I've being saying all season that Giggs is well past it.

I think that's extremely harsh. Giggs has had some great games this season and has been an extremely important part of winning the title.

He IS too old to play week in, week out. And in games where he is making no impact (see FA cup final) we need to have young, hungry alternatives.

    Which we don't.

But I still think Giggs has more to give.

    Torres is WAY overrated.

Agreed. I'd rather a fit Saha tbh.

Anyway, not like we needed any confirmation, but Hargreaves is in Manchester for his medical according to SSN.

allot of Torres really. Indeed, most of the people who go on about him haven't seen much of him either.

But the few people I do know that have seen allot of him play reckon he will struggle to adapt in the premiership.

In regards to Saha, he's a lost cause. He has the ability but neither the temprement, determination or fitness. He is immensely unpopular in the changing room by all accounts and his perceived laziness in regards to proving himself is something he can f**k right off for.

Saying that, he'll still be at United next year because none of the potential suitors for him can afford his wages.

If Lyon come in with 8-10m he'll go. More importantly, if Fergie wants him out he will be sold. Bit don't forget when fit Saha was banging them in the early part of the season...the winner vs Benfica, the goal v Bolton at the Reebok and the goal v Chelsea spring to mind. So let's not write off his talent completely, he's a good player just prone to injury (and prone to faking recovery times too!)

The Gimps are ready to consider bids for United according to The Mirror. The paper reports: "Less than three years after Malcolm Glazer finally won his controversial takeover battle in a deal that cost £831million, United's future is up in the air again.

Boardroom figures are privately conceding a sale in the short-term is likely after the Glazers realised United was not the cash cow they believed it would be.

If they sell, there is bound to be a period of uncertainty just as manager Sir Alex Ferguson would be aiming to build on the Premiership triumph.

Financial sources in the City last night confirmed feelers have started going out from Old Trafford because the takeover was proving so costly.

Malcolm Glazer paid £790m, plus legal fees of £41.3m, to win his drawn-out fight for control of the world's biggest club.

But to do so he borrowed a staggering £559m from City institutions. Last year, a refinancing package, organised by merchant bank JP Morgan, only came after the amount owed to hedge funds had grown by another £71m, leaving a total debt of £660m.

JP Morgan's fees for that transaction came to £90m - the cost of three Wayne Rooneys - and the club now faces annual repayments of £62m. That burden is wiping out the bulk of United's profits.

Despite the capacity of Old Trafford increasing to 76,000, escalating player wages and the need to continually invest in the squad - the Glazers promised Ferguson £25m each year plus an extra £25m one-off for a star signing - account for a huge chunk of income.

Fans were outraged by ticket prices for next season going up 14 per cent and the cost of home cup ties rising.

The relationship between the club's management and the Florida-based owners is becoming more and more of an issue and with Glazer seriously ill after a stroke last year and having to put control of the business in the hands of his sons, it seems he is increasingly looking for a way out.

United chief executive David Gill was said to have been in a "really bad mood" before United's FA Cup Final defeat, preoccupied by affairs at the club.

One well-placed City source said: "What we're all hearing is United hasn't turned out to be what the Glazers thought it was. When they paid so much, they were convinced a lot of money was to be made.

"Buying United wasn't about owning a football club, but a business decision and from an investment point of view it's been little short of disastrous."

Would be delighted to see them go, obviously, but would we find a person, or group, with enough money to wipe the debt and continue to invest?

The 'funny' thing is, though, if the glazers are getting out because the cost of the take over means profits are low; they are freaking idiots. It was widely observed at the time that the cost of the loans and the interest repayments would be too high to turn a profit for the glazers.

It's the mirror, I would be sceptical of the article. I would imagine the Glaziers knew exactly what they were getting into. I assume the club could be floated again if it comes to that.

Rumours that United have made a move for Berbatov offereing Saha and cash in exchange.

    yeah, 29million plus saha.....

I like Berbatov, and i would like to see Saha sold or moved on somehow, but that deal would be crap. Far too much money when you add Saha's value into it. 29million inclusive of the value of saha would be at the high end imo, or 29 with Saha for Berbatov and Lennon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,529 ✭✭✭Im_No_Superman

29 million is far too high! 15+saha would be more reasonable. Man I would love it if we got Berbatov, he is top class!

That's just bull****, no way it's that high. That'd be like 40 million for a player. Not a chance.

I didn't see any figures but 29 million plus saha seems very high to me. Lennon has not impressed me of late, I rated him highly last year but I'm not so sure now.

I agee with you, there no way manu spend that on one player and to be honest i dont think he is worth that even. If there talking about that price, then we would prob have a chance of getting Eto'o or Villa for that.
"its the sun reporting it as well"

Berbatov is good, but im not sure if he's as good as everyone is making out to be. I would like to give him one more season. Manu could sign Benni McCarthy and Huntleaar for prob £20 mill easily. I still think Torres is perfect for Manu, He is good in the air, great touch, can hold the ball up well and has great pace.

Torres has the attributes, sure, but his scoring record is fairly crap for the money we'd be talking - and we should be going for a goal scorer, not another player that links well but doesn't finish the chances.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 911 ✭✭✭Little-Devil

I think we need striker with pase up front. I remember Andy Cole ( legend ) Dwight York, both had great pase up front. Berbatov isn't the quickest up front and i think thats what we need. I really think its going to be either Torres or Huntelaar who joins us next. The spanish season has 2 more weeks after this weekend, so i can't see any big transfers happening until its finished for big moves between england and spain to happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,606 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

i agree about the pace - but i think we are likely to see a front 3 a fair bit next season, and teh pace will be provided by Ronaldo and Rooney. Someone like Berbatov who has an eye for a pass and can hold the ball up (as well as finish) will fit in to that front 3 quite well imo.

However, i don't think we will sign Berbatov, and hopefully not at the price being thrown around.

Yeah there is no way it's 29million + Saha. We don't even have that much money to spend after getting Hargraves. It would be good if we could give them Saha + Richardson + 8 million + O'Shea if they are really being tight :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Well, I think we'll see. I think everybody is hoping for a big name striker to come in, and my preference would be for that to happen, and us to keep Saha, and sell Smith. What will happen though isn't known. I think we'll have to wait a bit, cause of the Spanish league not finishing yet. This makes things complicated though, as say if United's first choice is Eto and second choice is Tevez, then if we wait for Eto, Tevez could be gone. That said, he can only be gone to another English club, and I doubt he is going to sign for Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea before he considers the La Liga options. If he does stay in England, I think United have a great chance of getting him, only helped by him being friends with Heinze.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,606 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

when we were out celebrating the title win in London, Tevez was out with the lads too, apparently.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 603 ✭✭✭shatners basoon

Nah we all know he wants a Spanish speaking manager and to return to his flying buddy javier:p Again i think Tevez is too Rooney like for United and that you need a poacher or someone who leads the line more than another striker who plays deep.

You won't get Berbatov for less than 30 million from Spurs i'd say, especially considering what they sold Carrick for! Spurs would be stupid to sell at any price though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I think if United make a bid for Tevez, and it's up to him between us and Liverpool, he'll come to us.
I know he's similar to Rooney, but if I had to play with two Rooney's in the team, I could live with it :)

Well it goes without saying that you'd think he'd go to you, i'm well aware of your allegiances at this stage PHB!;)
However I'd be hopeful Rafa would speak some sexy Spanish to tempt him to the mersey:p
It could end up being like Chelsea and England though if United do sign him - where like minded players don't mix well. Thus personally I think buying Tevez could easily be a bad move by United with the two (Rooney and Tevez) getting in the way of each other so i'd probably welcome if he went to either club!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

    :)
I'd imagine the lure of premiership champions and likely to be challenging on all four fronts irrespective of whether or not he joins is something that appeals to players above sexy Spanish, although Rafa is quite the looker :)

If there was a direct choice between buying somebody like Eto or Tevez (what a dream world that would be), I'd rather Eto.

But if the choice isn't that good, like say sign somebody like Huntelaar who has similar attributes to Eto, but not as good, I'd rather we go for Tevez.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,529 ✭✭✭Im_No_Superman

I dont think Eto is an option he said he is staying put and there is alot of rumours that Ronaldinho will be off to Milan so there not going to sell the both of them. I have a feeling Tevez will end up in spain tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

I'm not sure Man U even need a top top striker costing over 20m...wiht the amount of chances created by other players any half-decent striker could bag 20+ goals at OT imo...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,006 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

I would do anything for Eto'o to come in. I absolutely love that guy. I think he would be more influential than Ronaldinho who is my favorite player in the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

I think Ronaldo should be snapped up, he may be fat but he can still stick the ball in from 7 yards! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,006 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Ronaldo at AC is still one of the best strikers in the world.

Well Bale is gone to Spurs for 10 million, which is huge money for an unproven player imo. Maybe United did a deal with Spurs saying we wont sign Bale if ye let us have Berbatov! :D
