Well Bale is gone to Spurs for 10 million, which is huge money for an unproven player imo. Maybe United did a deal with Spurs saying we wont sign Bale if ye let us have Berbatov! :D

I'm glad spurs signed and not Manu, he has proved nothing as a player apart from a few moments of brillance.

I thought that he was one of the three players ferguson has on list. I think another one could possibley be Frank Ribery of Marseille. We were stongly linked before, watch this space me thinks ;).I hope its not Carlos Tevez, to much like Rooney, we dont need him and dont think he is all that great either. I would have loved if we signed Macherano.

If he is successful and we try sign him in a few years time the fans will be moaning that we could have got him now for £5 million. He is a good player who will improve.

I say we should have got him...have not seen a lot of him but he is certainly meant to be a class act.

He may well turn out to be a good player but the left hand side of Uniteds defence doesnt need strenghening imo with Evra, Heinze, O'Shea, Silvestre and Evans all well able to play there. And I know there were theories that Fergie was going to groom him to play left midfield but I would much prefer to sign a natural winger than try convert a youngster who has never played in the premiership before let alone champions league.

Heinze has not impressed me this season , Sylvestre will always let you down when the pressure is on and O Shea has not impressed at Left Back since his first season. I wouldn;t be surprised to see Heinze and Sylvestre sold this summer. That would leave Evra and Evans, Bale would have been well worth a punt at 5 million. he will fetch 3 times that in a few seasons .

I think Heinze improved the last couple of games, and with a good pre season behind him (no world cup to play) he will regain his form again. I agree about Silvestre and O'Shea to a certain extent but I still feel the 5-10 million could be better spent in different areas.

Evans will fetch three times that if he gets to play football, at United, his growth will be stunted, as he will always be second choice to Evra.
To be honest, I'd rather give Evans a chance than Bale, even if they both cost the same. Evans has played pretty well in left back for Northern Ireland.

    he's better at centre-half imo

I like Heinze, he always gives 100% but he is very slow to turn when an attacker puts the ball past him. I noticed it a few times in the FA cup Final. Maybe with a good rest and preseason he will regain his form but I fear his injury has had a lasting effect on him .

Yup those injuries can take from your sharpness, they're tough to recover from, especially trying to regain consistent top-level performances, we'll have to see...

Thats a possibity alright but I reckon hold on to him next year and if it doesnt work out then offload him next summer, hopefully by then we will have the wing and forward situation sorted so we will have cash to spend on the left back postion if needs be.

Yeah definitely, I wouldn't get rid of him, I love the guy too much!

He deserves to be kept for at least another year...

Anyone else wondering why the Hargreaves transfer hasnt been completed yet?
Seems to be taking awhile, i thought he was having a medical wednesday or thursday, I see he is out of the england squad for the Brazil and Estonia game too. No doubt he will be holding a Man U scarf over his head as soon as I post this! :)

hes not fit and still recovering from injury which may be hampering his medical and is the reason mclaren gave for his non-inclusion

Either that or United are waiting for Chelsea to make a counter bid.

He wsa supposed to do his medical on thursday , it is strange that there have been no announcement since then.

Its strange that the Hargreaves deal hant been done yet.

But what about Reo-Coker who has handed in a transfer request at West Ham. He would be a good signing and a lot cheaper than Hargreaves would be. I know he is unproven in Europe but i think he would be worht a shot.

People are really under-estimating Hargreaves, in terms of ability and experience.

He has played at Bayern Munich, has 4 league titles under his belt, a CL title under his belt, and was a European U-21 player of the year.

The guy has serious talent, and has proven it at the highest level.

Looks like Hargreaves will sign after this weekend (a bank holiday in england)

Wouldnt be too pushed with Reo Coker, he had one good season but really lost the run of himself this year. Id expect him to go to Everton or Newcastle maybe.

They are just building it up for more references to Berbatov. Now when they say another Berbatov to United story, they can put the possibility of a part exchange, and people might believe it more.

Hargreaves will play the Gattuso role. Reo-Coker is more similar to Carrick.

Reo-Coker is meant to be Villa Park bound, are UTD paying 20 million for Hargreaves?? if so Reo-Coker would seem good value at 8 million

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Reo-Coker has been pretty crap all season, 8 million would be a lot for him, and based on the previous season's performance.

I was hugey impressed with Reo Coker last year, he reminded me of a young Roy Keane in the days he was a box to box player. But he has been muck this year and it will be interesting to see if he can recreate the previous years form.

It looks like sylvestre is staying at United and that Gabby is on the move with Real the latest club to be linked to him. Even with his dodgy knee I would prefer to keep Heinze and sell sylvestre.

Agreed...Heinze has far more to offer potentially than Silvestre!!

Heinze wants to play, and needs to play to stay at the top of his game. If he goes, we can get money for him to improve the squad overall.

Silvestre is pretty solid, and doesn't need to play reguarly to be decent enough. As a left-back, he's not half bad to be honest. His best seasons for United were at LB. Also, he won't raise as much money as Heinze.

    Personally, I'd sell Heinze.

The Hargreaves deal is still not done despite him having passed his medical. It appears to be dragging on a bit, I wonder why?

Hargreaves / his agent are probably still looking over the contract.
