    Hi Grace,

IT sounds like you've already got quite a bit of musical experience and probably know how to read music so I'd definitely recommend private lessons!

Have a look at Cairde na Cruite: they have a harp hire scheme to help you get started: http://www.cairdenacruite.com/

For lessons, you have a couple of options:
    1. Waltons in Georges st - however, they are rather inflexible and on the pricey side, which is why I didn't go with them myself.
    2. Private lessons - have a look at this website: http://www.learnmusic.info They have a list of private teachers for all instruments nationwide. I found my harp teacher after months of asking around and she came recommended by the harp teacher in the RIAM (you can probably forget about the RIAM unless you're an awful lot younger than you sound! 8-12yrs old might be good.)
    3. Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann sometimes offer harp lessons depending on where you're located but this would only be for Irish trad music and follows the school year (so you'd have to start in September)

Good luck with learning the harp! It is a gorgeous instrument...
And no, lessons shouldn't be very expensive compared to good quality music lessons on any other instrument.
If you could find a group or organisation to go with it might be cheaper but I can't think of any (apart from Comhaltas) and I'd really recommend private lessons.

    Hi Pyr0

I'mstill teaching in Dame Court (City Centre). I teach most popular styles and have taught and continue to teach many people off these very boards.

Here's an updated version of my original post:

Hi all. I am a guitar teacher of six years and have to date taught over 200 people in that time. Loads of boards people on the books and plenty of references here, just search for Thomas Brunkard.

Instrument(s) And Styles - Guitar - Rock, Blues, Metal, Folk, Reggae, Soul, Funk
    Experience - 8 years teaching
Location - Dame Court Dublin 2
Lesson Duration - 40 minutes- One hour - Lessons are by topic module and times vary
Cost Per Lesson - €30 per lesson, €100 for four consecutive lessons. Student and Unemployed discounts.

My curriculumn is highly successful and relatively fast at imparting full fret board knowledge quickly. From there I work towards using that knowledge to have you playing, composing, improvising and mastering the styles you want to learn.

    - Full fretboard knowledge
    - Theory taught quickly painlessly with emphasis on practical application
    - Beginners - chords and strum patterns become songs and recognisable pieces fast.
    - Techniques both basic, advanced and obtruse looked at
    - Live guitar - how to use your pedals, set up your amp, buy the right gear
    - How to look after your guitar
    - Recording techniques for guitar- make your arrangements stand out
    - Learn the fundementals of different styles to help you become a truly original player.

Graded Electric Guitar Examinations can now be arranged.

Cost Per Lesson - €30 per lesson

€30 per lesson? thats a bit much dont you think? the average ive seen for a 30min lesson is €15 so double that for an extra 10 mins thats not worth the money. id be mad if i paid that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭Thomas from Presence

Sorry Kate that should read €30 per hour (copied from an old post and edited badly) which is even then artificially higher to encourage paying for four lessons. The rate is slightly cheaper than most other professional teachers as opposed to broke students chancing their arm! ;-)

That and the unwaged and students get a further discount.

Location: Dublin (preferably within easy reach of D9 area)
    Style: Jazz
    Level: Intermediate/Advanced

    Hi,

I'm a enthusiastic guitar player interested in a wide range of styles. I'm keen to develop my knowledge of music theory and its application though the medium of jazz. I've been playing guitar for quite a few years, so I'm reasonably proficient. Also, I already have a good background in theory, having studied piano to grade 8.

I'm seeking an experienced teacher - preferably with a strong jazz background - who has a deep understanding of theory, harmony, improvisation etc..

If anyone is offering lessons, or could even point me in the right direction it'd be greatly appreciated - I'm new to the city, and haven't a clue where all the jazz cats  hang out..

    Thanks,
    Brian.

    Hey!

I'm a music student, south dublin based in the rathmines area looking to give some lessons in piano or voice - preferably at a beginners or intermediate standard. As I would prefer not to do grades, Lessons would be centred around the student's own taste - i.e., the songs and tunes they want to be able to play/sing. I'll be able to help people learn to sight read/sing and to get a good grounding in musical theory, and to play by ear. I can take groups for singing lessons (if, for example, you're singing with a group for your leaving cert and need some extra help). I'd be willing to do hour to half an hour long lessons, depending on the student's requirements at twelve euro per half hour. All ages catered for, absoloutly NO experience necessary. ^_^

My own experience is varied. I have a grade eight in piano from the Royal Irish Academy, and a Silver medal in singing also from the Royal Irish Academy. In addition to that, I've played the lead in two different musicals, with solos in various others. I gig regularly in Dublin, doing mostly acoustic regina spektor/dresden dolls style music, and released an e.p. two months ago. I was on tour this summer with a band I'm in, and I also have experience with teaching and performing choral music, and also some experience in teaching solo singers (the latter in relation to upcoming Junior and Leaving cert exams). I'm a student of music in trinity, so I'm constantly learning and improving my own techniques. I have worked in choral, classical, traditional and other more popular genres.

PM me if you're interested. ^_^

Hey, Anyone know where I can get rudimental drum lessons for the marching snare?

  • Registered Users Posts: 244 ✭✭Bagheera

    Hi there

I'm looking for some sort of a drumming circle in North County Dublin or South Louth. I have a djembe but I haven't actually played in about 18 months and I'm keen to get back into it. I'd appreciate any info.

    Hi all,

I'm a music student in Trinity and have all my piano and theory grades completed from the RIAM and ABRSM respectively. I'm based in the Dublin 15 area and am happy to teach piano/theory/J. Cert/L. Cert music to anybody. I work in an informal and relaxed style and am very friendly. If you don't want to pursue grades, we can learn songs or styles that you choose. You choose the music and I teach it! I have an excellent quality upright Kawai K5 piano in my house, so if possible lessons should take place there. I've been teaching piano for the last year, taking students through grades, while others just for the fun of it. Currently I charge:

€20 - half an hour of piano
€40 - one hour of piano OR half an hour of piano half an hour of theory.

However, if pricing is a problem, we can discuss it. It's no problem

Hoping to hear from you soon.

    Ciarán (19).

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for guitar lessons in the Carlow area. I would be willing to travel within say a 20 mile radius.

I had some lessons about 15 years ago but never stuck at it and now regret it. I am a complete beginner as any of the stuff i picked up back then has been lost.

I like all kinds of music from the Wolfe Tones to Led Zepplin and everything in between. My favourite guitariest are Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. I also like modern music like the White Stripes, Coldplay etc. That's the kind of music i would love to be able to play.

    Please help!! :D
