You know what they say junkyard - you should never meet your heroes! :)
Thats for sure, I've bought many more "heroes" over the years and have been left disappointed most of the time I have to say.:(

Lads, I'm confused! I spotted this Land Rover Discovery with an old (pre '87) Kilkenny plate - VIP. I didn't think they were around that long.

PS - The tax disc said €45.

The real advantage is for the income tax when it is used as a company car, your BIK on the written down value of the donor vehicle, i.e. next to nothing.

There is a company in the UK which "remanufactures" Range Rovers and Discos onto you old chassis rails.

I see an old Mazda 323 (early 80's model) in the driveway of a house in Templeouge every day as I cycle to college. It's silver and is in fairly bad looking condition, I reckon it's been sitting there for the past 5+ years at this stage. It is this same type of model as this one:

They're fairly rare now on the roads (in fact, I actually can't remember the last time I saw one on the roads).

This was a 1997 model, 4.6 V8, it would pass anything except a petrol pump, 9 mpg on a good day and built like buckaroo, always waiting for something to fall off or blow up in your face, absolute f*cking rubbish, its no wonder the Brits no longer have a motor industry worth talking about.

Poor little Triumph Herald waiting to be rescued from House of Fraser (Dundrum). :)

needs a small tidy but man does it move! since i killed my 320i a couple of weeks ago, this baby was called into action as an everyday runner..... mind you, its difficult to save for repairs when driving a 3.5l around town, perhaps i should have bought a bike instead......

Is that an old M5? And if it is are you selling it?

I'd say from the filename it's an M535i and not an M5.

The M5 came out in 1985 and ran alongside the M535i for a while, until it more or less made the M535i obsolete.

The M535i had the 218bhp 3.5 litre M-tweaked lump that was also fitted to the M635i, whereas the M5 had the all new developped 3,5 litre 24 valve block with 286bhp, so it's a good bit more powerfull.

Thanks for that Paul I should have copped that too.....any Volvo 144's around by the way?

Yep, its the lesser bhp M535i and not an M5. Personally, I think the M535i is a much better option considering breakers yards a filling up with replacement m30 engines, where as an M5 engine would be a whole different matter. The body and interior is the same, it handles great and costs range between €500-€2500 against €10 - €15k. Should you want, alpina do a nice suspension upgrade and Turbo Charging Dynamics in the US do a range of Turbo kits for RHD starting from $3800, thats 380bhp.

Thats 100bhp more than an M5 for less cash. Still though, 218bhp is more than enough to get you in trouble and with 229lbs of torque against the M5s 251lbs, the M5 is only .7sec faster to 60mph (cos kph still dont exist in my world) All in all, the m30 is a hardy lump thats well capable of greater bhp and is cheaper to maintain than the M5's, and if you break it, you just buy another :D

If you really wanted an M5, check this out....
