Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Triple rad at the back for the NB n gfx(sli r crossfire) n a double rad on top for the cpu...

Thats gonna be a solid piece of oak on top with 3/5mm UV blue perspex running through it, there will also be 2x120mm blowholes cut out of it.

N 2 windows in the side pannel... Will be doing more sketchs ltr to give a better idea..

I hate soldering... but practise makes perfect. The box itself will be modded to match the case, it wont be some big lump of white plastic just sitting there

Anyways, back to shopping for more WC gear n burning my fingers :p

A pure silver G5 ? Fúck me, how much coke have you been dealing lately to afford to drop so much money on a water block!

Hehe, I wanted it, but he got there first! Class block though! ;)

Pure silver indeed.. when im finished with it i'll melt it down n make rings out of it ;-)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

No offence, but like, whats the point though ?

AFAIR, you'll drop like 1 degree ? For over 5 times the price of a normal decent block like an Apogee or similar ?

I guess this rig is about excess though, when you're using a triple rad for a CPU that would be grand on a single/double :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Boredom really.. Its a hobby, i fin work at about 12 every day so i need something to keep me entertained..

I paid just over twice what the apogee costs.. ;-p U gotta know where to look. I saw one go in the uk for about €75 last week, considering they cost well over €200 new it was a steal.. Its the bling bling factor. The double rad is being used for the cpu, the triple is for the rest.. Just need to get the rest of my WC gear so i can really get to work on this..

o and its only .8c drop... wow!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Installed the res's today, junction box needs a re-think as it wont fit where i wanted it after i install my HD cooler.. I'll stink of something..

Case top has changed as i aint got the tools to do what i want.. will upload a pic of my plan ltr, v similar to the sav row pcs..
    RES

Plan for case top, similar to this..

Me new monitor.. Can do its max res cause the onboard GFX on my dads dell wont do it

Oh right, 75 euro is a bit of a steal. Can't blame you for picking one up at that price!

    It looks great.
I presume it's just power it's outputting and not returning any RPM data?
Is there a voltage adjuster inside it for fan speed/power setting?

Yep, just the power output.. no RPM return.. no need for it.

Will try to get a switch in there. 12v to 7v.. maybe 5v. Depends on what the fans sound like @ 7v. Not sure what im gonna do for power goin in.. will either use a female molex or srtip a molex down n use 2 rca's..

Got my Waterblocks sorted, just need some cards to use em with ;-)

    PICT0111.jpg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

I was about to tear you apart for the waterblocks, then remembered that they're on there own loop. Nice thinking! Supposedly the new stasis blocks annihilate them for temps and resistance though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Just read up about those stasis blocks... Im more of a silence n looks man, this rig wont be massivly overclocked, i'll leave that for my next one(calculates when mortgage will be paid off ;-)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

The gains from a 30 degree graphics card compared to a 40 degree one aren't big anyway. Couple of MHz is nothing. Especially when the difference shouldn't even be anywhere near that big.

Good call with putting such restrictive blocks on their own loop. Almost had a heart attack thinking the storm would be on the same loop as them before I rememberd.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

    Double post, woops.

Gonna lap the Base, although Cathar recomends u dont this one has been used and seen better days, also gonna polish the top plate till its as shiny as a nerds eye after a day out with the local bullys....

    100_0815Small.jpg
Was meant to get two plexi tops for the pumps, never arrived so im looking into it.. Will need to mod the mounts on these as they are too wide for the case..
    They will look like this..
    ddc-plexi_top.jpg

Will post pics of lapping and polishing for anyone interested...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

Very nice. I'd like to see the G5 polished and lapped - very, very finely, as silver is (relatively) soft.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

    after lapping
    1000821small2fi.jpg
    before lapping
    100_0814Small.jpg
Pic aint the best, doesn't show how smooth it tis, as shane said, silver is very soft... aint possible to get it as mirror like as copper r similar.
Id write a guide but there's loads on the net already... If anyone wants a kit pm me n i'll make one up for ye..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Spent the past hour polish the mounting plate, the face side was badly scratched and although it was mirror reflective i didn't like it... Flipped the plate over n got sanding on the rough side... Lots of sanding followed by a couple of t-cuts and the difference is huge.. Its hard to tell from the photos tho..

you should get it modded to have two outlet barbs. It was an optional extra on the original. Gives a minor performance boost but makes SLI very neat cos one gpu wont be dumping heat on the second

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

    U talking about this..NV78_prepsli_800w.jpg

Id been thinking about modding it myself but i'd be weary of cracking the plexi in the process..

I was talking about the G5, but now i've checked it out it wasnt an optional extra. It was on the 2nd and 3rd versions but dropped for the storm 4 & 5

The GFX etc are on a seperate loop... The storm is on its own loop..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 792 ✭✭✭Dman_15

    cool.

Your still going to have to do something to make them fit though.

I got a conversion kit from DD. Word of warning, the plugs in the pic RUST. Only noticed there now when i opened the case to take that pic. That was a bit of an oversight from DD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Well they'll be on a 3/8" loop so will be more flexible than the 1/2" n the asus mobo's have allot more space between the PCIe slots so im just gonna use something similar to this
    500180.jpg
    to link them...

I am thinking of doing a bit of water cooling myself.........

Where did you buy all the parts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

    www.alphacool.de

for somewhere closer to home try www.hitide.ie prob better if its ur first time trying watercooling..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

www.over-clock.com have the best range that i've seen. UK shop, reasonable shipping.

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

Thanks, what are those alphacool blocks like?? They have great prices, they would probably be a lot better than a homemade block.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Depend on what block and what else u'll be using.. Alphacool are V good. Waiting on my second order from them, good prices and they're usually quick at shipping. Huge range of gear to choose from, always find something else i want after i order from them..

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

What do you think of the kits they do??

They are 1/4" and 3/8" so they wouldnt be the best

Would i be better off buying parts seperately and make a custom kit

What pump would you recommend from them?? and is inline or submersible better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Best start a new thread for this... If u ask me u should head on over to the for sale thread n get this Swiftech 'Extreme Duty' CPU watercooling kit (Double Rad, STORM block)http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054884858 of Vevex... Possibly the best kit u can get imo.. Actually the best kit u could have got, they stopped making that block. Was costing them too much. Possibly the best performing kit u could get.

Anyways back to my project, been working on my new workshop all day.. will stick up some picks tomorrow. Trying to get power to it at the mo(tis at the end of the garden)
