I really have too much time on my hands :)
Mods: This subject doesn't bother me, so don't move it to Consumer Issues please!

Right to I bought a packet of Tayto Ripples (cheese n onion) yesterday. Bit into the first crisp and noticed they were soft, the gone off taste. Checked the best before, no problems there. Checked the bottom of the bah and the bottom seal was broke, obviously a manuf. error, wasn't slit, the seal just wasnt right. Anyway, I ate the crisps, but then a few of the lads in the class said I sould write to Tayto for the craic. So I did, and included the defective pack. Couldn't include the crisps because they wer ein my belly. Basicly explained what happened, and that as a local Tayto customer I was disappointed and would be grateful if they could reimburse me with a fresh packet of Tayto :D

So, should I expect to hear anything from them? Will I see a box of crisps at my letterbox next week? :D

Bearing in mind I wrote moreso for the craic, and the fact that I had too much time on my hands. The letter I wrote was not rude, infact a little humourous if anything :D

I remember my sister doing this and getting a voucher for an 18 pack of Taytos.

I found a huge lump of salt in a bag of Perri a few years, sealed the bag up and posted it back to them. A few weeks later when I had forgotten about it, the Perri van drove up to my house to deliver 4 boxes of crisps. Huzzah! :) It can't hurt to try I guess.

I done the same with a bag of Chipsticks years ago
except I included the actual chipsticks :)

After about 2 month I got sent a voucher for a 6 pack.

Raging at the time cos I thought I'd be compensated with
a lifetime supply. I was only about 11 at the time!

I did that before with a different product, and I got a €5 voucher to spend on anything made by the company. Good times. :)

If you didn't send them anything it is unlikely you will get anything back. Might get a voucher for a free bag of crisps.

Years ago we bought some cakes that turned out to be manky in the middle. Complained and the bakery turned up the following day, took the bad cakes and left a load of various cakes.

Found a huge big globe of something in my crisp packet. They claimed it was just congealed crumbs once they got it. I got a fight when I touched it as it was huge . Anyway they wanted it sent to them. They sent me a voucher for Tesco for a €5. The thing is it took me so long to get in touch with them and cost of postage it cost me more than a €5 so I complained more and got €50 the next week. The squeaky wheel gets the oil

So could you just open a pack of Tayo - let them go a bit stale and post it off with a well-worded letter saying they were stale when you opened them and expect a free box?

When I was a kid me and my sister used to send stuff back all the time to get free goods. Once we opened a packet of Viking crisps and lightly sprayed them with hairspray. We got my mam to write us a letter and about a week later a Peri man arrived to the house with a box full of crisps. As a kid thats the stuff dreams are made of...

Another time we left after eights on the raditor so they melt all out of shape then put them back in the box, sat back and waited for willy wonka to arrive...

i bought a box of hunky dorys at christmas last year. they were suppose to be an assortment of flavours. when i opened them 18 of the 24 packets were cheese and onion. i called them and they sent me two boxes of crisps (minus the cheese and onion flavour flavour).

I got onto mars before about a minipack of bars that the seals were broken on, so loads of the bars were loose within the outer pack - I think they sent about €7 in vouchers.
Also got onto them about ice cream celebrations because a few of them within the pack were only full of air - still sealed and all - also got about €7 in vouchers.:D

I did something similar when I was about 10 and got a postal order for £2 off Tayto. So with inflation and the Celtic Tiger economy taken into account, they'll be buying you a new house.

I found a stone in a pot of jam years ago, and wrote to the manufacturers to complain, and posted them the stone.

Their bizarre response was to post me two postal orders in the one envelope...one for £2.00 and one for £4.00.

That bought me many a fine pot of jam.

I've sent back disfigured bars of chocolate to Cadburys several times, and gotten two 100g bars back.

Another time, when I was about 10, I wrote to Bic telling them that I really liked their pens. They thanked me by sending me a huge envelope full of all different pens! I did the same with Pentel, with the same result. I felt so cool!

It does help to complain, companies will happily give away a small replacement (18 packs of crisps would call **** all for tayto) instead of risking you bad mouthing them to friends/family/on boards.ie. It could lose them a lot more money!

Yeah but how many people would be bothered?

I had a split condom once.
I posted the baby to Durex and they sent me a free 3 Pack and a very trendy children's allowance book cover.
There's service you don't see every day.

These companies owe us since they take our money. I say try and screw them over if you can. They revolve around us, if we choose not to buy their product, they die
