walsh

All US iPhones are SIM locked to AT&T by default.

YES! When you buy an iphone you don't sign any contract or anything. They expect you to bring it home and "activate" it by syncing with itunes and then creating an at&t account. However there are very easy ways to get around this actiavation process(and freely) and then unlock the iphone to whatever network you want. Unlocking is the complicated bit,
    The simplest way to unlock is by paying 39euro to a paid site like this and they will give you the necessary software. Or you can go the free way which is way more complicated and riskier. Anyway the following link sums the whole process up nicely;
    http://unlockthatiphone.com/activate.php

My brother is in NY this week and will be buying an iphone from the apple store and bringing it home to ireland and then unlcoking it to vodafone using the above method.

I've finished unlocking one tonight using the free methods. Works fine, no worries just follow the steps and give it time. It might be useful to update the steps with the appropriate timings of each step.

    Cheers

Is €520 a good deal from 'unlockthatiphone'. How long does it take? Is it cheaper to buy one from US and ship it over?

Do you know of a step by step tutorial (as good as the one posted by unlockthatiphon) for unlocking using a mac?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

It would only take a few days, I collected mine. It would almost work out the same with customs etc and if you bought unlocking from them, they use iphonesimfree software.

Fixed the link. Also, when you download the anySIM-1.01.pxl file it will download as a .zip file, just rename the extension to .pxl.
