Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Really?? Any chance of scanning or taking a picture of that flyer and posting it.

It actually sort of jives with a theory I have that UPC are getting ready to rebrand and have a big rollout and ad campaign to launch the new company.

I'm sorry bk, but I must have thrown it away, searched around, couldn't find it :(

But I remember well, it saying "We aim to have whole Dublin connected until the end of the December"

yeah but the only thing is then she will expext me to pay for it ,(and i dont have a job at the moment).and she is willing to pay for it,its justshe claims to be too busy to order it.(we are paying the same amount atm for line rental and or 60 hours plan from eircom, which is dialup by the way.

Get off your a** and get a job!

Actually I think they are working hard on it, and many many people who didn't have it before are getting connected. And they also did works on my street too.

I would Love NTL but I cant get it, I live in Phibsboro, they seem to be a mad bunch of eggs, told us it will take years to get NTL digital - we had it installed the next month, they wouldn't install in for my neighbour untill he threatened to cut all the NTL cables running across his house - he got it installed the next week,

hey Am i allowed to Order on her behalf?that would be so much easier.Amby666,we dont make many phonecalls from our landlines so iwe are getting a cheap pay as you go phone so that we can recieve calls.

I want to get a jod but there is nowhere i want to work!

Well technically no, but people do it all the time, I ordered it for my sister, no problem. Just don't let on anything.
Amby666,we dont make many phonecalls from our landlines so iwe are getting a cheap pay as you go phone so that we can recieve calls.

But VoIP might be cheaper, get rid of the Eircom phone line (safe €24 per month line rental) and sign up for VoIP, for just €10 a month you get 300 minutes of free calls.
I want to get a jod but there is nowhere i want to work!

Your young, work is just a way to get money to buy and do more fun things. It will also help with future job applications when you leave school/college.

One of the jobs I had in school was a shelf packer in Roches Stores, it wasn't anything amazing, but it was actually quiet good fun, with a good social atmosphere and a few bob to spend in the pub :)

Thats a typical NTL story! you need to almost call them on a weekly basis as areas are coming live the whole time ! ie. Tyrellstown was a big no last week and now its live! D15 had a very poor service but no its A1 ! they are relaying coax all over the place and improving signal strength!

THE ARE PLANNING BROADBAND DOMINATION !!! ROLL ON 10 mb :D:D:D

MAGNET BE WARNED YOUR €240 for 24mb will look ridiculous :p even with Xbox subscription

So far CyberGhost is the only person who has said that a flyer like that exists. I'd love it to be true, but no one else has posted anything about flyers promising broadband for all of dublin by the new year.

Seems too good to be true...:(

Has anyone else seen flyers like the ones CyberGhost describes?

A friend of mine just called me. He was told about 2 months ago that NTL wouldn't be available in his area (citywest, right by the red cow). He got a letter saying it is. Problem is he just got BT installed. I didn't ask him if it mentioned all of Dublin but his area is mainly his complex and SDS so if they'll update that they must be doing alot.

No, but I rang them up in November and they said I might have bb in "Jan/Feb", and that was without asking which road I live on. I'd say end of December was a target for them at one stage but it has slipped. But only a little.

Just rang NTL about broadband for Clondalkin, and the second quarter of next year was the time given to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭BigMoose

I asked them about my area the other day (Deans Grange, down Pottery Road) and they had no idea. Said I'm on a bit of one way cable. However someone is digging up Pottery Road with a cable sized trench at the moment, so I live in hope!! They said they'd note down on my account that I'm interested in BB but I dont expect to see it any time soon.

Don't give up buddy, if the area beside you is enabled that you will soon ! once they relay the cables ect !! One way switch are POOH as the DLs are fine but you get no UL's :p

You seem to have got a few steps further than me there. Whenever I call asking about Clondalkin (Hazelwood) I get told "sometime in the future"... so frustrating.

I'm in cherrywood park, just gave my address and thats what the guy told me.

Hrmmmm.... I'm up by loughlinstown hospital and I was told I can get it, it's ordered and all. Could they have been wrong ? They laid the cables here about 10 years ago, no work has been done on them since. We were never able to get it until recently.

Please god let it have just been a case of flipping a switch at the exchange!

They never did flyers in my area, just a little bit written on the side of the bill. Only noticed it while rooting thru a pile of bills.

I am just off the phone to them after seeing one of the posters mention he was in Cabinteely. I am near there just off the Cloonkeen road. I was told that they have just spent a stack of cash upgrading and I should be able to get connected March / April.

However, note, NTL:Ireland is no longer part of NTL (soon to be Virgin), it is now owned by Liberty Global, who also own Chorus and will be soon merging the two companies and renaming them UPC Ireland. So you can't look at the UK anymore, we won't necessarily get the same speeds or prices as the UK anymore.

However there are strong rumours that UPC will be giving us 10m in January anyway.

this is a cause for concern, there is no guarantee that UPC will have the commitment to faster speeds that NTL did. cant help feeling that this upgrade to 10mb will be the last we see of NTL as we know it

Not really. UPC didn't buy NTL so they could let it rot. They see market potential and know they will have to compete. Remember, when a company buys another one, they don't replace all the staff, just the most senior. I would imagine all the NTL product managers will be the same people.

If you look at what UPC offers in other coutries across Europe, you will see that they seem to be a very progressive company who offer some of the best speeds in each country, including 24mb/s BB is some countries.

Liberty have clearly stated that they are all about offering best of class triple play services. They rightfully see a lot of value in this sort of market.

yup 24mb in France and 20mb in Holland ! there seems to be three reasonable packages in most countries and 1 extreeme! ;-)

    January

Well in the past they have always passed on the price reductions to their existing customers, so I would assume that they will continue.

check this out, it looks like in england if you are stuck on 1mb or 2mb you cant upgrade until late 2006 ..ahhh. you only get the upgrade if you are 3mb

    http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=298201&page=16&pp=25

is it worth switching from 2mb to 3mb now to ensure a seamless upgrade?

NTL Ireland is no longer owned by NTL so any parallels with NTL UK are surely irrelevant now and we have to wait and see what products the new owners will offer when they have their act together.

True, however NTL Ireland could have the same upgrades in mind. If you are worried about it, upgrade now. Otherwise wait and see.
