Prototype Caterham,;) I don't know tbh I'll check the catalogue as soon as I can find it. I bought a nice 56 S1 Bentley, a Ford Granada GXL and a few others that I don't want to admit to right now..............:)

    lunchtime today, in Athenry........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

The wipers were the wrong way around for a LHD. Was that normal in older cars?

I forgot that when I'm on the Information Super Highway that some people are still on the Backroads!
I'm on wireless broadband at home and its slow compared to my office connection but all the photos load fairly quickly for me, I suppose if you look at the quality of the photos of the Rolls compared to the ones taken above then you can tell why they are bigger files!! But worth it in my humble opinion!!

Still I won't load more than 5 at a time in future!!!!

That out of the way do you know the names of the Rolls?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I exgaggerate its only 5 mb! The pix are great quailty (whats your camera?)

The grey/blue car above is a 20/30 Wraith I think.

    Mike.

My camera is a Samsung Digimax V800 which has an 8.1 Megapixel ability and with a 1 Gb memory card can hold either 242 pictures at 8.1 Megapixel setting or 53 Minutes of video with sound or a combination of both!!
I bought it last year (before the Hungarian Grand Prix) in Dixons and it cost €299 then!
Thanks for naming one of the Rolls, does anyone else have any ideas for the rest of them!

Wrong grill on the 2000E I'd say, shouldn't be a FORD logo on both the grill and bonnet I'm sure!

Naming Rolls Royces and Bentley is not always easy because there are so many different coach styles, builders and specifcations. Most of the cars are bespoke and have been handbuilt to the various (wealthy!!) owner's specifications and spec.

1st step is to identify the chassis/platform which is the easy bit, because there were generally only two or three chassis variations in production alongside each other. You had for example the 20 hp (which was considered the Baby Rolls, and which could be identified by the horizontal slats along the Radiators, the 20/25 hp and the Phantom 1. These were then handed over to the coachbuilder that the client wished to use (Park Ward, Mulliner, Hooper, Gurney), and they would offer a different range of body styles: saloon, limousine, doctor's coupe, sports saloon, shooting brake, landaulette, sedanca de ville..... and that's usually the tricky bit because a lot of these models would be once off's or built in only a handfull of cases.

So to come back to your list of cars, you have identified the first correctly as a Silver Shadow S1, the next one I'm not 100% sure about, either 20/25 hp or 25/30 hp Saloon or Sports Saloon, or possibly a Phantom II. Then you have three 20 hp's, identifyable by the horizontal slats in the grille, the next two cars are the "40/50 hp" or better known as Silver Ghosts. The next one, the grey saloon, is a Silver Cloud I, The Green car is a 20/25 hp or 25/30 hp followed by another 20 hp (horizontal slats in the grille).
The silver over burgundy car is a Silver Cloud II, followed by a Silver Spur, and then a Silver Shadow S2. Then a Bentley R-type, and finally a Hooper bodied Wraith.
